You're not wrong. May's maiden name is indeed "Reilly." Seems like JMS doesn't know his Clone Saga history.ASM: After I read this issue, I thought I had spotted a continuity error. Since no one has mentioned it, I'm guessing I was the one that had it wrong. Okay, let me go back to the Clone Saga. Where did Ben (Scarlet Spider) get his last name "Reilly"? I always thought "Reilly" was Aunt May's maiden name, however, in ASM, Peter says that her maiden name was "Fitzgerald". Did I have it wrong? If I did, where did the name "Reilly" come from? If I was right, why didn't anyone mention it (maybe no one wants to remember the Clone Saga)?

To be fair, Marvel has collectively deemed all elements of that era IXNAY, even if they make sense to explore, and for the most part it has been unofficially retconned, mentioned only as a joke. Losing Ben Rielly was like losing an adopted brother, but don't expect any writer to have Peter angst about that nearly as much as he does Gwen.

This isn't completely the case. The last arc in Spider-Girl before the switch to Amazing Spider-Girl brought in many characters and snippets from the clone saga, and made sense of many things from the Clone era.
He was one of the only writers I've seen do anything with the Clone Saga in years. It was a wonderful way to send off the original Spider-Girl series.
Anyone that is reading Exiles right now....did you catch Claremont making his statement on the current state of the X Franchise?
When he had psylocke mention how in her world Sabertooth is probably replacing her on the X-Men.
Something tells me that Claremont is not happy with how Marvel is handling his baby from years ago.
You right, it is an omission. The DeFalco MC2 Universe is quite literally the only Marvel comic remotely allowed to use elements from that era. But you'd hardly see it in the mainstream. When was the last time Peter & MJ commented on their stillborn daughter? Exactly. Now to me this experience in a way could add perspective and depth to Peter's discussions with Luke Cage after his own daughter's birth, but that cannot be, and you can see how this "block" can rob us of potentially decent exchanges.
I'm not saying that we should be diving into having Kaine pop up in 7 books again, just thinking that in terms of 616 Marvel, the Clone Saga and all elements therein, good and bad, have been unofficially retconned and you rarely get any mention of them beyond some clone joke from Spidey. Much like no one in the Fantastic Four, least in 616, mentions Lyja Lazerfist. Because that would mean admitting that Johnny Storm, usually the butt of "he can't commit" jokes, actually was faithfully married to someone for years in RT. And that would mean evolving past stereotype. And that can't happen, at least not unless someone is violently attacked or killed these days. Maybe it'd swallow easier if some character shifts felt more natural over time, rather than sudden.
Well, that IS a really awful idea. I know it's not quite the same as last time, but I find it hard to believe that Scott and Emma would allow Sabretooth in the mansion in any capacity.
Hopefully they do the same to "The Other."![]()
I agree though, they do have certain "Taboo" stories that will never be mentioned again due to that restriction. It just seems to be the way it works....especially since there was some major story potential that came out of the clone saga....and a good writer *coughDanSlottcough* could make sense of certain things, and maybe even close off loose threads.
How about the Sentenal registering the baby in MJ's womb as a mutant, or the fact that they made it seem like someone had taken the baby.
Both good possibilities for stories. Reed and Sue have a mutant baby, why can't Peter and Mary Jane? Oh, I know, it's because Peter must be a bachelor for their to be any interesting stories to tell.![]()
MJ, I'd watch my back if I were you, or you might be the next person getting violently butt raped by Joe Q.![]()
Finally, a kindred spirit. I railed against Gordon's return for days after "Face the Face" started. It sickened me that they made Akins a crooked cop and basically forgot that almost all the rest of the Gotham Central cast is still working at the GCPD, just so they could once again make Gordon (Batman's pet cop) and Bullock (a moron who got himself kicked off the force) the Gotham City Police Department. They're apparently it as far as anyone is concerned because heaven forbid a police organization be portrayed as (gasp!) competent in Gotham; otherwise what would Batman ever have to do?I've long hated both Marvel and DC for pretty much expunging everything that happened from 1990-2000.
I grew up with Ben Reilly as Spider-Man, and the slight against him still irritates.
Don't even get me started on DC's attempts to fix everything "wrong" with their mainstream heroes, even if that means reverting everything back to a decades old status quo. Jim Gordon should not be the commisioner of gotham. Not now, not ever again.

It is just known, but it's known because Spider-Man used to ALWAYS say something to the effect of:
CRIMINAL: Get me down!
SPIDER-MAN: Don't worry, the webbing will dissolve in an hour or so. Of course, the cops will have already captured you by then!
That's one thing I'll miss since the web is all organic now. He can't mix chemicals to get different webbing.
In special circumstances, he can whip up a batch of webbing that can last near indefinitly.
