Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

All multiplayer customization options:

I haven't completely kept up with COD since BLOPS 2, I tried a bit of Ghost online but didn't play the campaign and I know AW was futuristic but I have no idea what is going on in this one.

Who's the enemy here? is the story still in the future or what?

it's in the future. soldiers with cybernetic enhancements. etc.

Played a little bit of multiplayer this morning. No surprises there as I played the beta, but it's fun and looks robust.

Also took some time exploring the menus of the game and holy crap is there a ton to do!

Campaign
Campaign Co-op (up to 4 players)
Campaign Zombie mode (unlock after beating normal)
Dead Ops II (an old school, arcade style top-down shooter)
Zombie mode (with Jeff Freaking Goldblum)
- Zombie mode has its own unlocks similar to mp
Free run races (this was actually pretty fun)
Multiplayer
- standard COD modes
- CUSTOM mp (modify aspects of the game, reminds me of the custom options from Goldeneye, some options include Health, Health Regen, Headshots Only)

there's some other stuff as well, but these are the big things I noticed. I've become pretty bored of COD (haven't played in months, excluding the beta), but I can NOT wait to get home from work and play this tonight.

Here's a collection of reviews:

Headshots only mode? That sounds pretty fun. Now they just need to put in a big-head mode and they'll have my money. :o

so Zombie mode is like its own separate game?

can that be played single player?

Yes, it's a separate game. It's an endless horde mode where your only enemies are zombies. It has its own settings and even has some weapons you don't use in the regular game. This one is set in the '40s, whereas the campaign and MP are set in the future.

And you can play it by yourself, but its pretty hard to get far. It's meant to be played in a party. I would imagine the zombie-mode for the campaign would be better. But you can only unlock that after you beat the campaign on normal.

^ thanks. but if you're playing Zombie mode by yourself, can you set the AI to control the other 3 characters?

I don't think it fills in any AI, so you'll be by yourself. But you can search for games online, so you can still search for player to play with that way.

^ thanks.

well, I think I'm going to pick up the game anyways, since I'm liking what I'm hearing about the single player campaign and story.

Zombies is probably a bit too complicated for regular AI buddies with all the objectives you have in it. Although they'd still be nice for a bit of support! For some reason I am really bad at Zombies, like much more bad than I am at other games that I'm bad at. :woot:

Know the feeling. My brother can get to level 30 with his eyes closed. I'm lucky to get to 10 by myself. It's still a blast though.

Zombie mode has been its own separate mode since the first Black Ops.

thanks.

it's just that I don't think I've ever touched a Black Ops game before. Even Call of Duty as a whole, I don't normally play those games. Last year, I got AW with the AW X1 console, but that's it.

the only "military shooter" that I can remember playing is Medal of Honor way back on the PS1.......lol.

so I've heard of these Zombie modes year after year but I never really paid much attention to them.

I've been playing the campaign for a bit. I'm impressed. It's still very much a COD game in its tropes, but it doesn't feel like a corridor shooter. Yes, it technically still is, but the levels are designed with giving you room to navigate each area and attack from different angles which is refreshing for this series. Each mission is fairly well crafted, with a variety of locations throughout each mission, which makes them feel larger and longer. I've played about 5-6 hours of the campaign, and am only halfway through it.

One question though, to those who e played the campaign...after the initial training mission, I have not been able to walk run, even in sections that are clearly meant for it. It just flat out doesn't work. Am I missing something? Anyone else encounter this?

My Redbox FINALLY got PS4 games, so I rented this today. I probably won't buy it til close to christmas, because of Fallout 4 and Battlefront. I'm looking forward to trying it out though.

I played a few matches of team deathmatch and the the mode where you have to defend or attack the robot. They were pretty fun. The controls are super smooth and the wall running is fine. I also like the way the maps are made, with plenty of verticality and walls to run on.

I have only so far been able to get into one single match of zombies. The matchmaking has been awful. It will search and search and sometimes find no games, and then sometimes it puts me in one and after waiting a looooong time for the match to start up, the host will disconnect or something and I have to start all over.

Apparently tons of other people are experiencing the same issue. :/

Disappointed here's why

I'm not really a gamer. I love good stories and the first two installments of this saga were fantastic. I never thought I would say this but Goyers absence can be felt here. They do play with the cyberpunk idea of machines taking over the human mind. But then that's what Reznov, Mason, and the numbers were all about. How could you not work in the characters we have grown to love. Anyways there's also this intrigue the first two had that this one lacks.

Zombie mode has been its own separate mode since the first Black Ops.

Yeah, it started in World at War (pretty soon after Horde Mode did so well in Gears 2).
