I saw the preview for the new Marvel animated movie coming out next week, Planet Hulk. Why can't Marvel chug out a little better product? There are such amazing advances in animation; yet, these cartoons continue to look like crap. The cover of the upcoming DVD looks great; which, is nothing like what's in the movie.

I really don't understand it. When I play the Marvel video games, the animation in that is so much better. Why can't they use the same company that makes the video game animation for these animated movies? (I know, this must be tons cheaper...but, I know I'll be slightly disappointed with this cartoon, simply because it does look cheap.)

They do: Spectacular Spider-Man.

Unfortunately, it looks like they don't realize it. :csad:

I really wish that Dan Slott could take over the writing duties for Amazing Spider-Man more frequently. This second part of his 4-part Mysterio tale is better than the other Gauntlet stories that came before; and, it just feels like he was meant to write Spidey tales. He knows the history of this comic, and brings that history into his writing.

I still can't take anything like this seriously. He knows and utilizes his history... as long as hit happened 20 or more years ago. That's kinda the Spidey slogan still isn't it?

I see a few people complaining that they didn't view New Avengers as a Siege tie-in. Sure, it's not blatant; but, still, Bendis gives us a very important side-story that's happening outside the big event fight sequence. You simply have to ask yourself, "What is happening to the other heroes while Norman tries to take out Asgard?"

We are learning through many of these comics that Loki is taking a big role in the Marvel Universe; and, where Norman was perceived as the one in control...especially in regards to The Hood...now, it's Loki calling the shots. This is a vast history, as the Avengers originally formed because of Loki...and, Loki knows if Norman is to be successful, the New Avengers cannot be allowed to save Thor and the Asgardian's butts. Thus, Loki has The Hood in his back pocket now...he sends Hood to use the Nord Stones to get these expendable C-list heroes to keep the Avengers preoccupied...and, Loki's plans are coming together nicely.

With Captain America showing up in both this and Siege 1, chances are that this is before Siege even begins. So it still isn't anything of a Siege tie-in. Your theory is nice, and accurate as far as the overall story of Dark Reign recently, but it doesn't help make this issue a Siege issue at all.

So I got caught up on Dark X-Men.

Much, much better than any comic featuring Nate Grey deserves to be.

And here's TSoB's step-mom and the love of my life... my wife...

Double awww. Way to make SHH a family affair.

With Adam Warlock turned into Magus...I wonder what is in the Caccoon that the Church of Truth have....have they explained that yet...did I just miss it?

I'm not sure if they have. Although I could be wrong. Maybe it is giving birth to Magus, which was how he cheated being killed by the Cosmic Cube, via time paradox (he can't be killed before he is actually born)? But who knows.

I actually own PLANET HULK (a local shop sells DVD's sometimes 2 weeks before the street date) and saw it on a big screen at the Paley Center in NEW YORK on 1/14, and I didn't think "PLANET HULK" looked "cheap" at all. The animation was done by Madhouse, and no, it's not of the same quality as "THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG", but it still looks excellent by made-for-video standards. The 2 disc has an episode of WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN on it and it is very easy to compare TV animation to PLANET HULK's.

Plus, the story is very faithful to the source material. I haven't done a long review yet on SHH (although I did review the event, and the film, at my Examiner link below), but I'd say it was their best animated disc since HULK VS.

To be fair, the animated films are done alongside Lion's Gate, and I don't think LG has ever used a budget higher than $2 million for even non DVD movies. :p

Personally, I wasn't thrilled with the look of MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 2. The colors were washed out and the models looked almost ugly. The first one looked much better. I also prefer sticking to 2D animation; part of why I haven't bothered watching any of IRON MAN ARMORED ADVENTURES is because TV budget CGI animation usually looks unimpressive and not as expressive. Even the MTV SPIDER-MAN show was great for the action, but if you wanted actual emotions from your models, well, it was hit or miss.

Yeah, it is a shame this hasn't been renewed immediately. For TV animation, it really was top notch, especially the action.

