Bought/Thought for January 5th, 2011 - SPOILERS

So. Charnel's world pops up, DH2 shows up in Captain Britain. DH1 shows of in S.W.O.R.D... Gosh darnit Marvel quit teaseing us and bring them back for real. Simon Furman should be doing something better than writing those terrible Transformer movie tie-ins.

You forget the Death's Head robots that managed to have dreadlocks for hair that the Red King utilized in PLANET HULK, and naturally Dr. Necker, when Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning wrote NOVA, activated some Death's Head prototypes to fight off Skrulls. So, yes, they have been teasing you Death's Head fans for a while. :o

Avengers Prime brought everything together beautifully, easily the best thing I've read in years. It just flowed, definitely felt satisfied with what I got for what I paid which is rare.

I don't even count the Death's Head 3.0 robots. That story was pure c-tease and went nowhere fast.

I didn't read it because I didn't care for the price and I'm not a Big 3 fan like most. But I'm hearing nothing but good things from it and the art is nice. I may give it a shot at some point.

Oh, and welcome to the hype

Avengers Prime was very good. Bendis' better work for sure. The one thing that bugged the hell out of me was Steve and the elf chick. You've got to remember that due to the release schedule, this book takes place about 1 month after Cap Reborn. He was finally reunited with Sharon after months of being "dead" and falls for some elf girl? Seems really odd to me......

Chaos War: X-Men was good. It takes a similar format to Dead Avengers in that the dead heroes suddenly find themselves alive, puzzle out bits and pieces of what's going on, and then have to quickly deal with a crisis that emerges. Thunderbird also fills very much the same position as Captain Mar-Vell, rallying the confused heroes to action, while Esme of the Stepford Cuckoos takes the Dr. Druid role of naysaying ass. Still, the similarities are superficial and the issue definitely feels more like an X-Men story than an Avengers one. We get a nice mention of Destiny's diary, which I always thought should play more of a role in the X-Men's lives now that they've had it for a while. Nice fake-out with the flaming bird symbol in the sky, too. I was totally expecting Jean to put in an appearance, but I hear she's not really dead this time. The villain is one of Thunderbird's gods, presumably under Mikaboshi's influence, and only he can see the flaming bird, so I imagine it represents another (presumably free/helpful) god of his. Both cool and, given the nature of the event, quite appropriate to see Thunderbird's faith take a central role. Looking forward to next issue.

From what I remember Thunderbird was the loose canon of Giant Sized X-Men so I was surprised to see him take leadership duties over Banshee who has more experience. Issue reinforced my dislike of the Stepford Cuckoos but on the plus side Maddrox dupes!

Fair enough.

You expected Bendis to give a **** about what another writer did with a character? Even in said character's core title? Even for Bendis' "better work"? That's hilarious, in a sad kind of way.

The only writer whose continuity Bendis cares about is his own, and he even contradicts himself at times! He is, without a doubt, the worst writer Marvel has ever allowed to control their entire line of comics for at least 5+ years. John Bryne at his worst was never as bad. At least SPIDER-MAN CHAPTER ONE was almost immediately discounted from continuity. Can you say the same for Bendis work?

That really is odd, given that Claremont wrote Thunderbird's final hour as well as Banshee for a very long time (he is co-writer on that). Heck, Sean was mentor for GENERATION X into this century. Oh, well. I haven't read it.

I wouldn't mind if Banshee came back out of CHAOS WAR. His death was such a waste. Some people think his treatment of Baron Zemo was Brubaker's worst hour, but for me it was still DEADLY GENESIS and the utter waste of Sean, one of my Top 10 X-Men.

My Who Is Jake Ellis is on its way from HeavyInk (along with a couple of issues of Stumptown that I wasn't even aware had been published because my shop never orders indie stuff unless you specifically request it). Can't wait to get it.

I enjoyed it so I think most others will. I'm not usually into the more indie thing (outside of Marvel and DC that is) and it was a pleasant surprise for me.
