Bought/Thought May 29th, 2008

The Moon Knight thing is way more annoying than the Eternals one. At least I didn't see an Eternals preview on EVERY FREAKING SINGLE BOOK I GET!!!!

That and they at least deserve a preview IMO. Why the hell does Moon Knight deserve one?

I never bothered reading the Eternals preview cause when I skimmed through it said "PAGE 7 FROM ISSUE 1" followed by "PAGE 14 FROM ISSUE 2" and other stupid non-linear **** like that. Ohhhh pretty art pages, yeah cause I can't find that online

Sweet day for my comic book haul, at Forbidden Planet. Back issues for just 20p?! As I geeked out, I found The Order, Astounding Wolf-Man, A:TI, Fear Agent, Ult.Spidey, Marvel Zombies 2 and She-Hulk. Damn good finds, which weighed out the disappointment of my shop not keeping any issues behind for me from last week. Least I still picked up Cap.A though.

Uncanny X-Men 498
Land can get the hell away from this book. I love Choi's work in Uncanny. It's fresh, it's unique...it's not traced garbage. I have no idea why I thought it was Sabretooth at first in the short panel, but seeing Omega Red once more? Waheys. I have a soft spot for the Russian, I'm afraid. I think it's the tentacles.
Oh, you know what else should stay with Uncanny? That snazzy getup Scott is rocking right now :o
10/10

Ult.Spidey 122
Ah, Immonen is one of my favourite artists of all time. So, seeing him continue his work on Ult.Spidey is a right treat. Nothing too amazing here, just a nice little added characterization for the Shocker.
9/10

Immortal Iron Fist 15
Eh, filler. No Daniel Rand. I want some Rand. Nonetheless, this was a cool issue. I guess it's a nice break from Danny, and the art was rather impressive.
8/10

I checked out 1985, and Astonishing X-Men...both looked great. I know the obvious end to Astonishing, but I'll still purchase it.

Are you picking up the trades? Marvel did a really nice job on organizing everything, so far. I'm impressed by the attention to detail.

Sidenote: How awesome was Cassaday's Spider-Man? The first 4 pages are glorious. The first spread is great, but I really love the panel with Nightcrawler, too.

Nah, I still have the issues and plan to bind them into a set of Hardback volumes. Eventually my entire collection will be like that. I'm almost finished with Spidey and the X-Men are my next task, starting with the 90's relaunch through current, and I'll eventually make my way backwards. So thus, I don't buy trades.

Cassaday's Spidey was great. I didn't like Whedon's writing of him, but I loved the way he looked. The Nightcrawler panel must not have stood out to me since I don't remember it, but I'll go back and check it out.

Oh, that's cool. I was around 10 or 11 when Onslaught happened, so my issues were sporadic and aren't in the best shape. That's cool, though.

Naaa man, I thought it was Sabes at first too. As much as I like Omega Red, I was very disappointed that it wasn't Creed. If there's any X-character I want resurrected, it's him.
However, I'm not enjoying Choi's work in this title and the coloring bothers me a lot too. Maybe I'm on something or just wasn't thinking, but this was the first time in a long time that I had to wait a few panels/pages before I figured out who was who (referring to Sabes and Red, particularly.)
Maybe it's Choi's storytelling style or something.

I'm waiting for it to finish, then if people are still praising it, I'll pick up the trade.

you mean it's still and always will be 1985? When the hell do I get born?!?

amazed at the lack of 1985 love

Maybe people just don't care. I mean, how many Millar written books do we have to read before we realize we don't like him. I personally hit my threshold.

wtf is 1985 about anyway? I saw a solicit for it saying that it's all the villians against a world with no super heroes and some schmuck comic reader figures out a way to stop them or something.

Sounded aweful.

I didn't bother with 1985. It never sparked my interest even from the sneak peaks. I usually need a good reason to grab something that isn't 616 related, especially since I have abandoned Ultimate, and 1985 didn't provide one. I will be curious to see how it sells alongside FANTASTIC FOUR, which is another Millar book, and KICK-ASS, his ICON series that is doing well for the line (any ICON book that sells above the Top 50 is good; even POWERS from Bendis struggles to sell in the Top 100 most months).