That show had great production/direction/writing. I liked the episodes where they cross-cut either the camcorder birthday wishes or the school play scenes with the action.

On top of that, doesn't Iron Man Armored Adventures needlessly make Tony Stark a high school kid?

The only good thing about the MTV Spider-Man was Spider-Man's look and his web swinging. Everything else was awful!

Everything about SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN is aces!

Faves (so far...haven't read everything) in bold.

Captain America Reborn - Man, Brubaker is one of my favorite comic writers, but this entire mini was crap, and this issue was no exception. Cap's return should've taken place in his monthly comic anyway.

Wildcats - might be dropping this. Gage's run was cool, but this issue didn't make any sense. Guess you have to read other Wildstorm books to know what's going on, which is stupid.

RASL -:up: The long wait between issues is the only downside to this book.

Green Lantern - Reeeeeeaaaaaaally ready for this Blackest Night dud event to be over.

Amazing Spider-Man #619

These first two issues really pay tribute to some of the classic gangster stories from the 80's, as Mysterio is setting up Spider-Man and trying to push him over the edge mentally. I love many of the old references, like to Jean DeWolff and Captain Stacy.
I think Kelly and Van Lente's issues of ASM were pretty awesome too, I so far think the Gaunlet is the best ASM has been in awhile, and I was initially hesitant about it.

As for the cops, I'm always kind of annoyed when they introduce a new police detective who's gonna be best friends with Spidey. It's like every new writers has this archetype in their stories, when they could just as easily use the same character. EVery buddy cop of Spidey has been a poor man's Jean DeWolff:csad:

Guardians of the Galaxy really gotta make up its mind whether people are dead or ain't dead.

This resurrection-a-week* ****'s getting ridiculous.

*I mean, it's a monthly comic!!

Wow, I almost want to read New Avengers if Bendis is treating Loki that well.

Yeah, Bendis has pretty much made Loki the real villain behind everything going on now. I think in Dark Avengers, he's been talking to Norman as if he was the Green Goblin.

I haven't read all my comics this week yet, but I think the funniest bit I've read this week has to be from New Avengers, where Spider-Man and Spider-Woman are doing recon.

Spider-Man: "Is your spider-sense tingling?!"
Spider-Woman: "What? Stop hitting on me!"

Er, isn't it the only animated DVD since Hulk vs.?

I agree, though, it was very good; my favourite of the animated releases.

Welcome to the uniquely awful writing style of Adam Beechen. :o

Beechen's writing style is that if you've read other books in the universe you're even more confused because he's totally ignored all of that ****.

Yeah. He sucks and I hate him. Or his comics, at least. Beechen himself may be a very nice man.

Captian America Reborn #6 of 6.Thankfully this mini-series is over anyway preety good issue but there is still that extended ending.****

Avengers:The Intitiave #32:My first issue and already i'm hooked awsome issue i've always liked these characters besides taskmaster here but this was just plain awsome justice's speech if you can call it that was insperational.*****

Thor #606:I loved this issue een though this is my first issue i wasn't confused at all so yep awsome issue.*****

Thank god i don't read his comics they sound awful.

Quick stuff!

Echo #19

Wow! Fantastic issue with plenty of action. One of my favorite characters dies; and, things have sure picked up. The only negative is having to wait a month for the next issue.

The Walking Dead #69

We don't get enough Zombie action in this title much of the time; but, this issue makes up for it, as the group must rescue some people in Washington DC. By issue's end, Rick and company have made it to the new community which promises them safety. From what I've seen by Kirkman in the past 69 issues, I don't hold out much hope.

