Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

It looks like FF3 will happen, so all this becomes moot pretty soon.

This movie cost more than Hulk and is gonna make about the same at the box office. I wouldn´t expect Fox to be in such a rush for a sequel.
Not quite. Hulk cost $ 137 mil and made $ 245 mil. FF 2 cost $ 130 mil and should make over $ 300 mil. But, yes, it is a disappointment. The chances for a sequel rest heavily on how it does at the international box office.

I agree. It may or may not happen. Heck we dont yet if S.R. is getting a sequel, and it made 390 mill W.W.

Marketing, production, and distribution all together it might've very well cost more than The Hulk. The movie made $245 million worldwide, did well on DVD, and apparently made a fortune off merchandise. Yet Universal refused to make a sequel.

Instead it had to be five years and Marvel making the movie instead after Universal let it go.

We aren't at the end of the box office run for FF2 yet, so it's too premature for online geeks to make pronouncements.

Die Hard 4 is out in the UK this weekend; until then FF2 is on the most times a day. Whether Transformers makes a big impact, I don't know - I'm not rushing to see it, or Die Hard 4 for that matter.

Why do you say that, do you have inside studio info? :ninja:

Not until Fox announces it, then and only then it becomes a moot point. Till then we can make all the online geeky pronouncements we like. :D

Guys, let´s put the fanboyism bias aside for a moment. I liked SR, I disagree with those who say it "bombed", but I can admit that the movie was a disappointment for the studio. Now, FF2 is not a bomb either, but if you think Fox is not disappointed with these numbers, you´re way off. This movie cost more than Hulk and is gonna make about the same at the box office. I wouldn´t expect Fox to be in such a rush for a sequel.
Well put.

I feel the same, both movies bombed..not so much, but the studios being disappointed- indeed.

First of all, why do you care?

Second, yes some here do have inside sources, that have proven to be very valuable with information.....

And I'll take a geeky fanboys pronouncement over anything you have to offer on this thread....

Yea, but it took 50 years to make it, and it cost $ 265 million. Big difference spending $ 265, and $ 130. When all the beans are counted there will be a 3rd. It still has 20 markets to open in overseas, It's allread made more than half the 1st films WW #'s. If 195 is correct WW. Have to wait for Mojo. Has $ 135 million more to go to reach FF's WW #'s, so everything is fine. :cwink: Disapointing ? Depends on your point of view. Bomb ? No way in hell.

First of all, why do you care?....
I stated this already why I care...
Go back a few of my posts and you can read why.

The geeky statement was I making light of X-Maniac remark^ It was a joke.

If you want me to leave just say it, I have no problems leaving this thread.
Just don't make it your own personal bias reason to kick me out of this FF2 forum.

Nuff said.

hey carp, what happened to your sig with the B.O totals?

it was a good way to stay update.

Well, I saw Transformers. I was surprised at the small audience for a 4:00 show: There were maybe 20 other people in there, and it's only showing on 2 screens. Not at all the crowd I expected. Where were all the rabid Transformers fans? By comparison, Spidey 3 was a madhouse at a 1:00 showing on its opening day - and school was still in session.

When it was over, my son and I snuck into the last few minutes of FF2. Just so happened we walked in right as the Surfer faces the fiery image of Galactus. (Which just gets more obvious every time I see it.)

One thing that was driven home to me is how pedestrian the action scenes in FF2 are compared to the stunning mega-action in Transformers. There's just no comparison in my mind.

But seeing the post-Galactus scene, that really nice crane shot that spins around the four of them and cuts in and out as they hug in various combinations...I realized that I'd rather sit through FF2 a dozen more times than watch Transformers again.
Not because Transformers wasn't fun, or didn't deliver.

FF2 has its share of shortcomings, but by God it just has more heart.

I couldn't have possibly cared less about the human characters in Transformers, except for the lead. I found the other characters shallow and empty. Nothing there. It wasn't difficult for Optimus Prime and Bumblebee to seem more real to me. Even John Turturro seemed like he was phoning it in.

As the credits rolled, my son and I stayed for the mid-credits reveal of the Surfer's survival, so I got a good look at the size of the audience.
There were at least 15 people in there.

Not bad for a movie that's "run its course." :yay:

Well, in reality, it doesn't matter if I think you should be here or not.......has nothing to do with bias.....I'm fine with all opinions along the spectrum from people that come here to talk about a movie they have seen and either enjoyed or didn't......they have something to add to the forum, no matter what their opinion might be......your bias is quite obvious....but that discussion would again take us off-topic.....and that would be your motive, not mine....moving on.....continue your discussion.....such as it is....:yay:

Wow, you must live in some remote region away from the rest of civilization who only came to your region to see Spider-Man 3.:ninja: I saw Transformers today at 4:30, came 30 minutes early, and the entire theater was packed before the previews had even started. Some people couldn't find seats and had to leave.

Anyway, with that said, now with Die Hard, Ratatouille, and Transformers out, Rise of the Surfer is about to sink faster than the Titanic, and I mean the boat, not the movie!

Nope. Same multiplex that had 4 theaters packed all day for Revenge of the Sith and Spidey 3. In fact the manager said the three showings last night didn't bring in half what Spidey 3 and Pirates 3 did for their sneak showings.
The next few days will tell the tale, though.

I predict Transformers will perform well through this weekend and then sink like a rock.

Hmm. I just noticed the story for Transformers is credited to none other than John Rogers.

John CATWOMAN Rogers.

I think that's very true,i haven't seen TF yet but even just seeing SM3 it made FF2's sequences look fairly plain and ordinary

As above can't say if i share this view of TF but i do agree that was a great shot:up:

My motive? no, you make it seem that way every time I post here, even though I told you other wise many times.

It's just because you have a huge problem in me posting here about a movie I haven't seen yet.
If that's your only hang up, maybe I should just say I am going to watch the movie and everything would be fine.

BTW, It does matter what you think, your a mod, So when you say "maybe you should leave" and so forth to me. I have to obliged.

But hey your right about one thing, we're talking this off topic and it's not fair to the others here.

If this movie has fanboy support in an area it will do well, if it doesn't, you have your experience. I said it before and I'll say it again, outside of the fanboys this has no appeal to anyone. And I just read the whole movie on Moviespoiler, and I was like huh ? It appears to have lots of action, but very shallow characters.

I'm not here to bash Transformers but I still can't get excited about this concept.

Perhaps Trey Parker and Matt Stone were right about Michael Bay.

Ah come on. They spent $ 128 million more for Spider-Man 3. You can't expect the same kind of special effects as Spider-Man 3. Even your smarter then that.
