'Wandering Earth' China Box Office Could Top 'Avengers 4' And 'Star Wars 9' In America

It's just a matter of time until the Chinese box office takes over the world.

Yeah, staggering how large it has got in such a short space of time. And even if the pace of growth from here on out is much slower than it has been, it’s still going to be considerably faster than a very mature market like the U.S.. China will likely be first to a billion dollar domestic grosser.

Big deal. Any numbers for Chinese movies are probably not 100% accurate anyways. BOM says TWE has made 692,6 million in China. The Numbers says 691,3. The Chinese site english.entgroup.cn says 691,4. As for Extreme Job... well that movie will be gone soon from the list so I don't really care about it.

March is over and as expected the domestic box office did improve a bit, but the year is still quite far behind last year, around $460 million. Feels like things can go either way in April, but 2019 certainly has potential to continue to inch closer. Endgame obviously will have a massive opening just like Infinity War last year. Apart from that you have Shazam and Pet Sematary as perhaps the biggest of the rest of April's releases which at least on paper looks like a stronger line-up than the biggest non-Avengers hits last April; A Quiet Place and Rampage.

In fact, on April 2, AMC sold more tickets in the United States on day one for AVENGERS: ENDGAME than it did for the first day on-sale for all four of these movies COMBINED: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, CAPTAIN MARVEL, BLACK PANTHER and STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

Yeah, Endgame is going to be massive. Apparently it also sold 50% more than Force Awakens in its first day. The predictions I've seen for Endgame ranges from $645 million to $725 million domestically. Personally I now will be more surprised if it makes less than $800 million than if it makes more than that. Might even be able to threaten Force Awakens record. Less convinced if it can reach Avatar for the worldwide record. But I think it will make more than Infinity War and maybe become the second movie to reach $2,5 billion

The reason why EndGame will not beat the The Force Awakens gross of $936,7 mil and will most likely also fail to reach $900 mil or $850 for that matter is because tradiotionally the months of April - May - June have alot of competition compared to the months of December - January - February.

I dont think EndGame will even hit $800 mil domestically even though i think it will open for $290-325 mil.

There will be simply too much competition.

Detective Picachu is projected to open for $90 mil and claim the n1 spot when EndGame will be in its 3rd weekend.

A week later John Wick 3 opens and its projected for a $35 mil opening and a week after that Alladin opens and its expected to gross $50-100 mil.

Thats a lot of competition that will steal from EndGame's potential not allowing it to gross more than $800 mil.

Im estimating EndGame will gross $725-800 mil Domestically despite the expected colossal opening weekend that could even go up to $330 mil.
