LOVE the new Exiled Storyline!!!

Finished my model of Thor's house Bilskirnir

Liking the model...that is one humungous hearth down the middle, from the looks of it.

Also enjoying Exiled...at the end of JIM #637, thinking the best one-liner so far belongs to Fandral.

"If any of us could say 'no' to you, think how peaceful our lives would be."

Though Thor's observation, "You strange, staring folk." comes a close second, as he takes off to fix cars.

Judging from the extensive and lively discussion of anything to do with it, anywhere on practically any forum... :whatever: possibly. Gotta say I enjoyed his appearance in the Exiled crossover, though! Arthur the mechanic was a hoot, especially when sitting in on a wedding presided over by the spirit of Bor, wondering why the big guy kept looking over at him like that...

Today's annual, though: pretty much *yawn*

I dropped The Mighty Thor and only sticking with Journey Into Mystery now for my Asgardian fix.

What's a good starting off point for Thor? Ive always wanted to read his books but was never sure where to begin

I started with the JMS run from a few years ago. I wasn't a fan at all of Thor until that series started up.

Yeah, the most recent one is JMS' Thor relaunch. All you need to know going into that is that they're all dead at that point.

To understand anything further back, you would pretty much have to go into Dan Jurgens run and that started way back in 1998.

Or you could go to Simonson's run, which is pretty easy to jump into.

And yes, The Mighty Thor has been unbelievably terrible lately. I'm really hoping the crossover with Journey Into Mystery picks it back up. Fraction is just doing a bad job in general, though.

Another vote for 'oh, just hop in with Simonson'. In omni form it makes a nice, neat, gorgeous package. Possibly supplement with the Thor and Hercules trade to get the one issue in that run where Simonson went on vacation (it was cute, and that TPB as a whole makes a nice light break from...well, pretty much anything Thor's been through, since 2006).

Yeah, Thor's been kind of on the Doom-&-Gloom Express since right around that fight with the Destroyer early in JMS' run, hasn't he?

Yeah, one could say. He still had some fine moments after that--things like the fight with Bor, unhappily as that turned out--and re-reading Siege Aftermath recently, I'm liking that more than I did a year ago--but as a fictional-heroic life, it's been just one damn thing after another for him.

Marvel should fire him.

Marvel should fire him.
I'd be fine with that. I only really like his Invincible Iron Man and even that isn't nearly as good as it was a year ago (maybe longer).

Marvel will never fire that guy. They are very loyal to their writers and artists, way more than they should be and the complete opposite of how they were in between the 80's and 90's.

The only way Fraction is leaving is when he gets tired of the mainstream stuff and wants to do strictly creator owned indy stuff. Pretty much what's happening with Ed Brubaker now.

Doesn't stop a guy from wishing.

I agree. They guy has had a lot of timee and he either still does not understand the character or he has contempt for him some how.

Agreed I do NOT understand Factions concept of Thor myself. My only guess is that he wants to stamp his version of Thor into the character's mythos.

Every writer wants to place their stamp on a characters mythos. Some are good and some suck. It depends on the next guy if they want to ignore it or build off it.

As long as they suck up to Quesada I imagine.

Yup, a former artist in his own right......from the 90's.....an era when there was a bit of a creators revolution against their bosses.

Marvel has become Image in a way.

I wouldn't fire Fraction I'd just take him off the The Mighty Thor. Give it to Gillien and let him write it and JIM. His earlier Thor run was great.

True but IMHO Fractions image of Thor has been on of the worst imaging of my favorite character! It is what it is. I don't Faction should be fired. I just think that he doesn't understand Thor.

I'm not going to be so down on Fraction's Mighty Thor. I can't say it's been amazing, but I wouldn't say it's been horrible. Some parts of it I really liked actually. I think Gillen did a better job on Mighty Thor-- I'll say that. Fraction was one of the writers that got me into Thor with the Ages of Thunder mini. I thought that was amazing. And actually Corpulent1 contributed greatly to my engagement of Thor comics, since when I joined the board I really didn't know much about Thor.

The Simonson run was really good run on Thor. I also really enjoyed Dan Jurgen's run on Thor. That was great as well.
