Comics Brand New Day Discussion Thread

Whoa Whoa, all we're trying to say is that, yes Gwen was Peter's first love, but MJ is Peter's TRUE love. She's been in the comics since issue 42, and her and Peter have been together since the 70's and married in the 80's. Mary Jane is the sole reason Peter survived a lot of sticky situations like being burried underground.

Gwen fans need to realize the girls been dead for over 30 years and Peter's been married to two decades.

And despite those facts, they clearly show that Peter still has a thing for Gwen during his marriage to MJ... like in Spider-Man: Blue, and the Digger arc during in JMS' run...

And those are just two quick examples...

Mary Jane fans need to realize that Gwen was first at bat when it came to who Peter was going to marry... before the she was tragically killed.

Why do I need to realize that? How would you feel if I dismissed your viewpoint so easily and say that MJ fans need to accept the new reality and get over it. I don't think that, and I think both statements are equally insulting.

Exactly... :yay:

Betty Brant was Peter's "first" love... if you wanna get technical, and Gwen was Peter's true love... as he reached to MJ during the last part of Sins Past, he still utters Gwen's name... you can't put a label on what Gwen meant to Peter Parker.

And also going on technicalities, while they dated from about 1975 to 1978, Mary Jane then disappeared from the books until 1983/84, and they only started to date again just prior to the wedding in 1987... so please don't throw lines like "her and Peter have been together since the 70's and married in the 80's" because it makes it seem like they were "together" for many many years prior to the marriage, which was NOT the case.

:yay:

True...and we do know they'll retcon it, again, only a matter of time.

Just too bad we have to waste all this time tho. It sickens me to think of that, the wasted time.

They could have just launched a new series for single, non married specific stories (not like they have any tho)...or an alternate ultimate....instead of experimentingin the main book....experiment elsewhere so that regular spidey could've remained just that. OTherwise, when they do retcon this magical mess....all this OMD/BND mess was nothing but a waste of time really.

Either that, or an experiment in Spidey-Arcs-to-the-extreme. :csad:

Congratulations. You're offically smarter than Joe Q.

Dude, all he did was take Betty on a couple dates. Whoopdedo...

And MJ is offically Spider-Man's Lois. Deal with it.

I think that's also debatable, given the events of House of M and Son of M.

And you're using JMS as valid referance? :oldrazz:

Hahahahahaha.... I love it when "Spider-Man Experts" show their ignorance... lol... :woot:

In a very short period of time, Peter and Betty really fall for one another... read the first dozen issues of ASM... why in fact, look up the splash page of ASM #11 where it clearly states "Is Spider-Man Destined To Lose Betty Brant, the Girl He Loves?"... in said issue, Peter finds Betty (who had taken off because of the mix-ups with Blackie & her brother), and when she is surprised that he'd been looking for her, Peter states "I couldn't let you just walk out of my life! You... you mean too much to me!!", AND THEN he decides to tell her his secret identity after they get back to New York... something he never really decided to do with any other "love interest" other than the Black Cat.

Now the reality is that he just had a teenage crush, but believe it or not, True Believer, Betty Brant is considered Peter Parker's "first" love...

:yay:

Not anymore. Deal with that.

You know... I don't think Peter is really meant to have a "Lois"...

It's like whenever people debate whenever Peter lost his virginity, the Gwen fans all hail the end of ASM #99, and the MJ fans hail the end of ASM #149, and the Black Cat fans get all puffed up as well...

I'm not going to deny that Peter and Mary Jane are in fact very much in love (or at least, they used to be), but these are comics and some people just have a hard time dealing with the ever-lovin' changes that come forth from reading funny books...

If things were meant to be, Peter would have married Gwen in the 70's, and Mary Jane would be nothing more than a footnote in Spider-lore... but things happened and things changed... that's what happens in comics, and that's what happened at the end of OMD... did I like it? Of course not... but it's not the end of the world, and the end result is some of the better Spider-Man comics I've read in 25 years (barring afew exceptions)

Hmm, you're saying it as if all comics are the same redundant bull*****.
Marvel and DC made a brand business out of it.
Doesn't mean there aren't any more better graphic novels left out there.

Yeah, that is true, but Peter moved on to the next best thing... MJ. (at least he didn't become a necrophile like in The Other: The I can't believe it's much more crappier edition.) Cause having a necrophiliac superhero is a real good example to children, like that Pedophile at Xavier's School whose skin turns into Organic Metal... I'm not pointing any fingers but he's big, like a Colossus...

But our Saint Gwen SLEPT with Norman... and bore his Goblin Children... so that kinda hurts her character...

Our Saint MJ knew about the goblin sex and kept it hidden for a while. Also she forced Peter into accepting the One Moronic Deal, that has screwed up with continuity and splitted the spider-fans in three camps: The ones who are insulted by this Spidey rape. The ones that are willing to ignore the rape in order to keep reading. And lastly the so called new child readers...

Somehow it seems that Gwen was the lesser of these two evils, but unfortunately, she's dead. I for one wouldn't want to see her back, cause Marvel would rape her character just like they did to both Peter and Mary Jane...

You know, talking about all this makes me wonder something, how the heck does Norman Osborn get away with all this??? Norman has done soo much crap in his life-time, how is he not locked up somewhere in the negative zone? Instead they make this psychopath, the leader of a government team?? Come on man, its not fair, he kills gwen, kills countless other people, has tried to kill all of Peter's supporting cast on more than a few occasions, everyone knows the green goblin is norman osborn. I never understood how he was able to get away with it all.

Okay, first of all I KNOW we're talking about two comic book characters here, so I haven't gone off the deep end! :woot:

But if you look at marriage as the Bible says God looks at marriage (and according to the Bible, God created marriage) than married is married is married...no Mephisto about it.

Yes, marriage is the hot topic in another thread as well, that I have addressed already.

Is Joe Christian?

People actually debate this??????

That's quite possibly the funniest thing I have ever heard.

Yeah, I really, really try to avoid discussions like that. It makes feel like the Simpson's Comic Guy. (Although, you could argue that, to the "outside" world, every single discussion here is "like that.")

{comicbookguy} But, Aquaman, you cannot marry a woman without gills. You’re from two different worlds? Oh, I’ve wasted my life {/comicbookguy}

They only did that 'flashing back to gwen' stuff to undermine peter and MJs marriage and because Gwen's death is embedded into the spider-man mythos.

Also how can you say that the girl he first dated was his first love?? They really don't equate.

AND I know they weren't aimed at me and usually I find your posts top notch, but those smileys are really patronising and I find your tone quite defensive. Also... I've kinda skimmed over the opic here. -- They havn't let Slott bring Gwen back have they? :O That'd destroy the gwen stacy-spider-man mythos!!!

And no... they are not bringing Gwen back to the best of my knowledge... it had been discussed, but some of the new writers felt it would be "too much".
