Arrow Brandon Routh IS Ray Palmer/The Atom

I would love to see a Ray/Felicity/Barry team-up episode. Just the three of them being awkward and geeky together, and maybe in between helping to catch a bad guy. They all have such great personalities, it would be a joy to see them work off each other.

Going through the wiki information about Atom, I came across on how Deathstroke was actually responsible for killing off someone close to Ray in the comics as he is in the "Arrow" mythology. If I'm not mistaken, in the comics, Slade is responsible for the death of one of Palmer's proteges.

I'm actually hoping that we'll get a chance to see Ray (fully suited) confront Slade in the future and see how he'd react at the chance of getting back at the guy that's responsible for his fiance's death.

Arrow suffered a dip in quality the same year that one of their original executive producers left to develop a spinoff series. I don't think that's a coincidence and I don't want Arrow to (potentially) get even worse for the sake of a series I'm not even interested in watching.

Fan art. Looks cool, imo.

I thought that may be the real thing for a second but not bad at all.

I like the idea of an Atom spinoff.

I just hope people don't see it as an Ant-Man ripoff.

Brandon Routh kind of reminds me of Josh Radnor in a way.

Also, if there is an Atom spin-off, then they should get Brandon's wife, Courtney Ford in it. She's hot.

I can't get excited for the idea of a spin-off based on what we've seen thus far. I feel like the season would be just the same if Atom (or Blue Beetle if they got him) never showed up.

Well, the writers have yet to really show their hand with Palmer/Atom just yet since we haven't seen his tech at work and him in action yet. It's too early to pass judgement on the idea of an Atom show.

I could already see how the opening/intro monologue would start out for the "Atom" show....

"My name is Ray Palmer. A few years ago, the love of my life was taken before my eyes. Now, I must use my larger than life persona to become the smallest person in the world. I am... THE ATOM."

Eh, I was feeling the idea of a Flash show with hiw little of Barry we got on Arrow before he even got his powers. So...

Different beast though, everyone knew what a Flash show could be. With Atom we have no idea what the tone or any well known stories they can adapt.

Also izombie got a similar monologue my name is Liv

I'm going based off the character as presented on the show. If I thought Barry was boring, I wouldn't have been excited for his show. For Ray, I feel nothing.

Nah, if they go this route, they should satirize their own cliche at least a little. Give it an upbeat, cheerful tone: not the earnest heroism of the Flash intro, but something more whimsical, like he's having fun. "My name is Ray Palmer, and I invented miniaturization. Do you know how useful being able to shrink is? Lots. A microscope is a vacation itinerary, you can travel through the telephone lines, and every crack of the city contains a world to explore. Oh, and I also get the chance to fight evil and save the city from less ethical inventors. I love science."

It really appears evident at times that they (producers) wanted to use Ted Kord (Blue Beetle) instead of Ray Palmer/Atom. I mean rich billionaire interested in developing technology to fight crime, let alone a suit that seems to be modeled more after the style that Kord would go for instead of Palmer from the comics...that's more Kord. Plus, no evidence to show that Palmer is even interested in wanting to "shrink".

Didn't Golden Age Atom have a suit like the one they're describing?

However, you are correct that, originally, they wanted Ted Kord and were told no.

Yeah. It ****ing sucks, imo. Turning Ray Palmer into Iron Man is just dull. It would be a shame.

I'm thinking that might end up being an unexpected and unitended side effect of him using the white dwarf star matter as a power supply. Those kinds of surprises happen all the time, even in real life science, like the discovery of Penicillin, for example.

Interesting theory; I could actually see that happening especially if Brandon ends up getting his own spin-off, with his character Ray being presumed MIA after the "side effect" that you just mentioned on Arrow and returning for the first time in his new show...just like how Barry was struck by lightning in "Arrow" and was in a coma until his own show premiered.

Brandon said he hasn't minded seeing the Twitter reactions from the latter group.

"It's all in fun. It's good that people are reacting. Whether it's good or bad towards Ray, it's positive [for the show] and we're creating some kind of commotion and feeling, which is positive," he said. "I've definitely gotten more positive than negative support."

But, the actor said he can completely understand those who feel Oliver and Felicity are meant to be.
