Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

The Simpson's looks to do extremely well, which I am glad of considering it is possibly the best film of the summer. A 30 million opening day should lead to a 70-75 million opening weekend so 100 mil domestically is a lock.

True, I stated the 100 m a few weeks ago, and few agreed with me at the time.......its so nice to even be close to right.....lol

Indeed...but I'm sure your more right than wrong most of the times.

I am glad to see that Fox has had some quality films this summer. With ROTSS, DH4 and The Simpson's Movie, well...I've really enjoyed what Fox has had to offer this summer.

I love it when you are in denial.

Speaking of DENIAL, and CARP MAN in the same sentence...

Potter is on pace for a ~49% DROP this week. What happened to the increase you predicted? :oldrazz:

Potter's : $241.1 million @ 18 days, or end of third weekend
Transformers: $248.5 million @ 18 days, $262.9 at end of it's third weekend

Are you still in denial about Transformers beating out Potter or have the obviously hard facts set in yet? Now where's my cookie?

I'm not a Simpsons fan either. It got old on me fast. However if I had a choice between seeing TF's or The Simpsons movie, well you know which one I'd go see. I am glad to see it doing well. I'm 52 years old. Have been out spoken, and have no problem telling it as I see it, all my life. I'll tell you where to go, where to get off, and what you can do with your self after you get off. I'm not pc, and never will be. Just the way I am. I grew up in a rough neighborhood, and you had to stand up for yourself, and not be pushed around, or you'd be dead, and I've carried that attitude thru my whole life.

"no problem telling it as I see it" LOL... the problem with that is you see it in such a manner that is usually completely skewed from how everyone else see's it. Your justification of growing up in a rough neighborhood has nothing to do with how you act on these forums.

Well, considering The Simpsons Movie´s performance, it looks like there goes the "Fox doesn´t have anything bigger this year" notion.

Totally. Unnecessary.

Anyway, I hate to bring up Carp's sig again but why not put him on probation? Seriously, I depended on Carp for that. You are hurting other hypesters not just him.
On another note.........Carp you managed a walmart for 31 years?! How old are you?!

I remember...and I thought you were being crazy :woot:

I cant beleive its actually making so much money, I love the Simpsons but I didn't know people wanted to see it that bad. It looks funny though...Spider-pig hehe
Btw, FF2 should make 130 million by Sunday/Monday, its getting its budget back and it still has a few markets to open in internationally. I dont think its that much of a flop, concidering FOX released it during the busiest summer so far in the new millenium.

Some Friday estimates are in.

TSM :

Domestic: $29,100,000 100.0%+ Foreign: n/a 0.0%= Worldwide: $29,100,000

TF's :

Domestic: $276,234,000 58.9%+ Foreign: $192,437,683 41.1%= Worldwide: $468,671,683

HP :

Domestic: $229,651,000 39.5%+ Foreign: $351,300,000 60.5%= Worldwide: $580,951,000

TSM : 29.1 million
TF's : 3.2 million
HP : 4.945 million.

It appears I was mistaken. :oldrazz: But I'm not affraid to make outlandish predictions. I look at it like WD-40. It's called WD-40, because on the 40th try, they got it right. So I may be right someday, then you will all bow at my feet, and kiss my ring. :wow: or I may bend over and let you kiss something else , but at least I'm not affraid to try.

Wow, now they're predicting up to 70 million this weekend for The Simpsons Movie:
From Deadline Hollywood Daily:
20th Century Fox's official Friday estimate shows The Simpsons Movie made $30 million Friday -- or what the studio hoped its toon would make all weekend -- and could have an $80 million weekend. That's more than Transformers made on its opening day and best single day this summer, and good enough for The Simpsons to slot into the Hollywood's Top 17 opening days of all time (right behind the $30.1 mil of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones).

^^^ Leave it to homer and Bart to pull something this huge, I tell you as Albafan said first and others agreed (i think) the Simpsons is an institution. It is such a low keyed cartoon sitcom but it is so well known that I am not surprised at how it has done.

Well at least you admit you're wrong 39/40 times. :cwink: Okay well I'm officially done arguing about Transformers and Potter. Bring on Bourne Ultimatum!

I'm officially done talking about Transformers and Potter in this forum. I will never bring up either of those movies, unless it's just to compare them to FF in some manner. :) I just *HAD* to make sure Carp knew I had been right all along about Transformers and Potter prior to either of their releases. :)

‘The Simpsons Movie’ w/$29M Friday; all-time 16th-best opening day & all-time #2 animated opening; $70M 3-day is likely!; 'No Reservations' #5, Lohan #9, 'Caddy' #10; 'Rescue Dawn' w/strong expansion

by Steve Mason

SATURDAY MORNING: Friday morning, I published my Final Weekend Tracking column calling for a $20M+ Friday and a $60M+ opening weekend for The Simpsons Movie (Fox). Late Friday, I went online with $28M for opening day and $67M for the 3-day. After some conversations this morning, I expect the Studio Estimate to be $29M.

ALL-TIME TOP 20 OPENING DAYS
16. The Simpsons Movie - $29M

ALL-TIME TOP 5 ANIMATED OPENING DAYS

1. Shrek the Third - $38.4M
2. The Simpsons Movie - $29M

ALL-TIME TOP 15 OPENING DAYS FOR A TV ADAPTATION

1. The Simpsons Movie - $29M

There is no doubt that this movie is frontloaded, but how frontloaded? I’ve been working the phones this morning, and the guesses range from a 10% drop to a 30% drop. A 10% Saturday drop would put the opening weekend over $70M and possibly as high as $75M. A 30% day 2 drop would likely mean $65M-$67M. I’ll be tracking the movie all day and night, and I should have the drop nailed by 10p pacific. For now, I’m raising my 3-day target to $70M.

EXCLUSIVE FANTASY MOGULS EARLY 3-DAY ESTIMATES
1. The Simpsons Movie (Fox) – $70M [$70M cume]
2. I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry (Universal) – $18.2M [$70.7M cume]
3. Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix (Warner Bros) – $16.7M [$241.4M cume]
4. Hairspray (New Line) – $15.8M [$59.5M cume]
5. No Reservations (Warner Bros) – $11.5M [$11.5M cume]
6. Transformers (Dreamworks/Paramount) - $11.3M [$284.3M cume]
7. Ratatouille (Buena Vista) – $6.9M [$179.3M cume]
8. Live Free or Die Hard (Fox) – $4.5M [$124.2M cume]

Well I've actually only given two predictions one was with FF 2, and I was horribly off on that one, and then The Simpsons, so maybe I'll be batting 500...lol

I can only wish those numbers for FF3  (with a holiday release its possible). I thought FF2 was going to make 160-170 million domestic...I think that the smaller movies have been making more profit this summer. I want to watch Simpsons, once, and Sunshine...and I'm starting to lose interest in the big budget blockbusters.