X-Babies #4

There are some comics or events that hold so much excitement and anticipation, that the end result is ends up being more disappointing than it might actually be. (i.e. World War Hulk and Blackest Night) Then, there are the comics which I hold out zero hope for liking that surprise me so much, that I might hype them a bit more than an average reader might. That was the case with Parker's recent 1602, and it's the same way with X-Babies. I hate...HATE HATE HATE...the Mojoverse. So, when X-Babies was first announced as coming out with a 4-issue mini, I held off reading it for a good couple months. Surprisingly, this has been a pretty funny mini, and full of memories of those old Star comics from the early 90's. Big, BIG Kudos to Schigiel for making me like the X-Babies for the first time, EVER!

X-Men Forever #16

I'm serious, this might be turning out to be my favorite X-title. Talk about expecting zip from a comic, that's been the case of almost everything Claremont has released in the last 20 years. This title is just fun to read, and Claremont can do almost anything. IN this issue, we get bits and pieces from the other characters in this book; but, it mainly focuses on Nightcrawler, Rogue, and Mystique. Great ending, and I'm really dying to find out if Nightcrawler remains in his current condition....and, if Rogue does too. Don't you just get the feeling like Claremont is having as much fun writing this comic as we are reading it??!!?? How great it must be for him to get to play in the X-Universe and be able to do anything he wants with it.

Wolverine Origins #44

This issue wasn't that bad. Logan must break Ruby Thursday out of the Raft with the help of Cloak, and he runs into Skaar and Ares along the way.

Sword #21

Malia continues to spread fear and distrust about Dara, especially with the military and people of New York. This is the proverbial "fighter feels like giving up, but gets inspired by motivational speech" issue. Three issue to go, and the big, final battle starts next issue. This wasn't the best issue....and, as I mentioned, a bit cliched...and, the final act is feeling kind of drawn out...but, it's been a fun ride by The Luna Brothers, and I can't wait to see this final round.

Yeah i'm really digging X-Men Forever.

Ms. Marvel #49

In an attempt to harken back to Ms. Marvel's first series in the 70's, Brian Reed has Carol Danvers facing off against her greatest foe, Mystique, after a shape-changer has taken the mantle of Captain Marvel and killed members of the church Cap Marvel inspired. There really isn't much to this story...but, it all leads to next month's double-sized, final issue of this series.

Iron Man Vs. Whiplash #3

I'm not much into this issue, either. Marvel tries to get their readers into the new-look Whiplash that will be appearing in the Iron Man II movie; but, it does nothing for me. I like the original, and having this one appear in an off-shoot of Tony's armor design is just something we've seen way too much. Plus, having Tony stuck in some less-powerful armor and trying to survive has been done much too often, also.

Iron Man: I Am Iron Man! #1

Ok, this might be the biggest head scratcher of the year....and, we've only just started out. This 2 part mini is the official movie adaptation of the Iron Man movie. No, not the sequel, but the first movie!!! Ummmm ... isn't this comic a little late??? Haven't we all seen the movie by now??? OH, and just for sh#$s and giggles, they charge $3.99 for this. For some reason, I find this comic more insulting than the Captain America Rebirth debacle.

Marvel Adventures Spider-Man #59

Ok, three blah comics...thank god I save some of my favorite comics just for the event that I might read a bunch of crappy ones in a row. Tobin's MA Spidey is still my favorite Spidey comic being published today. In this issue, Spidey takes down the X-Men (kind of harkening back to that classic issue in Secret Wars) while we get more development into his relationship with Chat, more into the Torino crime family trying to take out Spidey, and more into the mystery of Gwen's belief she's dating Peter Parker. Next issue, the Torino family sends Bullseye to take down Spidey. Can't wait!!

Kick-Ass #8

The final issue to the end of Book One, where Kick-Ass and Hit Girl take out the mobsters who killed Big Daddy and layed the beatdown on Kick-Ass. The final issue might not be as good as the issues that came before it; but, the reader gets plenty of bloody, violent action...and, Hit Girl really steals the show in this comic. (I loved the "secret chemical compound" that Big Daddy gave Hit Girl, giving her the "strength of ten men." Turns out it's cocaine.) I liked it, and am even a bit surprised that Marvel didn't try charging $3.99 for it.
