    Happy Thanksgiving, Guest!

Bought//Thought March 07 2007.

Captain America #25- I wont go into a summarizing of the book because frankly, everyone knows what happens. I have to admit before I go on that when I heard the news, I was pissed, really pissed and utterly disgusted. After the initial shock was over, I was able to think rationally and put my faith in brubaker as a solid writer. So i bought the book, read it and thought:

Brubaker hits this one out of the park. The story is depressing. Of course it is, no one wants to see their favorite character die. But the writing, art and everything about this comic is excellent. Its violent, its bloody, and it pulls on the heart strings. A comic that invokes so much thought and emotion that I had to take a break after reading it. Its a hard pill to swallow frankly. Cap is dead. Of course he'll be back, but it still changes nothing.

I know all of you are going into your fanboy rage, dropping all your Marvel titles in a wave of irrational thought and grief. Cursing Brubaker, Quesada, Brevoort. Saying its all about hype, and making a big splash. None of that matters to me. All I know at the end of the day, I got a great comic, and a fitting end to the story arc Brubaker has been building since day one. I really hope you guys can see past all the hype and media coverage and actually read this comic, borrow it from a friend, download it, I don't care. The fact is, a lot of you are discussing this and getting angry and going on rants about a comic, you havent read. Seeing is believing, and I believe in what brubaker is doing. I look forward to what he has in store next and Steve Rogers inevitable resurrection.
You know, you sometimes say some pretty fudged up stuff, but then you make a post like this and it should get nothing less than respect. I hate you.

Well said Darth...I agree wholeheartedly with this sentament.

Nice review Darth. Still don't have a copy, i'd jsut like to read it right now.

So true. Most of these same bastards haven't read any of Bru's run, or his other stuff. Really, outside of deadly genesis and books of doom, the man hasn't done Marvel much wrong since he started working here. He's making up for deadly genesis with UXM anyways, he's just kinda dragging that story though.

BTW, that quote is my new sig, because im sick of all the *****ing on this board.

I just have one comment about the comics I picked up.

I picked a hell of a day to return to the comic shop after a month or two off. And I hadn't even heard about Cap's death when I got there and notice the influx of new people and was like ''Whoa..."

Now I know.

Yea I pretty much avoided all the threads discussing Cap's death. You know it's always the same rants over and over,so just avoid it.

I can't even complain about what I don't like about his death. To put it simply, I caught feelings :csad:. Nothing to do with this being a ploy to hype up his movie . I just think Cap's been on quite the rollercoaster lately.

So Detective wasn't all that eh?Anybody else get it?I think I'm skipping out.

I skipped detective because it was a huge week for me (I was actually getting last weeks too) and it's not Dini and sounded dull. If it was Royal again I probably would have got it though, he wrote a good fill in last time.

I got Captain American #25, the guy at my shop held a few for regular customers who don't pull the title (they were completely sold out on the shelves, the shop was crazy). Convinced me to get it and I'd been thinking of getting the Brubaker trades for a while and ironically this issue is a really good jumping on point.

I read it and really liked it. It was a well written comic with loads of heart and everything hits the right notes. The best deaths are ones written with meaning, Captain Mar-Vell, Ted Kord and Barry Allen always stick out for me. Now I think I can add this.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes and knowing Brubaker and going on what loads of people have been saying about the run, it's in great hands. Now I'll go track down the trades. We know he'll be returning and I just hope they leave him dead long enough to not cheapen the death and make a longer impact.

As Darth said, I don't think this comic is anything to be angry about.

Now this is the part of this thread where I ask "Where's the Dread?" :o

Dread where you at?

Did you buy Might Avengers?

I could brag, afterall I was right but Cap's still dead

I can't believe the stupid morons that spoilt it. They're not even regulars or anything. Very annoying. One minute, you're in the community looking at thread titles, NOWHERE near the comic book forum, and you see (everyone knows by now) cap america is dead omg!!! It pissed me off. What I would have really loved, is just for someone to hand me the book, and say "you have to read this" and not say why. Ah well. Not going to happen now.

Did anyone else pick up Hulk? Incredible Hulk has been solid right from the very start of Pak's run. Every issue rules.

Every Marvel character is going through big stuff at the moment. When Caiera spilt the beans "This is where you belong. With your people. With your Queen. With your child". I had to put the comic book down for a second. Seriously! I got all... not teary, thats not the right word. I just didn't expect it at all. And the ending... I was as furious as the Hulk is undoubtidly gonna be! I mean, BEFORE he had reason enough to hate Stark... but now... now he has more reason to hate Stark than anyone, even Peter. I just have a feeling the child isn't gonna make it! Why can't characters just be happy?? WHY???

KNow how I found out about cap? It was on the news, Between 5:30 am and 6:20 am, CW 11. I was curious when they said "Stay tuned to find out which Marvel superhero dies in today's issue." I was like "This is almost like when spider unmasked. Must be a big deal." I was stuned when they said captain america. I wsa also upset how they were exploiting it, like they really cared.

Great post. I was wondering what you thought about it. Thanks for the review.

Thank you guys. I know I have a rep around here for being a "major negative person" and I was all but ready to drink the haterade going in. I think its something when I can can be happy with one of my favorite comic book hero's death. Its really a great comic, and I think some people here are really doing themselves a disservice by not reading it. But I also understand where they are coming from. I'm excited to see wahts next for the Captain America title and all his allies.

Mighty Avengers #1- So I walk into my store last night to beat the Cap rush (they only had enough for subscribers and not even) and the comic book guy hands me my pull. He turns to me and says, "You going to get Mighty Avengers?" and paused and I said "No, I'm waiting for the trade but I might be interested if I hear good things" so he turns gets a copy and says "Its on the house, you better buy some Magic cards or something though". I didn't. That said, I read Mighty Avengers and this is what I thought about: Damn good.

Contrary to popular belief, I'm not on an IV drip of Bendis Hate, I'm willing to give a guy a shot like New Avengers (newly added on my pull lost, I still feel dirty). Bendis does some great work here weaving a pretty straight forward story here. Tony wants to form an Avengers team, asks Carol to lead, they pick a team, they fight Mole Man. Decompression out the door, we get abig fight, the team is together and we get the introduction of the big arc villain. Meltzer may be able to learn a thing or two from this issue.

Now I've read online reviews and some them seem to focus on what they claim to be the second coming of christ: Thought bubbles. Its used innovatively throughout the issue and effectively for some funny moments and such, but overall, it was pretty meh. Clearly something I'm not used to and will have to if I continue on this title. There was some hiccups in the writing though, Bendis still has a hard time writing the Sentry, he goes from ******ed 7 year old syaing sorry a lot to Greek God like being in a couple of pages. Some funny yet irritating dialogue with Wasp and Ms Marvel about how hawt Sentry is.

Frank Cho does some solid work showing off that he can draw good women, but also some great sequential scenes with solid panel layout. His Iron Man isn't the best as he gives Tony a "fatass" IMO, but nothing to really start a *****fest over.

Overall, Bendis hits a good note here, with some solid team dynamics and fight scenes and some of the old fashioned Bendis talking heads involved. If Bendis can keep up this pace and quality, I may have to permanently add this to my pull list.

Man, you're catching so much praise this week, I'm ready to call you Dread. :oldrazz:

Well said, though. Man, it's scary how much we've agreed lately. I remember the old days, where I'd praise Austen and 20 Hypers would be ready to tear me a new one. :woot:

Sweet review DP

I assume this is the same comic book guy who gives you free comics

Everyone's biatching because of "thought bubbles"???

:whatever: :whatever: :whatever:
