Captain Marvel Brie Larson is Captain Marvel!

And Aaron Taylor-Johnson. I do not like him as an actor, I think he's borderline unbearable. He's hot though so he has that going for him I guess. Too bad he has the charisma of a shoe.

Moving on...yay Brie.
At least QS is dead and Jane won't be in Thor 3, but ScarJo unfortunately will be back in IWs.

Now this will be the second time Brie will be playing a comic book character in a movie.

I'm happy with this casting. I haven't seen much of Brie Larson's work, other than in United States of Tara, but from all accounts she is a very talented actor.

I have minor quibbles in terms of her age and height, but I had those same concerns with Robert Downey Jnr as Tony Stark and those concerns washed away as soon as I saw the first Iron Man.

I look forward to seeing Captain Marvel (or at least Carol Danvers) in action, which will hopefully be before her solo film. That tactic seemed to work for Wonder Woman (i.e. appearing in Dawn of Justice before her solo / origin film), so it should work for Captain Marvel also.

Ugh, there's only one superhero shipping that I hate more than Carol/Peter, and that's Bruce/Babs. They are both literally teh worst. :cmad:
I'm so glad Holland's age makes it impossible for it to happen, at least in the MCU. I'm so not looking forward to the day when some hack writer comes along and officially makes it a thing in the cb canon.

1. I don't consider sexy and powerful to be mutually exclusive
Ok but unless we're talking about a temptress/seductress type of character I really don't see why "sexy" should even be a priority while designing her costume. At most it should be a side-effect.

But I'm digressing and I don't want to clutter this thread with my ramblings so let's leave it at that. :hehe:

ITA. Lopez's Carol is the ideal version to me (minus how he drew the helmet - I much preferred Dexter Soy's version of that), and I hope that's what they use as the basis for this.
Agree with your agreement.
And speaking of agreeing, I think we can also all agree that as long as movie Carol doesn't look anything like Andrade's take on her, we're all gonna be fine with whatever else we get.

They said it was because she was a military woman, so as a military woman she WOULD have short hair. And my problem with that, coming from a military family and knowing many military women, is that there's this stigma/misconception that in order for women to be taken seriously in the military they have to "man up," sacrifice their femininity and be one of the guys or whatever, and that's just not true at all. Literally NONE of the military women I know have ever felt the need to do this, they all have long hair (that they wear in an up 'do when on duty) and are indistinguishable from any other women when off duty. And I felt their reasoning for doing it into the comics played into that stigma so I wasn't a fan.
Agreed with a lot of this. I'm currently in Marine Corps Reserve. Haven't been in for that long but there's many types of females in the military. There's both women with short and long hair. Most of the women with long hair tie their hair in a bun. Lots of the females where make up too. XD

Not saying I'd want it to happen, but it's not impossible. Larson is only six years older than Holland, which is even less of an age gap than Henry Cavill and Amy Adams.

But in reality, Holland wishes. :o

Ditto. Fantastic performance (and movie).

And I share in the collective annoyance over the stupid delays. The wait for this movie will be unbearable. Having her actually cast just makes it worse, lol.

I know. Right? At first I'm thinking "Just give me some news dammit". Now that I've got some news, I'm more irritable than I was before (and I was pretty irritable before) thinking about the delays and why they can't move the movie up.

The logical side of me says that having Carol in IW1, then Kaboom or its aftermath in CM, and then having her kicking @$$ in IW2 is pretty cool.

Then the irritable me punches the logical me in the face and says "shut the frell up".

We aren't talking about their real ages in the movies.....

Carol Danvers will obviously be different in the MCU than she is in Marvel Comics currently. But she will presumably have the same job as a pilot in the air force. Maybe. They made Jane Foster an astro-physicist.

We need a few PR releases telling us a little bit about what the movie will be about. Of course, we don't get PR releases like that until a year before the movie comes out. And this isn't due out until 2019. Maybe they did reveal things too early.

Maybe Brie Larson as not-yet-powered Carol Danvers will appear in one of the upcoming movies. Hopefully with more to do than Jeremy Renner did in Thor.
There's a lot of potential here that we get to know Carol Danvers before she's exposed to the Psyche-Magnitron, if that's what they will use this time.

I wouldn't be surprised if she gets her powers at the end of IW1, attacking Thanos (in her jet) or something

That's the difference in age between the actors, though, not the characters. In practice, its probably more like a 15 year difference, between Holland playing a character a lot younger than him, and Larson probably playing several years older than herself.

When she's 45 and he's 30, they can totally hook up.

Technically you can say the same thing about Jessica Jones and Peter. She had a huuuge crush on him since they went to high school together but they clearly can't do that cause of the age gap and the likelihood of them ever crossing over. But I do love their relationship in the comics.

It's official! Academy Award Winner Brie Larson is our Captain Marvel :hrt:

Brie looks nice in this photo. This is the kind of red hair I would want Mary Jane to have... if she's ever in Spider-Man in her classic form.

Maybe Brie will wear a cap like this as Carol Danvers?

I hope she isn't a colonel though, but just an airforce captain.

Good to finally have our Carol. I haven't seen Brie in much, just Scott Pilgrim, 21 Jump St & Don Jon, I think, no lead roles. But I've watched some interviews and stuff over the weekend, the Kong SDCC panel, she seems like she'd fit right in with the other MCU leads, the IW press rounds will be fun.

And just because:

Where is the video where she's actually announced as Carol?

Don't even joke about it. :o

21 Jump St
I watched this one recently, her role was unfortunately quite disappointing. Not her fault, all she was given to do was play the generic "quirky" love interest.

Thanks.

Larson is six years older than Holland? How old is Laura Harrier who is playing a teenager?

A lot of my annoyance would definitely be tempered if we got some confirmation that she'd appear in IW1. Knowing I won't actually have to wait 3 years to see her would certainly take the edge off, lol.

Brie Larson being a cute in Skull Island. ♡
