Which James Bond was best?

My I just point out that that's how he's written. Fleming, Amis, Gardner, Benson and Faulks all maintained the cold, emotionless killer. Aside from the deaths of Vesper, Tracy, Kizzy and James he's remained quite stoic.

I know he was like that in the books. My point is, making him like the books is such a waste of talent and versatility for an actor like Daniel craig. Besides, the film makers can make Bond be just about anyway they want him to be. It wasn't until CR that they depicted like he is in the books. I think making Bond more accessible emotionally would best serve Craig if he played him like Timothy Daltons Bond. The Living Daylights is one of the best films in the franchise. Not only that, it could easily work today without being campy like the other films. I hope in the next Bond movie, Bond/Craig shows a little more range; a little more like Dalton.

Dalton has always been my favorite precisely because he was the one who got the character right. He was cold, humorous, uncaring in all the right degrees. Even how he delivered lines was exactly like Fleming described him.

Agreed, Dalton remains my favorite. Then come Connery and Brosnan.

Connery of course. And which movies are the best it's either From Russia With Love or Goldfinger.

Connery is the best. I really like Craig though; if he does a couple more Bond films that are more Casino Royale-like rather than Quantum of Solace-like, this will be a much harder discussion.

I grew up with Brosnan as Bond so I'm used to him, but looking back at the Bond movies he did now, he was really mediocre. GoldenEye was the only actually good one he did, and he wasn't even that great in it. I actually think his best performance might have been The World is Not Enough, even though Denise Richards pretty much single-handedly kills that movie.

I really don't like Dalton or Moore. At all. I did like On Her Majesty's Secret Service though, I think Lazenby is a little bit underrated.

ah... finally someone who favors Charles Bronson!

:hehe:

his bond seems mostly sociopathic. but that makes his caring for vespa all the more poignant.

i do prefer bronson myself. the mix of sophistication, drive and physicality seems to be closest to what bond as the films have depicted him is meant to be, but as said before mixing connery and moore will do that.

Don't worry I mispelled Pierce Brosnan's last name in the polls too.

he's awesome in once upon a time in the west.

Hell yeah he was.

"Bandit: We have 3 horses and 4 men.

Bronson: You bought 2 horses too many"

I know its off subject but I love that movie too much.

Back to the subject I had to go with Connery with Brosnan and Craig tied for second. Connery imo was the best of both worlds, better than Brosnan. People say his Bond was cold or stoic enough. I believe that was a good thing for the movies. It made him more interesting a character. At the same time he was a bit of a cold-blooded killer. He was just more subtle about it than any of the other Bonds imo.

Brosnan and Craig are tied for second because while I also believe Brosnan was the second best of both worlds, his films (other than Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Died) are mediocre. If his films were more conistent he would definitely be second. Daniel Craig is tied with him because while his Bond is the closest to the novels, Quantum of Solace was a bit of a let down, though I don't think its as bad as people say it is.

Of course Connery gets most votes; he was the first one. Personally I never thought he did much with the character, especially not after the three first movies when he's starting to act on routine and its shows that he's becoming more and more bored of the whole Bond-thing. The two last he did (not counting Never Say Never Again which is also best forgotten) was horrible movies. Daniel Craig in Casino Royale was the best performance for me. A shame Quantum of Solace was so much weaker.

Daniel Craig. I love Goldfinger, and Connery is great in it, but I think his schtick gets old after a while.

I enjoy Connery & Brosnan the most, and Brosnan is my favorite.

FYI, the poll has BrosNan spelled wrong.

Dalton was definitely ahead of his time; Daniel Craig should take notes from him.

1. Connery
2. Craig
3. Brosnan
4. Moore
5. Lazenby
6. Dalton

I rank them:

1. Connery
2. Moore
3. Craig
4. Brosnan
5. Dalton
6. Lazenby

I think my top four completely own the role in their respective eras. Not as hot with my bottom two, but nonetheless they offer something.

I'm starting to think moore has to be knocked down a couple slots just for having bond show up like this in a film:

I'd probably take brosnan in his invisible car well below moore in his clown get up on the bond movie moment embarrassment scale.
