Captain Marvel Brie Larson is Captain Marvel!

After the RT bombardment, the next stop in the Captain Marvel smear campaign was to make March 8th "go see Alita" day. Because according to these mostly male trolls, Alita is feminism done right (eg, the people on that press tour kept their mouths shut).
Oh right, gotya. I might also go see Alita on the 8th, right after Cap Marvel!

The anti-Captain Marvel crowd has been begging people to go watch Alita instead of Captain Marvel for the last two weeks.

It's basically their way of proving that their irrational hatred for CM isn't rooted in sexism... because obviously there's nothing sexist about using a female-led movie to bash another one. THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE

The fact that Alita is bombing domestically proves that their silly little movement is failing, though. Not exactly surprising
These campaigns seem to push the films they want to bring down to box office records while the films they are supporting seem to struggle. Maybe they should try their tactics the other way round.

I'll be seeing both near the same time. Captain Marvel will be Sun late and I'll go see Alita again on Monday.

Personally, I think it is incredibly stupid to even do any kind of boycott or a push to watch one over the other. So far, I've only seen Alita (four times) and I love it. It has a great character who comes from a point of vulnerability to great strength. I felt the story getting her from point A to B was damn good. I expect the same from Captain Marvel when I finally see it. Will I love it as much? Who knows. I haven't seen it yet.

But it's a terrible problem when idiots get up onto their soap boxes and then try and suck everything they see into their rambling, dysfunctional arguments.

In the end, it is possible to like or even love both. There is room for more than one movie at the box office.

P.S. If you haven't seen Alita yet, go see it. I think it's incredible.:D

Where are fans discussing this alleged controversy involving Larson? There seems to be an underground movement to derail her online and all I've found is this??

I was thrilled you requested me to interview
you. I thought, ‘This is game-changing’. It’s the biggest opportunity I’ve had. Nobody usually wants to take a chance on a disabled journalist.
I’d love to know what your particular reasons were.
‘About a year ago, I started paying attention to what my press days looked like and the critics reviewing movies, and noticed
it appeared to be overwhelmingly white male. So, I spoke to
Dr Stacy Smith at the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, who put together a study to confirm that. Moving forward, I decided to make sure my press days were more inclusive. After speaking with you, the film critic Valerie Complex and a few other women of colour, it sounded like across the board they weren’t getting the same opportunities as others. When I talked to the facilities that weren’t providing it, they all had different excuses.’

It's her choice, man, whatever. I actually support her for going out of her way to get interviewed by a female, black, disabled journalist, but why are fans reacting against it?? Are these guys even comic book movie fans?

Can someone please explain to me in just a few words what's the deal with the 'trolling' trying to put the movie down? I don't understand what is going on and I don't even know how to ask the question.
Brie Larson made a comment at a press event calling for more diversity in film press/criticism because not all movies are made with white men as their target demo (and a recent study showed that industry is even less diverse than Hollywood), and that, combined with Brie's previous pro-feminism/diversity comments sparked a narrative in a certain demographic that "Brie Larson Hates White Men" or "Brie Larson Doesn't Want White Men Watching Her Movie." So an extreme group from that demographic led a campaign to drive down Captain Marvel's "Want to See" score, just as they did with Black Panther last year, and started spamming the comments with a whole bunch of anti-Brie, "anti-SJW" stuff. So Rotten Tomatoes, admitting they've become increasingly susceptible to trolls, revamped their system to remove that score and comments until movies have been released.

I'd watch both. The one I wouldn't watch is Dark Phoenix, whenever that one's out.

Lawd, now these trolls are spreading a conspiracy that Disney paid all the theaters to show ONLY Captain Marvel this weekend because they aren't seeing showtimes for anything else at their local theaters. NEWSFLASH: That's how the movie theater business works - most decide week-to-week what movies they're keeping beyond Thursday, so the only movies they'll have definite showtimes for ahead of time until they do are the ones that are opening that weekend. This happens on Every. Single. Week. Not that they'd care about this little fact.

The one guy from Australia did finally post a video correcting his misinformation but he's really one who got the whole "Disney is forcing CM on us and won't allow other movies in the theaters" started to begin with. Cat is out of the bag at this point and trolls are just running with it by using it the same way they did with Brie's comments being taken out of context. Sometimes the internet is just a dumb place.

Yeah.
I heard about that.
They are also saying (or they were a few days ago) that Fandango is ONLY selling tickets for Captain Marvel on March 8th AND NO OTHER MOVIE.
The haters have gone Insane,
I hope CM STEAMROLLS to victory.

Even the guy doing Odin's Movie Blog corrected that since he used the work in a movie theater and knows how that business is run in the US. In case anyone was wondering, major releases, like CM are reserved rooms in advance. The other movies aren't decided until Monday of the opening week. Curiously enough, that correction video was aired on the Geeks+Gamers Youtube channel.

Damn Youtube's recommended video's, now I see one guy pushing the theory that the
Avengers cast doesn't like working with Brie Larson...

Sounds like the same group of idiots who were trying to push a rumor that Disney was going to completely CGI her out of Endgame because if they didn't the movie would bomb lol. I mean really where do these guys come up with this stuff?

Totally unrelated to the nontroversy, but I just realized that Brie Larson was in Hoot (a book and movie I watched waaay too many times when I was a youngun') and I may or may not have had a slight celebrity crush on her at the time. (Or her character, anyway.) I was wondering why she looked familiar...

I found a way to stop all those youtube channels from showing up on my youtube app. I'm all for opposing views but have 0 tolerance for speaking lies and ignorance.

I'm probably going to skip CM. She doesn't appeal to me as an actress. I used to read comics prolifically and I was never enticed by Ms Marvel. I also dislike how they are artificially making her the most powerful character in the Marvel Universe, which is just painfully incorrect. Planetbreaker Hulk anybody??? Warlock with the infinity stones??? Silver Surfer, Thor, Living Tribunal, Thanos, Galactus etc. It is just ridiculous how far down the list she'd be. But nowadays comicbook lore, story continuity and history is secondary to marketing, mass media and cross segmental commercial appeal etc. From a business perspective I kind of understand it.

As an aside I really enjoyed Alita.
