Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

Yes (allthough disapointing), and yes.....:cwink:

How can you call a movie that was deemed medicore by the majority of reviews, and has barely met its (printed) budget a success.....YES it is a success in that you enjoyed it, I enjoyed it, but I'm not ignorant enough to think that because I enjoyed it, it is deemed a success, thats just dumb.........and exactly where has it been anywhere near even hinted that a sequel is locked in.....no where.....

Yes, it was a success in that you enjoyed, awesome. And yes, in that you are on the positive side of thinking a sequel is locked. But that was not his question.....

TheAlbafan........whats wrong? You seem angriER since I left. *sigh* I blame myself. If I didn't leave, you would still had your daily dose of Doc and be happy. Don't worry......... I'm back! :doom:

Not angry at all.....:yay:

You were gone?

^^ hey Doc what's up ....................lol.

OK well you have returned to a sad place, FF became a footnote in the tale of the summer which was a tale of Spidey, Transformers, Pirates and Potter. FF was never really part of the conversation after the first week.

Some of us got a little bitter after that.

However I just looked at your avatar and I must say, God is indeed great, his creations wondrous to behold. I tell you a woman is wonderfully made.

Ahhhhh...., the gloom has lifted and surely with your return the spirit of the fair Albafan will lift as well.

I wonder if this film would have done better had it a winter release?

I wouldn't exactly call the downers "trolls" but do wonder why some of them never show up in the thread that Malus has for FF memorabilia and such and contribute something positive. Instead, they tend to dwell on the dark side of things... perhaps they might have been frightened by a solar eclipse as a small child :woot:

If one considers a WW gross of $230 million plus and counting is a failure, then a lot of studios are in BIG TROUBLE. I agree it is disappointing because I maintain that FF2 was a better film than the first and I expected $300 million WW figures.

It's not hard to figure when you remember that fox doesn't get 230 million dollars. They get about 60 % of that.

Oh you'll get no argument from me there. SR was a $ 209 million underachiever, and I blame Singer directly. The Superman costume stunk. The cape looked like the inner lining of a shower curtain. Fox is never going to go for broke on any movie, like they went hog wild with SR. If Fox threw 209 million at this movie, and got this kind of return, the'd have Storys head on a spitt, but $ 130 ? It's not a big deal. It will make a profit in the end, and there will be a 3. Face that fact. Like I said, some here have the mentality of the federal goverment. Throw money at something, and it will get better. :whatever:
So i guess it's SR's fault that FF2 is having a less than stellar run at the box office?

yeah, its a shame. I have a couple of friends that wouldnt see it because of the first one. I tried to convince them that the sequel was alot better than the first, but they wouldnt bite.
It makes me wonder how many other people felt like that.

No. It's because they had an idiot writing the 1st one. Show Frost the entrance to the negative zone, push him in and bolt the door. :woot:

I didn't thik that holdover effect would carry over to this one, but it apparently did. That's 1 reason I think the DVD will do well. I think many said I'll wait this time. I know Fox likes to double dip with the DVD's, but that in my opinion would be a mistake. I think they should put everything possible into the DVD. They have to try to build some goodwill for the 3rd one.

Indeed! :cwink: I still say we will get a part 3. Fox don't want to lose no more of it's Marvel products, especially with DD goign back to Marvel. As much as I hate to say this............but Alba maybe the next Affleck. I mean, she's hot and all.......but something about her doesn't translate to box office success. Now I have to defend myself against the Alba-mafia! :ninja:

^^ I think that for one reason or another Jessica Alba is both loved and hated. She made a statement one time about studio execs needing to get past her hotness. It seemed a curious statement. As she must be aware that in Hollywood, hotness is one of the reasons women are cast.

Women who want to be respected for more than their beauty seem to almost have to avoid films that focus on said beauty.

It is a problem that Jessica seems to have.

What to do, I say nothing, because we are bottled up here on the hype. keeping track of every little number on all the films and living vicariously through their success so the fact that FF2 is only in the top ten has left a lot of us disappointed.

Well I think it is time to take a step back. We had high hopes, but clearly this is all that the FF can be under the stewardship of Fox.

Given that we probably have to be thankful that we got a sequel and are still in with a chance of getting a third film.

and 130 million is still good change, given the fact that from here on out everything is still gravy.

Jessica Alba can take a lot of credit for the success of the franchise so far.

I have decided to call the glass as half full.

FF may not be a part of the conversation right now but who knows, maybe this franchise can turn the table. They owe us two more films after all. Four is the name of the game here, they have 2 more movies to make it up to the fans.

I say Fox owes us (yeah I know they are laughing) and they better deliver.

Thursday's totals are in. FF2 had an a nice little increase and is positioned to come so close to $130... I think it'll do between $375-$400k this weekend, putting it within range. If there are a few theatres left over next week, then it should hit it's budget.

It'd be so nice if all studios would just release the best DVD version at the same time as the the "lesser" DVD versions. I can imagine how pissed fans are that buy Spiderman and FF2 the day it's released and then six months later FF2 1.5 and Spiderman 2.1 comes out... with more deleted scenes and other material.

Carp you really need your sig back! How long is this ban suppose to last?

Untill the powers that be say so. Funny thing is it was suppose to hurt me, but it's hurting others who depended on it.

I know. :( Why did they ban it in the first place? I've seen people with a lot more crazier things in their sigs but they didn't ban them from having a sig. SHH justice for you.
