:( RIP.

I always enjoyed his appearances on Buffy. Ethan was a such a fun foil for Giles and the gang.

I've been a little out of the loop lately, so this was the first I've heard of this.

I totally agree with you on Ethan being a fun villain to watch on Buffy. Very sad that he's gone.

Now for some happy news! Some drama students in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada recently put on a live re-enactment of Buffy's musical episode, Once More With Feeling.

I'm not only proud of this as a Canadian, but the young lady who directed the play, and played the demon Sweets, also happens to be my niece, and my goddaughter. In fact, I'm the one who got her interested in Buffy in the first place.

I finally started watching Buffy on Netflix. I've finished the first 3 seasons.

I saw Angel from Episode 1 until the end ironically, not knowing much about the background characters. The first episode of Buffy I ever saw, was the Season 3 finale actually, Graduation Day Pt 2, way back when, when Angel premiered right after.

I'm liking Buffy way more than I thought I would. It's amazing to see the growth of Cordelia now that i see how she started out on BtVS when I only knew her as the character on Angel. I need to rewatch Angel after I finish BtVS. I don't think i'd be able to keep track if I tried to watch them simultaneously

Glad that you finally saw that light and brought Buffy into your life.

Thinking about doing a series rewatch in a few weeks. Anyone want to join me?

lemme know when you catch up to season 4 and i'll follow you from there. i'm 2 episodes in, just haven't had time to keep going

in a way i kinda wish these two shows were in separate threads as i like to read a thread before i post in it, and i was spoiled by a few things :/

I'm always up for a re-watch. I'm about to start my Arrested Development re-watch, but that'll be done by the time the new season premieres on the 26th, so I'll have plenty of time for a Buffy one after that. Are you going to re-watch Angel, too? I've always watched the two together, so I've never even seen what the later seasons of Buffy are like without the corresponding Angel eps, lol.

ComicChick, glad you're enjoying Buffy so far! S4 can be a bit of a slog at times, (it would help if you were watching Angel in parallel, imo, since that was the season that the two shows had the most crossover), but it also features my top two all-time favorite episodes as well as several other very entertaining ones. Plus, it gets you to S5, which is awesome, so there's that. Sorry you were spoiled, though. Knowing someone's doing a first-time watch, I'll be sure to use spoiler tags in the near future if we get into any plot-heavy discussions. :yay:

When I first watched Buffy and Angel, I watched all of Buffy first then Angel. On my re-watch, I watched them together so that all the crossovers matched up. It was much better when they were watched in conjunction.

thanks flickchick. i wasn't overly spoiled too much so it's ok

i have seen all the episodes of the Angel series. I watched that from Day 1 ironically enough. i don't know how well I'd do trying to switch between the two shows back and forth. generally when i have time to watch it, i'll watch like 3-5 episodes in a row (while doing other things) and then i don't have time to watch any for a few weeks

Angel and Riley's fight was surprisingly fun. I wasn't even a huge Riley hater like most other people seem to have been, but it was great seeing Angel wipe the floor with him.

Buffy is one of those rare shows that every time I rewatch it, my opinions of the characters and the scenarios they find themselves in change.

As I've gotten older, for example, I've become a lot softer towards Riley and can actually sympathise with the guy. Whereas before my 15/16 year old self just saw him as the *****e standing between Buffy and Angel. :oldrazz: Thus, it was easier to just hate on the guy whenever he did something stupid.

Yeah I don't hate Riley anymore. Though he did annoy me a bit in season 5 but other than that I am fine with him. And every time I watch season 4 I enjoy the episodes more.

I just hate Riley because he embodies the entire season 4 plot that I hate.

spoilered for ComicChick's sake.

I love the idea of the government hunting the monsters too, but to be based on Sunnydale's campus...I mean, come on.

It would've worked much better if they were just a mobile branch of the Initiative instead of the entire thing. Maybe a slight change, but it would've made all the difference to me.

I'm watching Buffy for the first time myself. Almost finished with S6.

I actually went the opposite way, myself. I liked him (not a lot, but I certainly didn't dislike him) when I originally watched Buffy. But when I got older and re-watched Buffy after I bought the big-ass DVD collection, I found myself kind of despising his weakness. By the time they got to the vamp-feeding scene, I was just sitting there going, "Man up, you little b****," especially since he basically does it because he just can't live with the fact that his girlfriend is more physically capable than he is. I still don't hate him--particularly because the season 8 comics showed that he bounced back into kind of a badass--but it's tough for me to watch him in those middle seasons without rolling my eyes.

He's at least the most attractive of Buffy's boyfriends. I still prefer him to the next guy...

He got a little too pathetic near the end though.

LOL, yeah, I never cared for him to begin with, but I was more indifferent to him on my first watch. On more recent viewings, I actively dislike him, for exactly the reason you mentioned, Corp - a lot of his issues seemed to stem from the fact that Buffy was more powerful than him, and he just wasn't ok with that fact, no matter how much he claimed to be.

I was never a "shipper" with this show (preferred Buffy single), but at least Angel and Spike were both perfectly happy to be second fiddle to her.

Pfff, Angel's fiddle totally came into its own and was awesome. I don't even care that that sounds dirty. :oldrazz:

LOL, yes, I agree. But whenever he went back, he was fine with hanging back and letting her call the shots. The one time he wasn't was with the whole Faith ordeal on AtS, and that was because Buffy was a bit off the rails and hellbent on revenge there. But that was also the same episode in which Angel reminded Buffy how much stronger than him she was (in a completely casual, matter-of-fact way). So it's just an accepted fact that's never been an issue for him.

I'm still disappointed that cordelia and xander never crossed over after the shows split.

Yeah. Angel's great. (Except for the many, many, many times he's not.)
Haha, exactly.

I'm still disappointed that cordelia and xander never crossed over after the shows split.
Yeah. Of all the potential crossovers, I really wanted Cordelia to go back, considering how much she changed since the Scoobies last knew her.

My 2nd most-desired-crossover-that-never-happened was Darla. When [blackout]Dru returned to Sunnydale, I wanted Darla to go with her so the two of them could join up with Spike and torment Buffy together for a while. And if Angel jumped in at some point, all the better[/blackout]. I just loved the fanged foursome and would have loved to see all of them back together in the present at some point. Plus, I always wanted Buffy and Darla to have a re-match since the Darla that returned was so much more interesting than the one that Buffy first encountered.

That would've been fun to see. It would be totally reasonable for Darla to want revenge on buffy.
