X-Factor- PICK OF THE WEEK! Raimondi is perfect for this book. His style just fits so well. It's noir, but with a cleaner look. PAD has done wonders with this title. He really makes me love characters that I never even cared about, like Madrox and Monet. 9/10
Wolverine- This arc has potential. A lot of potential. The problem is, it has the potential to be just as good as this issue, but it could also turn out awful. I'm very glad I bought this, but I'm quite uneasy about that opening sequence. I hope Loeb doesn't go for a lame twist. I loved the back-up story, though. The art and coloring were just fantastic. 9/10
Transformers- Ok, I'm really enjoying this. Furman's new take on the classic bots is great. It has a "real-world" feel to it that sets it apart from a lot of other Transformers' series. Can't wait for the next issue. 8/10
Avengers Next- This is just old school fun. If you complain about Marvel's current direction, and you like classic comics, pick up the inevitable digest, please. I want Marvel to keep 'em coming. 8/10
Punisher- I didn't like the fact that Frank just walked out without difficulty. Other than that, another solid issue. The flashback showing Frank's past with Cap was well done. 8/10
Eternals- This might've been my favorite issue of the mini. JR is at the top of his game, and I really liked seeing his Iron Man and Yellowjacket. 8/10
Moon Knight- Mark really has problems. Khonshu is just plain twisted. I like how he's kind of become a supporting character, despite being the personification of Mark's dark side. Spider-Man's presence on the cover is fairly unnecessary, but his small role was still interesting. 8/10
Civil War: The Return- Why? That's my question. This issue was just plain useless. For all the hype, all we really get is what amounts to a preview for a new series. This would've fit in better with the Choosing Sides issue, because the Sentry story was pointless. They could've dropped that easily and just fleshed out the main story. I'm not totally against the Return itself because the death has only been delayed. I might have to try the upcoming series, but I was less than impressed with this. 5/10
I also read a couple trades this week:
Maus vol.1- Yeah, I'm just now reading Maus. Yeah, it's just as good as everyone has told me. Yeah, I can't wait to read the second volume. 9/10
Ultimate Iron Man- Now, I've heard some big bashing of this mini series. But I had a lot of time to kill between classes yesterday, so I read this in our Barnes and Noble in one sitting. To be honest... I didn't hate it. It's very different, but that's the type of thing the Ultimate Universe should do more often. Change things up. The art is fantastic, and I really liked Young Tony. My biggest problem is that there's no ending. Here I was enjoying the story and it ends with a "To be continued"? Big points off for that. 7/10
