Bought/Thought for 1/23/08

You can't just look at where it ranks when it comes to sales.

Fair enough...I'll rephrase...It amazes me that Punisher Max doesn't rank in the top 50 comics on a continuous basis.....it also amazes me that Fraction's spoof of Frank continuously outranks the Max version....

...anyone know why Photojones was banned?

Poo, I totally forgot.

Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters #5
...Did we just get insect rape?

Look, you all know I don't mind a little bugfckin' once in a while, but to say that this current mini has jumped all over the place would be putting it lightly indeed. With a plot that's criminally slow and already too many characters to feel any attachment to, did we really need to take the time to do...well, this?

Art is still incredible, though.

I'm more bummed that they brought Miss America Back, made her kinda awesome, then killed her for no reason. Sure, she may be back by the end of the mini, but, kinda pointless.

I was sad to see Miss America go, too. She was one of the competent people on the team, along with Sam, Doll Man, Ray, Andre, and Black Condor. Now the scales tilt slightly more in favor of the ****-ups. :(

Wow! I've been slowly catching up on reading a stack of DC comics that I haven't gotten to for quite a few months, and after reading the first five issues of Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters, I was blown away.

I think integrating Frank back into the MU is what has so many people, myself included, reading.Unfortunately, this means involving PWJ in so many events, the first year alone saw the CW,Initiative and WWH banners across the cover most of the time.Even though there are 15 issues out,it really feels like this book has yet to get under way.

Plus the whole "over the top comic booky" factor that you don't really get in the MAX book.

In regards to PJ,I'm assuming the mods finally bit him in the ass.He really made it a thing to constantly take jabs at the mods and how they run things here.

First series or the current one?The Acuna mini was really good.

Both. I got the original last year when after the fourth issue, everyone reading it was bragging on how good it was. It was a no-brainer to buy the next series. In fact, I'm liking the new series even more than the original. I even think it's better than The Others.

I am kind of tired of all the new team books taking the same formula of having each issue be narrated by a different character or focusing on the origin of an individual character.

BTW, I read the latest issue of Robin, and while I'm mildly interested in whether the real Spoiler returns, the writing is just as bad as ever before and I don't think I'll pick up the following issue. The Ghul storyline was such a friggin' disappointment, the best thing coming out of Batman right now is Gotham Underground.

The latest issue of Teen Titans has made me decide to drop it, too. I'll look more forward to Titans, whenever that's due out. The Titans East Special was one of the best Titans books I've read in quite a while. (Plus, I cannot stand how all the different books that Robin appears in all have him doing different things without really acknowledging the other. And, he's sometimes drawn to appear as old as Nightwing.)

I dropped Teen Titans with the last issue, too. McKeever got an arc to impress me and, while it started off pretty strong and had a few interesting moments scattered throughout, it just wasn't enough to keep my interest. Hint to any future writers who tackle the Titans: ditch the dead weight from the roster, dial the angst back a little, and make things fun again.

Can't say I agree with the complaint about Robin being drawn older, though. He's 17 now. Most 17-year-olds look just about as mature as a 20-something. Robin should at least be consistently taller, like around Dick's height. I've seen people draw him barely coming up to Batman's upper torso. Barring some massive growth spurt, Tim Drake ought to be about as tall now as he's gonna be.
