Jarnbjorn is the name of young Thor's axe, which in Norse means ‘Iron Bear.’ That axe made its first appearance in THOR: GOD OF THUNDER #1, but you can expect it to pop up elsewhere in the [Marvel Universe] as well.​

That face says it all, doesn't it? That is one cocky young god—with a very large axe. Looks like the kind of brash, mead-swilling, combat-loving god who might get himself into lots and lots of trouble. In fact, I'd count on it

Modern Thor

Jason Aaron:

Sleeves or no sleeves? Count me in the sleeveless camp. We'll see Thor sporting both looks in the new series, but for my money, any dude who carries a giant hammer for a living shouldn't be afraid to show off his arms.I prefer the sleeveless look, but the big guy can still armor up if need be.​

We may see Thor's helmet design change from time to time, depending on the battle. This one is probably my favorite though. It looks like a helmet you could take off in a pinch and use to beat a troll to death

I can't believe this thread has been dormant since December. Corp, You should be ashamed for allowing that to happen on your watch.

8 issues into the NOW volume, this book is just too damn good. I love everything about it, the writing, the art, the 3 Thor's, Gorr.....I can't wait to read this thing when it comes out. This latest issue was great. It's my favorite book at Marvel and that says a lot because the NOW era has a ton of high quality books. I've been on the fence between this book and Hickman's Avengers titles but I think I'm gonna crown this thing. It's the cream of the crop in my book.

Agreed, this book is all sorts of awesome. I do hope that Ribic stays on though, I don't know if the book would be as good without his art. I'd rather read it late than to have someone else take over.

I hope he stays for a long time too. He seems to need a break between every arc so there's going to be a couple of fill in guys as well. Some folks seemed to take issue with Butch Guice's fill in. I thought it was fine, it was a filler story anyway. So long as Ribic handles the major stories it's all good.

So do these read better all at one shot or with the few week wait? I got 1-5 last week and they were amazing back to back. I'm debating whether or not to read monthly or just buy them and wait until I can read a few. Any advice?

Speaking for myself, I find the series engaging from issue to issue. Other that it's first 2 issues that double shipped, it's held to monthly schedule and by the time the next issue releases I can't wait to get home to read that sucker. It's filled that spot left vacant by Rucka's Punisher and Remender's Uncanny X-Force before that.

That's good news. Rucka's Punisher used to be my favorite comic on the shelves. I'd definitely like to see this title take its place. The first arc certainly lives up to the hype

People need to shut up about the Guice issue. Guice is fantastic and different art is not necessarily bad. Ron Garney's gonna be penciling #13 and possibly more issues after that, and I for one am overjoyed. Ribic's great, but he needs a break every now and then. Garney's one of my favorite artists thanks to his Captain America and Amazing Spider-Man runs, and I'm very excited to see his art applied to Thor.

Oh, and if anyone else cares, I e-mailed Jason Aaron to ask about whether his King Thor is the same as Jurgens'. They're not. They do still seem really similar, though.

Ron Garney on anything is a good thing. Been a fan of his since his work in Ghost Rider back in the mid 90s. One of the few artist that has always left an impression from that time.

I gotta read this series. I have all the issues available to me, I just need to read them. Perhaps next, after I get done with Butcher Baker, The Righteous Maker.

I've been slowly getting into Thor.

So far I have Walt Simonsons Thor Volume 1-4, Blood and Thunder, and J. Michael Straczynskis run. I also have Dan Jurgens run volume 1-3, and I'm thinking of at least getting volume 4. It started out really strong but my interest started to lesson... though volume three was a crossover and was kind of dull, so I think I may get back into it.

Is there any other trades anyone would recommend?

Literally everything else from Jurgens' run. Also, you can take Blood and Thunder and throw it away. It's a terrible story that, in the end, turned out to just be an excuse for Thor to fight a bunch of people. Although it was sort of the beginning of Thor finally getting out from under Odin's thumb, so that was nice.

I actually liked it for the fact that it was just a dumb brawl book. It was what AVX was... except better.

To each his own. Maybe I'll like it more when I end up reading it again someday. I definitely changed my mind about Warren Ellis' "Worldengine" upon re-reading it a few weeks ago (although not Mike Deodato's art).

And yeah, as runawayboulder said, the DeFalco/Frenz stuff is pretty good. "The Black Galaxy Saga" and everything with Eric Masterson, including both Thunderstrike series, especially. DeFalco didn't seem to have a great head for Thor himself or the Asgardians, but he knocked it out of the park with Eric. "The Everyman Avenger" definitely lived up to his moniker and was noble in all the right ways without sacrificing any of his endearing relatability.

I've been LOVING God of Thunder and JIM these days.
Thor in one book, the Rest of the Asgardians in the other is SO COOL for me. Been loving the humor with Sif's run so far. lol

Not a big fan of Marvel Now's JIM. Just... not working for me. Thor God of Thunder, though, damn I can't wait for the next issue now. I killed those books in one evening and I regretted not reading them sooner. Hope they get an oversized treatment like the Hawkeye is getting.

Journey into Mystery's been fantastic. It's almost as good with Sif as it ever was with Loki, in my opinion. I'm excited to see Beta Ray Bill.

If only we could get something featuring Thunderstrike and Tarene now...

If it's the SAME King Thor from the Regining Arcs yet different Timelines More than Likely he lost it to Logun. Just because Thor FIXED the King Thor Time line doesn't mean King Thor and Magni are GONE, just means they're on a different future.

lol since before Thor was in theaters, where Have you been? lol I've been moderating the Avengers threads and SHIELD threads other than the Thor Movie threads as well.

EDIT was even helping out in the MoS threads for a bit.
BASICALLY Corpy didn't want to be spoiled too much on the Thor movies and I DID so he's been in HERE and I've been in the Movie sections mostly Avengers related threads
