Bought/Thought Jan 16th

I know you don't. It hurts my heart. :(

It's not that I didn't give it a shot either. I read some of the best stuff Hell Boy supposedly had to offer and I found it lacking. Maybe I just ain't that into horror.

I drew a short comic depicting a fight between Hellboy and Buffy, once. Well, if by "drew" I actually meant "didn't finish."
Smelling the hint of blood in the water, BrianWilly moves over to investigate, seeing a chance to possibly kick someone when they are down. Awesome. :D
Less of a hint and more of gaping wound in your foot that you yourself shot, really:joker:.

Dread, I only say this because I care...well, no, that's a filthy lie, but I'm going to say it anyway: work on lightening up. Drink some OJ. I'm the oldest fart in the room, yet you make feel ten years younger and ten times less flatulent.

*STOMP* And there it was.

I bet you feel all kinds of Buffytastic now. :p

C'mon, man, be honest. By "lighten up", you mean: "Accept the same 1-3 of us who have been doing it for the past year or so tearing into any grammar error or hint of illogic from a stance on something as if NO other human on the face of the earth or within the entire span of human history, including ourselves, have these sorts of quirks. Do so with a smile and a chuckle. And when you get angry or defensive about it, we cry foul and say you're a stiff piece of crap who should learn to take his lumps with a smile, yet never being allowed to give lumps back, because when you try to do the same to us, we don't like it."

I think I like myself as I am. :gray:

Which was?

I'm still trade-waiting. I'll see what others think, and the sales projections and whatnot, before going in. OMD has really done Slott no favors, and my hesitation about BND has had nothing to do with him as a writer specifically, or even McNiven as an artist. But, I've made this clear before, and people harp on me when I repeat myself. :p

Since I have the books on sub, I told CaptainStacy that I would continue to also get them at the store, and send them to him if he ever decided he wanted to start up again. I'll extend the same offer to you, no obligation on your part. (Although, since Cap gave the first issue a try, I haven't bought them there. I'll see if #2 is still on the stands, and get #1 on the reprint. No pressure. If you never decide to read Amazing again, maybe I'll give them to the first kid I see dressed as Spider-Man at Halloween. :spidey: )

That's a very generous offer and I appreciate it, but I think I will pass. When the trade comes out, I will probably get it then in that format if I decide to try it. Or, just pick up some reprints (the first issue is seeing a second print, and many shops over-order).

Besides, giving a kid a comic on Halloween is probably the best option in terms of the industry. Need to get kids reading comics. Greater good and all.

Feel free to change your mind. I never want to strong-arm anyone into spending their hard-earned $$$ (and it always turns out a disappointment that way.) That said, I am really enjoying it (much more than I thought I would.)

I have a friend who can DL them for me if I want to go that route. Thanks. I'd rather see a kiddie web slinger get a freebie if it comes to that. ;)

That's...well, no, that'd actually be the exact opposite of lightening up.

I know. But it seems whenever someone asks me to do so, it is under that sort of circumstances. "lighten up = stop complaining and take our *****ing with a grin". Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. Depends on mood.

Please, some of you do things I could make fun of every week, but I don't. If I did, good lord, these B/T's would actually have more bickering than they already do. :wow: Hypocrisy is something we all share.

To keep things on topic, how about MCP #5 using the Black Widow that Bendis Adaptoid'd and then killed in NEW AVENGERS as part of VANGUARD? What's THAT about!?

I thought the same.

I like that Blade is a part of it, though...whatever "it" is.

Yeah, it was weird seeing him kill someone who WASN'T a vampire, or even something supernatural. But obviously that "niche" has been limiting to Blade since forever, so if someone wants to involve him in something else for a change, I can't see how it will do much more damage.

Didn't Widow turn into a pile of goo at the end of that Avengers story? Maybe she reformed, somehow...

HYDRA blew her up after she was defeated.

Either this story takes place before her stint in New Avengers, which contradict the new Dominic Fortune, there has been a continuity goof, or, Yelena Belova is now a Skrull. Or someone will say the version that went rogue and became Hydra's new Adaptoid was an LMD, which has been the most handy way to retcon SHIELD agent screw-up's for over a decade. :p

Better a day late than never...

Booster Gold #6
It always feels like it's too long between issues of this book. This book mixes the right amounts of passion, heroics, humor, an--HOLY SHAZBOT IT'S TED! I didn't know what to expect from this issue (I hate speculating on comics I'm having too much fun with), so I was pleasantly surprised to see them actually save Ted's life. At this point, my wet dream is for Ted to remain a regular in this book, secretly saving the world with Booster while the rest of the world thinks he's dead. But I'm too damn cynical for that, so I'm just going to twiddle my thumbs and wait to see how Ted'll end up again at the end of this storyline.

