Bought/ Thought July 5th, 2007

Not being able to handle a monthly is fine. These days, it's the norm. But not being able to handle two issues with the lead time a debut series (well...debut volume, in this case) affords you is pathetic.

Yeah, Marvel should have stepped in at that point.

Just curious, photojones2, after reading this last Carey arc, still think Jubilee is "more of an X-Man than everyone on his roster"? Because, y'know, he does have Iceman there, and Bobby's one of the original 5.

And no, don't mind Jubilee as Wondra with super-strength via tech now. It's not like her fireworks powers were ever getting to their top potential in our lifetimes anyway. :p

Most likely once Thor shows up, and probably does something like save a life or something, he'll be in violation of the SHRA, because:

1.) He's obviously not Clone Thor, and

2.) He's using his powers without a license.

They'll probably try talking to him, it becomes a small argument, Ares actually starts the fight, and Thor ends it.

I think that Iron Man and Ms. Marvel will try and offer Thor a spot on the Avengers to replace Ares (whom Ms. Marvel would most likely want to get rid of).

I thought the same thing. And I agree that his art is great. The cover to #1 alone is a work of beauty.

When I say that Jubilee is "more of an X-Man than anyone" I'm refering to her love and drive of and being a mutant superhero. I like Bobby as much as the next guy and while I'd say his heart's in the game, I wouldn't say the same for his soul...if that makes any sense. Not to mention that Carey hasn't really down much with him other than show that he can reconstitue himself from being evaporated. He seems more like background art then a main player in that particular book.

But to answer your question, I still think Jubilee was the heart AND soul of the X-Men when she was an active member. Bobby being in the right time and place to be an founding member is irrelevant.

In some ways I see Iceman as suffering the same problem as Johnny Storm; the Perennial Status Quo requires that they remain jokey idiots and can rarely evolve for long as characters. A founder is a founder.

Jubilee was an active X-Men from 1989 (she debuted in the 80's, folks!) to the mid 90's and at that time Wolverine was becoming the central focus of the X-Men. In some ways she was there to rekindle the dynamic that Kitty Pryde represented with the team, since Shadowcat had by then left for Excaliber. Youngster, very inexperienced with powere from the beginning, cosying up to Wolverine, and finally, eventually becoming very annoying at times. I wanted to shoot her in the face for every "Wolveroonie" once upon a time. By "Wolverine sidekick" standards, Kitty was Dick Grayson and Jubilee was Tim Drake. Some people hated her but I don't. But she's not one of my favorites, either. I like her a billion times more than Cable, though.

Least she had that long period with Generation X as top dog there to prove her own in some ways, much like Robin's usually have the Teen Titans.

Twice in recent years when she showed up, she got brutalized (being cruxified, then Omega Red puts a spike through her chest), so this return in NW's is a step above that. I just have rarely met a Jubilee fanboy before. :p

I liked that animosity between her and Monet St Croix.

I'm happy to see Jubilee doing something again. I'm just kind of suprised it's here. But I haven't READ the issue yet, so I'll hold my judgements. x.x

I'm frankly surprised that NEW WARRIORS is using a handful of ex-X-Men and it's not considered an X-book, too. But in theory it does make sense; the X-Men have long been known for training their members. If you are going to use technology to empower people, why not pick people who already have had training & experience in superhero missions, like most X-Men have? Plus, since the New Warriors are protecting gov't overreach with the SHRA, X-Men usually sympathize as they've been used to being under the eye of a paranoid gov't, or resisting laws that treat people differently because of "what they can do".

Beak & Sophia were still rookies when their X-Gene got negated, but Jubilee already had years of combat experience under her belt (even in Marvel time, at least some 2-3 years). So her being front and center as Wondra makes sense. It is good to see some X-Men appear in other books besides Wolverine, Beast, and Storm.

The mystery of who is Night-Thrasher continues, though.

Rand, I'm saying it now. Rand.

Then he'd be in 3 books a month that don't connect well, and that would irk me.

NW's is hinting that it is Dwayne Taylor, back from the dead. True, his death was "confirmed" in FRONTLINE #1, but hell, Wolverine's nose has been trucked out to "confirm" deaths that got undone a few times, so who knows? Maybe it was a Skrull who died.

Or, it could be Chord, or someone else in the armor. I am hesitant to revive some of the dead from Stamford so soon, but considering what a waste Speedball has become, I might be forgiving if this one was done well.

The thing with Jubilee is that she's actually one of the tougher X-Men. The other mutants from Iceman, Wolverine, Beast, Rogue, Cannonball, Gambit, Bishop, Angel, Storm, Cyclops, Jean, Banshee, Kitty, Emma, etc...they all fight or fought using their powers. It was generally accepted that Jubilee's powers were pretty lame (often times admitted by herself) and that forced her to train her body and learn to fight using only her body. In that way, your comparison to Robin is pretty accurate.

People can laugh at her or write her off as being a flighty, joke of an X-Man, but when it comes down to it, there're not a whole lot of characters in the Marvel Universe who can keep up with Wolverine. Her being able to do that in addition to her young age is impressive. Her personality aside, she's a straight badass.

Dude its pretty obvious who Night trasher is.:o Also Jubilee does suck, always has, its her legacy.

DOesn't seem to stop some characters.

Its the original, Dwayne Michael Taylor.

well since you typed it and revealed on the internet who it is Marvel is gonna change it now...it's now Echo

I wouldn't go that far and say other X-Men couldn't be hearty without their powers. Once upon a time, Cyclops was known for tactical precision as well as incredible judo skill, enough to toss Colossus on his rear and impress Colleen Wing. Bishop, Storm, and Gambit are also incredible fighters. But I do see your point, that Jubilee often has to rely on it more sometimes because her "fireworks" are often best for distraction or small explosions.

They always used to say that Jubilee had the potential to do nutron blasts or something really major (Emma Frost was even impressed at her future potential), and part of me always thought it would be cool if someone could move her past being the "sparkly paf's" girl and have her really get hardcore with her powers, but unfortunately M-Day ruined all that.

That said, she is a natural athlete and fighter, so giving her super-strength as Wondra seems to be a fine fit. And it's a far better name than "Speed" or "Stature". There, I said it. In the end, though, Jubliee is like any character, awesome or annoying depending on who writes her and in what circumstance. At least she has a sense of humor.

That is where the story is leading. As I said, it could be set-up for a twist, or it could be the second hero from Stamford in a year being resurrected, something I would be very wary of if I was a Marvel editor for fear of making so central an event seem trivial, but because of how badly Speedball has been pooched, I would be forgiving if Night-Thrasher did the "resurrection" bit better.

After all, Dwanye Taylor punched the Punisher in the balls and lived to tell of it. That is pretty hardcore. :p

I can't wait to see Logan react to her newfound mission in life.

Didn't Molly Hayes do the same thing?