As for MOON KNIGHT, yeah, the insert pages for the next arc are annoying. I can understand trying to drum up interest in a sagging book, but the effort is likely wasted. I haven't cared for Benson's first arc and despite the decent art and connection to MK's past, I will likely be off the book by then. I always am fascinated by the books that Marvel chooses to aggressively promote in this way. The last time, it was the bomb, HOWLING COMMANDOS How about CAPTAIN BRITAIN AND MI-13? I swear, Marvel never chooses well when having to boost a book that is good and needs the help vs. a book that can't be saved for a good reason and to let the market take it's course.

It is telling that Marvel isn't bending over backwards to involve Moon Knight in SI as they were to include him in THE INITIATIVE.

Messiah Complex Book - 10/10.
- Best X-Men story I read in a long long time. I loved the story even though I knew the ending before hand. I was upset we got little Sinister though and I don't really like the artwork done for New X-Men though.

Batman 677 - 7/10
- The story is kind of interesting but after ending of 676 it was a let down in general.

New Avengers 41 - 5/10
- Found it boring. :D

I also bought X-Men Legacy 212, Final Crisis 1 which I didn't read yet because I bought Infinite Crisis which I have to read first. Angel Revelations I need to read as well. Still catching up on some things :D

Possibly.

His average sales though made me think there would be more opinions floating about for it though. Also pretty art tends to sell books and the art is oh so pretty. (and the issue itself was pretty darn good).

I'm not sure but it may actually be 616 related. The first issue was perhaps the least snarky thing i've read from millar that wasn't a superman story. It was...nice, decent human beings trying to be good. Somewhat against his norms.

I think the "schmuck comic reader" is a little kid, and he's actually the one pulling characters out of the comics into the "real" world.

I didn't bother with 1985. It sounds like a vaguely interesting premise, but pretty much the only thing I liked from Millar is his Flash comics with Morrison. Everything else that I've read from him rubs me the wrong way, so I finally just decided to not read anything else from him.

Why? Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis aren't related at all.

And Infinite Crisis is a ****ing awful story anyway, so I would wholly recommend against reading it.

Infinite Crisis, Identity Crisis, and Final Crisis are all related in that Dan DiDio considers them a "Crisis trilogy."

I don't care what DiDio thinks. There's no story relation between those three events.

Sure there is. Identity Crisis and Infinite Crisis both redefined the DC universe in key ways, and it seems like Final Crisis will be doing the same.

You can say the same for any comic event and group them together like that.

My point was that the three crises aren't plot-related. Flash of Two Worlds, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and Infinite Crisis are all certainly related to each other, but the Identity/Infinite/Final trilogy only share the most general of similarities.

To be fair, we can't honestly say this until Final Crisis finishes. You will probably turn out to be correct, however there is a chance Morrison will link them in Final Crisis.

My X-book Round up.

X-men Legacy #212-I never thought a Book about Charles could be so interesting. This is Quickly becoming one of my favorite books. It's giving Uncanny a run for it's money.I liked that Gambit is in it as he is one of my favorites.Anyways it seems Sinister is connected to shaw,Charles and Marko in ways we never knew. Can't wait for this to unfold futher.

Uncanny X-men #498-I liked but liked X-men Legacy more this week.We find out
that Matermind II is behind the San Fran thing and we see how badass Nightcrawler can be.Also At first I thought that was Sabertooth too.Anyways I am Happy that we got Omega Red and never figured him for someone Brubaker would use. However I wish Choi would stay on the book.I'm loving his work.

Giant Size Astonishing X-men-I LOVED Cassaday's Spider-man.I liked How Spidey was the whole issue actually.Whedon should write him one day.But only a mini cause as we saw with this series he has some issues with lateness.{Although I'm sure Cassaday has something to do with it too.}As we all knew for months Kitty didn't make it back.so that kinda took the suspense out of everything.I didn't until someone mentioned that the ruler never mentions the weakness.so that was useless.I do like the interactions between Brand and Beast.Hank needs some anyways. Also I guess Armour is the new Kitty/Jubilee.Well is was a good issue.I give a solid 8.

Also got: Daredevil #107,Immortal Iron Fist #15,Final Crisis #1,Batman #677 and Ghost Rider #23