Justice League of America #17
I hope the disappearance of villains in this book is part of some greater mystery McDuffie will slowly reveal down the line, and not something related to Countdown and the next Crisis that I'm just completely clueless about. I have a feeling it's the latter, though.

Robin #170
I've missed out on Robin's book for the past couple of months, and have been completely out of the loop as far as Batman's whole clique is concerned. Is... is Spoiler back from the dead? Because Robin seemed pretty convinced this new girl in town was Steph, until he saw her.

Fell #9
HOLY MOTHER! An issue of Fell? Really? How long has it been? Wow. Next you'll be telling me the final issue of Planetary is due soon.

Immortal Iron Fist #12
Oh. Wow. This story just became a lot more contrived than I thought it'd be. Not a bad thing, mind you. In fact, I'm impressed. I mean, just when you think you have the story figured out and you're waiting for the carnage to unfold, it turns out the carnage had another fold... to... unfold. Sorry, that sentence got away from me. Good issue. Moving on.

New X-Men #46 / Messiah Complex #12
None of the good guys died or seemingly died in this issue. I'm impressed, Kyle & Yost. Not impressed enough to buy X-Force, of course.

Checkmate #22

Elsewhere, we get our new White Queen's Bishop and Knight, who are both new characters, as far as I know, although the Knight wears the familiar guise of Rocket Red.

Neither of them are new characters. Well, the Rocket Red is relatively new, having appeared in early issues of Green Lantern. But the bishop is an obscure character from the 80's.

100 Bullets #86
Umbrella Academy #5
Countdown #15
Checkmate #22
Warbound #2
Marvel Comics Presents #5
JLA #17
Booster Gold #6
New Warriors #8
Amazing Spider-Man #547
Iron Fist #12
Birds of Prey #114
Incredible Herc #113

Umbrella Academy #5 - Yeah,Spaceboy and Rumor aren't really brother and sister when you get right down to it but...yech. Didn't expect Pogo to buy it but I wouldn't be surprised if Number 5 (or should I call him the New Monocle?) gets himself a new monkey sidekick.

Checkmate #22 - These last two issues have just really let us know how little we know about many of the cast members. Hopefully Rucka will make the others' backstories as interesting as Marie's (and the little we've been shown about Midnight seems to point in that direction).

Incredible Herc #113 - The art is not that good but the story makes up for it. They need to get Art Adams to do interiors as well as covers.

In regards to Umbrella Academy, the final page stumped me at first until I read #1-4 again and saw the significance of the newspaper.

I finally got around to reading the rest of my books this week, with these two being my picls of the week.

'76 #1 - This a double feature comic with one story being done by B. Clay Moore and Ed Tatum (Jackie Karma), and the other by Seth Peck and Tigh Walker (Cool). Now, I'm a pretty big B. Clay Moore fan but I actually found Peck and Walker's story to be the best of the two. It focuses on a bounty hunting duo made up of Pete and Leon who are given the gig of bringing in Cherry Baum, who ran off with the drugs and the money of a botched drug deal after her boyfriend was murdered. I'm a sucker for a good buddy cop story, and this one looks very promising.

The first one by Moore and Tatum was good but it served primarily as a set up for the rest of ths story. It's about Jackie Karma, a one time kung-fu vigilante/hustler turned mild mannered New York lawyer getting a cryptic message from an old associate and returning to his martial arts roots one last time. Like I said, it's good but it serves primarily to set up the rest of the series, whereas Cool put the players in place as well as packed in the action. Definitely worth the money, in my opinion. I'd love to see an ongoing based on Cool.

Cemetery Blues #1 - Image is knocking it out of the park these days. They've long since moved past the era of overrated art, overrated creators and horrible scheduling delays, and have fully embraced the world of creator owned, indie books like this one. This is such a ****ing good debut issue. The art is the first thing you notice and it's phenomenal. Thomas Boatwright, the guy behind the Surreal of Adventures of Edgar Allan Poo, is an incredible artist. He mixes standard inks with charcoal flawlessly and gives everything an awesomely vibrant and dymanic look that almost animates itself off of the black and white pages. The story, by Ryan Rubio, isn't anything to sneeze at either. The way he writes the two heroes, Mort and Falstaff, it's like you've known them forever; the characterization is that spot on and consistent. I really, really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next issue. I hope it's sales can warrant a sequel. It'd be a shame for these guys not to contintue what they've started here.

Booster Gold rocked. Shut the thread down. SHUT IT DOWN FOR EVER!

Fack, I still gotta read Cemetery Blues.

This was a really fun indie week for me. I enjoyed the hell out of Zombies vs. Robots vs. Amazons #2. That book does absurd humor so well, and Ashley Wood's art is drool-worthy no matter what he's drawing.
