Arrow Brandon Routh IS Ray Palmer/The Atom

I can't say Ray Palmer has been my favorite thing about season 3, but he has been a pleasant surprise. They easily could have gone the route of Isabel Rochev, but they've largely avoided making it feel like the same thing.

The Atom is awesome, and Brandon Routh isn't a bad actor. that said... I'm trying to like Ray Palmer on this show, but all I see is Daniel Shaw coming onto the show to add tension to the will they/won't they relationship dynamic of the leads...basically just staling the relationship we know is bound to happen.

I fear sitting through a recap of early season 3 Chuck so much, I cringe every time Palmer flirts with Felicity. We even had the moment where the lead chose not to be with the girl for a noble and stupid reason, which he will easily decide was the wrong choice as soon as he sees the girl with Routh. And the girl is so mad at the lead, she goes running to Routh (in this case it's just for a job...so far).

When did this show turn into a bizarro world version of Chuck, where the lead male is the assassin, and the computer nerd is the hot blonde? Would that make Dig Casey and Roy Morgan (he is the shortest guy on the show)?

I wouldn't worry about this if the show wasn't a CW production, but with the CW's focus on ridiculous angst-ridden romance, I can't help it.

I just hope they don't Iron Man it so much that they can only afford to have him be in-suit for 1 minute the whole season.

There's a lot of things I don't like on this season of Arrow, but Ray Palmer ranks up there as one of the worst aspects for me. I just don't see why Palmer/Atom had to be brought in or what he will ultimately contribute to the show, other than creating an unnecessary love traingle between himself, Felicity, and Oliver.

Every time Ray Palmer is on screen, it feels like time is being wasted which could be spent on other more important things.

I like Ray, but so far, he's mostly been a glorified comic relief character. They have been building towards something with him, and I think they're doing a fine job of it, but I can understand other fans' frustrations.

Routh only looked about the size of Amell when he was doing the Salmon Ladder and had his shirt off. He definitely looks smaller than Henry Cavill. I'm seeing Routh less and less as Superman. I don't think even with his face without glasses, he looks that much like Supes.

I think his face is fine, but he's definitely not all that muscular (at least right now, I haven't seen Superman Returns so I don't know if he was more buff then). He's certainly less muscular than Amell is at the moment. I'm not convinced Superman has to be super-muscular (he is an alien, after all), but I concede it's a strength of Cavill in selling the role.

Routh will always look like and be Superman to me. IMO I think he was a great Superman in a great Superman movie. But I'm also glad we have the movies we have now and glad Routh is still finding work. Although I would've have loved if he played Superman here and have them set Arrow and Flash in the Donner/Singer world.

I agree that the way they've used him so far makes it feel like a waste. And I still get the Ted Krod vibe from him instead.

I don't see how that's a problem since Routh is portraying a DC character unlike Superman in physique and personality on this show.

They need to upgrade Ollies costume. If true and Palmer gets the best costume they've done. Ollie will have the 3rd best costume on his own show.

Haven't they said that Ollie will be getting a new costume later this season?

I love Ray Palmer on this show, and I've never liked him in anything else. He's nice, funny and trying to save the world with his brilliant mind. I don't know what is there not to love about this guy.

So, I take it we'll just see him in the suit, but with no shrinking.

He's been very nice, but he's also been quite creepy.

Who knows? They did mention the white dwarf star matter.

Yeah, but they said stuff like that would happen on The Flash. So, I guess Ray will head on over to that show at some point.

They also said the Flash/Arrow crossover made them reconsider superpowers and the fantastic not appearing on Arrow and they no longer feel like it'd detract from the shows tone (kinda surprised they didn't realize that after season two involved a bunch of supersoldiers tearing up the city, but that's just me).
