Arachne, Spider-Woman, whatever. Hasn't the ho used both names?

Technically, Carpenter wanted to use Arachne first before settling on Spider-Woman during her tenure with Freedom Force. So in a way she is going back to her "original" name.

Don't call her a ho. She's somebody's mommy. ;)

Fine. I'll leave the dame alone.

took a while for me to get down to the store, here's my thoughts:

SI#3: Better than most of his stuff, but still it felt muted. It started really well with creepy Jarviskull talking smack but then feel into a typical and easy to figure pattern of the superskrulls showing how badass they were by beating down teenagers. Too many pages of fighting and killing people I don't care about (vision isn't dead). The dialogue was not really there and that's a shame because two of the three main dialogue points (jarviskull, norman/captian, tony/skrullqueen) was really top notch for bendis with only the tony part showing constant repetition. (bendis could have gotten massive cool points if he just had tony stay silent then knock the ***** clean out and had Iron Man's part for the rest of the invasion with him building new armor and questioning his prisoner, ah well). The thunderbolts part with norman was the other highlight that didn't get to be explored. It ends with fury doing his fury thing and apparently with ultra super strenght now cause that gun he was holding looked to weigh as much as a Volkswagen Scirocco, which is a shame since I'm a big fan of Strange Tales and NFAOS and anyone that's read those knows fury prefers the simple shot to the head with an handgun (though a rather cool handgun) to punisher style antics based on inferiority issues.

Avengers/Invaders #2: I didn't expect too much from this but I was impressed. Initial good points: Namor was as badass as he should always be (take note this is how you write the prince of atlantis), tony's "fight" with cap had a lot of symbolic meaning which furthered this pretty well, sentry was kept away (which I can understand since they were just trying to restrain the Invaders, and cause the sentry blows). The MA take out the Invaders (except namor) but there's some mixed feelings making it hard. The best parts (other than namor/ares talking smack) came with them captured and dealing with their jailors. Human Torch looked rather badass and should be difficult to handle, but bucky got more hardcore points in this then I think even Captian America gives him, doubly so cause he's just a kid in this. The ending was obvious but with plenty of promise.

Trinity #1: I took a chance and was glad I did. For mainly a bunch of people just talking I was highly entertained. From WW scolding Bats and Supes for "having too much fun" to each of them having the same but different dream there was a lot to love in the primary story. The secondary story was equally as good if not better, and I say this as someone that doesn't really like La Fey very much at all. Enigma was throughly badass, I thought he was just some new ultra version of Riddler but apparently he's something else, though his riddler motif and speech style was very much there. The idea of an evil trinity definately has merit and potential. I'll definately be picking up issue #2.

Ultimate Origins. Kinda interesting premise, but I'm not blown away. A lot of setup and not much else so I'll get the next issue, but I'm on the fence with this. There's not too much to talk about: supersoldier programs, best intentions gone wrong, human genome experimentation there I just recaped the issue for you.

Ugh...that was awful. Batman was written totally out-of-character. I know Morrison has been stripping away some of the grittiness to Bruce Wayne, but the "Hey buddy ol' pal" banter was cringe-worthy. It was even worse in JLA a couple weeks ago.

Bat's always was kinda a self important *****e in a lot of ways. I kinda liked seeing him and supes getting called on it. The intro line was kinda weird, I agree, though I was wondering if that was just him messing with him. Bruce can get too gritty IMO a lot of times, he's not the punisher and I don't like seeing him written that way. Plus the idea that bruce orchrastrated that to see the look in their eyes, was a classic bats move.

I don't know much about Bucky exept he "died" a long time ago is now the new Captain America, But did he always have plastique explosives in his arm that need to be cut out to use, "Like every good American boy"? That was a stretch for me. I know now he is a bad ass and all, but this seemed a little much. I am enjoying the series so far though. I also seems to be moving pretty quickly for being 12 issues.

Only like every american boy that grew up fighting nazi's alongside captian america during ww2. Way I saw it, it really made a fairly convincing case for why bucky was allowed in the invaders. It was definately a streach but it's also a comic with a water prince that can fly because of tiny little wings on his ankles, so I can let it slide without too much trouble. Plus the whole set up with toro talking about how his buddy will get him out cause everyone underestimates him, that was cool to see it was bucky he was actually refering too.

It was part of his Bruce Wayne facade. Bruce Wayne is a fun playboy with a carefree attitude. Basically the polar opposite of Batman.

That's pretty much how I read into it.

I prefer a more laid back Batman than a raging psycho anyway.

Really? No big deal, huh? Plastique explosives. Inside his arm. All the time. Or he just HAPPENED to have them for this mission? Which is even worse, really. And I know this is a world where radiation gives you powers and not cancer and tiny wings on ankles WILL allow you to fly, but c'mon.

So the examples you listed are actual physical impossibilities, while you could actually keep plastique in your arm without any harm or chance of it exploding. Your problem is with the one "powerset" ,if you will, that could actually happen?

Eh, it worked for me in B:TAS and it works for me in Trinity. I liked that Wonder Woman even commented on the fact that Bruce and Clark both put on such an act in their respective secret identities.

It's not even really a problem, I just would be more believable, to me, if he could have MacGuyvered his way out of the cell or had some tools or something hidden somewhere ON his body instead of INSIDE it. Does he have any kind of healing powers? It just seemed "Oh, isn't it nice and convienient that I have explosives implanted in my arm, that need to be ripped and torn out of my body, for just THESE kind of situations.":cwink:

Is it more believable than receiving powers from a radioactive spider, or the ability to fly from tiny wings on your ankles? Of course. But this is comics. You can't ***** about believability. As far as the plot goes, it just seemed a little too easy. That's all.

fair point. I thought it went to the idea the bucky even though a kid is the only real soldier there, trained and such. Cap doesn't really count in that he only became a soldier after recieving powers, so I bought bucky as the guy that would go the extra mile and be prepared for almost anything, but I can also see why that bothers people.

Which of the following do you find easier to accept:

1. Superman being able to fly

2. Bat Shark-Repellant

?

I don't see a problem with having Bucky hide explosives in his body rather than on it. Think about it. If you're in a situation where you need to use them (i.e. being held captive), they're not going to be all that effective after they've been taken from you before throwing you into a cell. Do people honestly believe that prisnors are just apprehended and jailed without a search? Now THAT's a stretch.

Bat Shark Repellant FTW, hell people have various forms of that from emp pulses to chemicals right now.

Hans:
Plus ripping off your fingernail to uses as a straight razor is all kinds of badass.
