Pretty generic stuff, but I laughed out loud at the ending. I won't spoil it, but depending on how seriously you take these things, you should get a kick out of it (i.e. it might piss some people off...)

The crappy explanation of his return doesn't bother me as much as it did an hour ago. Most resurrection stories plain and simple, suck ass. (Exceptions of course). Lets just hope the follow through is on par with the Winter Solider and such.

it still bothers me. if marvel told me they were planning his return, i'd picture a huge event. something on par with civil war, but happier.

instead we get this rag that spews staple-less pages.

Problem is its not really a ressurection as much as it is a 'stay of execution': Mar-Vell's number is still up unless he creates an all-mighty paradox. As it stands his now knowing he is dying is already a paradox that will have to be undone before he gets sent back in time (which he has to eventually...Cant see how they can get around that unless they say this Mar-Vell is from a parallel past or something)

He wakes up and says something to the effect of .."and what's the deal with that uniform?" Since that series doesn't seem like it will finish, it might be Marvel's way of saying that it was all a dream...

I laughed at that little story...I think it was their way of poking fun at the sillyness of the story and situation that was Ult Wolverine Vs Hulk.

Wolverine #50

let me preface this by saying this is the first issue of wolverine i've bought in...years. and it's entirely due to the fact the ed "the damn man" mcguinness does a back up story. onward.

this is not bad. i'm very surprised, but i really enjoyed this issue. the art, i can take or leave. actually, that's not fair. it's good art. i just think bianchi's a little overrated. he's talented for sure, but he's not the second coming. the way he draws wolverine's mask is a bit off, but oh well. oh, and there is NO way that he's going to be able to keep a monthly schedule. anyway, on with the story.

the issue starts with logan commenting on this dream he's having. in the dream, some "lupines" are fighting, and though he doesn't know why, he knows it's important. what's even more important is the fact that sabretooth is now a full fledged x-man, something logan's obviously not that happy about. the rest of the issue is literally, all-out-balls-to-the-walls action. and it's better for it. if there's something bianchi CAN do, it's action scenes, and loeb's smart for writing to bianchi's strengths. i haven't read an action packed issue like this in a long time, in any book. good comic book fun.

but loeb cuts it with why exactly they're fighting. and why they always do this dance. it's shown that when logan's "healing up", he sometimes has flashbacks. when creed almost chokes him to death, logan flashes back to his time with silver fox, and her murder by creed. he remembers that creed said something to him then: "quod sum eris". when he finally comes to, he asks creed about what he meant. creed says it's latin for, "i am what you will be". inbetween punches, creed explains to logan that that's their connection: no matter what logan does, or doesn't do for that matter, he will eventually become creed. the issue ends with logan about to pop his claws in creed's throat.

now, what's interesting about this, is what creed meant. will logan become "like creed"...like, a murderous rapist? or did he mean that logan will become creed. like, creed is wolverine from the future? that latter makes more sense when you think about it.

just why do they fight all the time? as wolverine says, they're not brothers, or fathers and children. they're not clones. so what draws them to each other? perhaps creed really is logan, and by killing logan he can end his own suffering.

i don't know. to be honest, i don't care. i enjoyed this issue, and i'll probably pick of the rest of the arc.

oh crap. i forgot. McGUINNESS!!

the second story is a retelling of wolverine's first appearance. logan gives his commentary, which is genuinely funny and entertaining, inbetween the exchanges involving the battling hulk and wolverine. it's all for fun, and a chance for McG to flex his muscles and get fans excited about his run on ultimates (which looks like it will never happen).

one interesting thing to note:

logan's memory is interupted by the image of ultimate hulk ripping ultimate wolverine apart (the famous yu drawing). he immediately comes to, and wonders what that was. a dream? a memory?

hmm...is there going to be an ultimate/616 crossover in the future, or is this just loeb and McG teasing and winking at the fans?

also, something to note: jeph loeb loves writing comic books, and it shows.

Legion of Superheros #26 - Whoa. Seriously cool ending. I really like Supergirl on this book, and I'll be sorry to see her go. 8/10

Moon Knight #7 - This book is crunchy street level goodness. Really brutal book.

Punisher War Journal #3-a book with the CW logo on it worth buying.Gets into the history of Frank as a young soldier and when he encountered Cap.As much as I have liked this book,it's had this kind of obligation to CW since it started.Now that CW is out of the way,the series can really get going.I have high hopes for this book,and so far Fraction is doing a great job.

Silent Dragon #1-6-Yu is amazing.Why didn't I get this earlier?First 10 pages got me hooked already.

Thought about getting Wolverine #50,going to wait it out before I add another title,even though I like Loeb.

Loeb on Wolvie today? Uggggh, I guess I'll pick it up. I'm not even that big of a Loeb fan, but it could be good. Not real huge on Bianchi interiors, his Detective covers aren't even that great, something is usually off about the torso or chest, proportionally.

I'm talking myself out of it.

Some people pick up books on charatcers they don't like because of the great art, but yor doing it because you like the writer. If you don't like the character, why the hell would you enjoy reading anything by anyone about him?

It's the writers job to make us like the characters. Maybe Loeb brought something to the table, and Brainy wanted to see if it was good enough to eat..

Because Loeb is just that good of a writer.

He took a character I don't give two cents about (Wolverine) and actually wrote an interesting story about him. Go fig...

If the writing continues to be good like this new issue...but unfortunately, most writers make Wolverine out to be an unstoppable monster that they feel the need to throw crazy things at him constantly like blowing him up and burning him to nothing but bones.

It's for that reason I get sick of Wolverine...and if Loeb throws something crazy at him like that...then I'll stop reading his run on the book. I think Loeb is much more talented and has more imagination than that though.
