Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Vampire

it's been a while since I've watched 'em. I remember the broad strokes, but I wouldn't mind going back and watching the show again. But combining it with Angel, it would take forever and I don't know if I want to sink the time into it again when I could be watching new shows or reading new books.

Heh, I've been doing exactly that lately with this site:

http://markwatches.net/reviews/

That guy watches entire runs of past TV shows non-stop and posts a review/reaction of each episode every day. He's already done BSG and Firefly/Serenity, and he's currently on the latter half of Buffy S3. Somehow, he's managed to remain almost entirely unspoiled, and people aren't allowed to post spoilers in the comments. He didn't even know Angel was a vampire (though he did know that he had his own show). That's actually what inspired me to do my great Whedonverse re-watch before Avengers, just because all his reactions were making me want to re-live it myself, lol. It's been fun reading his transition from "Well this is kind of cute and campy" to "OMG THIS SHOW IS AMAZING." :woot:

Lol, I was following his blog when he was reading the harry potter books for the first time. I haven't read of his other stuff, tho.

I find this curious because I immediately knew Angel was a vampire. It was even something I found debatable or thought of too much. I just saw him and went,"Oh cool, makes sense she'd have a good vampire on her side."

How the hell could Buffy and the gang not know. Dude reeked of vamp.

How many of you honestly knew he was a vampire when you first saw him?

I only knew because I came in so late in the game.

Yeah, the vampire thing came as no surprise. The soul stuff, however... before I began watching, pretty much all the stuff I had to go on regarding the series showed Buffy and Angel as a couple and then I saw a commercial for Buffy reruns on FX with Buffy and Angelus fighting to the death in the second season finale. My immediate response was: "What in the **** is this?!"

I watched the first 3 seasons when they originally aired. You kind of got the feeling Angel might be a vampire. The ugly ass attire they had him in for most of season 1 was a bit of a giveaway. But Joss tried to fool you other ways by having him in the daytime telling Buffy where to find Jesse and stuff.

But when the episode Angel came up and he turned after the kiss, it was still a bit of a "Oh ****" moment. Then the him telling the soul story at the Bronze was another cool piece to his back story and where you realize this dude has been through some serious crap.

Now I feel like watching the series again. Every time I come in here and read a person going through their first experience with the show makes me want to do a re-watch.

Whoa! Principal Woods has skills! So I'm gonna guess Spike killed his mom. Don't tell me.

Edit: Yep. Spike killed her. Damn that sux.

I hated Spike during season7. Season wouldve been a lot better without him

They made him go way too soft. I mean, we get it, he got his soul, but for **** sake.... thank God the fifth season of Angel made him badass again.

He has a lot of guilt, and Angel was also a wreck to after getting his soul. Angel was more of a wreck actually. Buffys helped Spike tho. If there had been an eighth season he'd have been less soft by that point I bet.

Damn, I'm watching Buffy chewing him out for being soft. I guess she's fed up with softy spike too lol.

Lol they must have killer home owners insurance cause Buffys house gets trashed a lot. Sometimes more than once in a single episode.

Spike's soul drama worked fine for me. It only felt a little awkward for having to be condensed into just a few episodes, as opposed to the decades Angel took to work through his guilt.

I already went through one emo soulful vamp, I didnt need to go through it again in the last season of the series. Buffy/Willow/Xander/Giles shouldve been the main focus.

I never did get why that kiss caused him to ''vamp out'' since I don't remember that ever happening again.

Yeah, but even that worked fine for me because Spike was presented with someone to help him through it, along with a purpose/mission, pretty much immediately. Angel suffered for decades before encountering anyone who would do the same for him.

good ol' vampire horomones/emotions getting the best of him.

Its so funny watching vampire shows/movies today and watching Buffy/Angel vampires. Now they all have SUPER speed, can hypnotise, sparkle on occassion, walk in sunlight, only really grow fangs to feed.

My girl and I just started getting into this show(we're on Season 3)and it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Some cheesy dialogue here and there of course, but it's pretty fun and Xander is great.

Where in S3 are you?

The episode we're watching right this minute is her first episode back from the city. She already saved Lilly and those kids from those slave driving mutants.

Wow, you haven't even met Faith yet.

Enjoy that.

Since we like this show quite a bit, I also put up Angel on our Netflix instant cue. Do a lot of you recommend it or should I just stick with Buffy?

Definitely watch it. I would recommend watching them at the same time, as they were aired, too. I watched all of Buffy first, then all of Angel. And there were a few crossovers that I had to go back and rewatch Buffy episodes for.

I always recommend watching Angel.

Thanks for the comments. It's funny originally seeing Boreanas(sp?) on Bones and now seeing him play a vampire.

Ah, nice, you just started. I too was skeptical of this show and never watched it when it was on, but found myself begrudgingly enjoying it at the point you're at (considering I was practically forced to watch it in the first place). Season 3 was the season that won me over completely, so I'd certainly be interested in hearing your reactions as the season goes on.

I highly recommend adding Angel to your viewing after this season. Originally, S1 of that show ran parallel with S4 of Buffy on the same night (with each Buffy ep airing first), and they feature A LOT of interweaving storylines and character crossovers. Angel really helps expand the universe and complete the experience, imo. Plus, it's damn good. :woot:

EDIT: ok yay, you were already considering it, and everyone else beat me to it. So I'll just re-iterate: YES DO IT.
