Bought/Thought June 4th, 2008

Really loving the new Iron Man series, which is saying alot since CW pretty much destroyed the character for me. I hope it continues.

Secret Invasion is losing steam, and I hope the action level throttles back up. And I hope Echo dieded. :p

Trinity is pretty frakking sweet. I'm REALLY psyched for this book now.

And I personally loved the Batman chat room scene. I got a kick out of all the major detectives chatting away "anonymously".

From the look of that gun. It seems Nick Fury has been hiding away in a 90s Youngblood comic.

I'm a little surprised that the Surfer is still so far beyond Nova, though; even with the entirety of the Nova Force, the Power Cosmic is still so much better that Nova was essentially running for his life most of the time?

Yeah I thought the same.

Haha, yeah that was my initial reaction, too. I also thought he and the rest of the Commandos wearing the standard SHIELD uniforms was a little odd. Maybe we're reading too much into it. Maybe Fury's attitude was, "**** that SHIELD. I'm SHIELD." :)

Haha, it's true. The only difference is that Fury looks like he's actually holding it here. You'd never get that in a Youngblood comic. ;)

And you miss the point AGAIN!

Here is every Bendis book written in the past few years:

Interesting concept - Possibly a taste of action

Deus Ex Machina comes out of nowhere and saves the day.

He's a one trick pony, anymore...and that pony sucks. You REFUSE to see it, so don't blame Dread. There are FAR better writers out there you could be defending. Only, you wouldn't have to defend them, because they don't suck.

Wow, and what the hell does that have to do with Nick Fury or Thor appearing? Nothing? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Give it a rest Blader, digging at Dread for the sake of it just makes you look like a dick.

I'm honestly getting a little bit bored of the SHIELD uniforms. They've become such a big part of the Marvel universe lately, and everyone who works for SHIELD wears one of the uniforms, so the uniforms are becoming damn near ubiquitous. They're a good design, but come on. A little variation, maybe? Fury's team isn't so bad, though. Only a few of them had SHIELD uniforms.

Oh, before I forget again, who were all the new Howling Commandos? I recognized Fury, Daisy, and the Phantom Rider's inexplicably Ghost-Rider-powered descendant, but that's it.

Yeah, and was that the Hood there, too? Hmm...

The kid is Ares's son. In pure Bendis fashion, he gets his continuity wrong and instead of him being 15 year old red head, he's a a 10 year blond.

Ares' son
Griffin's daughter
Phantom Rider's grandson
Dr. Druid's son

I don't know who the big guy is, though.

Druid's son is the guy in the hood, then? I also thought he was supposed to be the Hood. :o

Well, that's more of an art error than a Bendis error, but it is pretty egregious. I thought Ares' son had brown hair in the mini, though. Either way, I know he's definitely not supposed to be blonde. Kind of a big ****-up there.

Wouldn't that be Yu and the colorist's fault? Or maybe this what Marvel wants, perhaps?

To randomly make Ares' son blonde and five years younger? That would be an odd thing for Marvel to want...

Well, to make him younger mostly. I don't see how that's unusual for Marvel. That's pretty much what they do.

I guess. But so soon? He's barely even existed for 3 or 4 years now.
Who's that, the Tony Stark looking dude with the fire-chain?
Yeah. His grandpappy was the Phantom Rider, who had no powers, but he somehow is able to control fiery chains. I choose to believe that the power and his lineage are just a happy coincidence since it doesn't really make sense otherwise and Bendis hasn't shown me anything to discount that possibility (as far as I know, not having read MA since #2).

I think what happened was, Bendis watched the GR movie, and just used that version of Carter Slade as being his basis for this story. Maybe. I don't know.

Wouldn't surprise me. It's a shame if he did, though, since Garth Ennis gave us a canon version of the movie's Carter Slade in Trail of Tears. He's just not Carter Slade. And he's also black. And all his kids died.

I'm going back to my old theory. :o

No, Carter Slade was white and his name was changed to the Phantom Rider. The Trail of Tears Ghost Rider was Caleb, an ex-slave whose family was murdered. I mentioned him because he would've been around right about the same time as Slade.

Okay I guess I have to spell it out for you, big shocker.

NICK FURY IS THE DEUS EX MACHINA.

Oh, so Slade wasn't even in the Trail of Tears story? I didn't read it, but just assumed it was about Carter.
