INT. JOEY'S BAR - NIGHT
Music blares in the background as JOEY moves around, wiping the surfaces clean. He turns his back to replace a glass on the back wall. As he looks away, someone moves into the shot, and sits down at the bar. Joey senses someone behind him, but carries on working.
JOEY
What'll it be, buddy?
MAN
Scotch. Make it a double.
Joey prepares the drink, and then turns, placing it in front of the man. The man just sits there, his head bowed.
JOEY
There you go, man.
(Beat)
Hey, are you okay?
The man slowly looks up, and we swivel to an over the shoulder shot. Joey's face turns white with shock.
JOEY
Oh, my god.
(Beat)
Harvey? I thought you were dead.
We swivel slightly to reveal the man is Harvey Dent. We can only see the left side of his face.
DENT
Half.
Dent picks up the drink and downs it in one gulp.
DENT
Gimme another.
Joey takes the glass and makes another. He hands it to Dent, who again downs the drink in one.
JOEY
I can't believe it, Harvey. Oh, my god.
DENT
(Shouting)
God had nothing to do with it.
Joey goes dead straight - shocked.
DENT
I'm sorry. I should learn to hold my temper. Sometimes, I just get the feeling I'm two people. I'm sure you get that a lot. Being a bar man.
JOEY
(Nervously)
Not really. No.
Dent chuckles.
DENT
Well, then I guess you never will.
Joey looks confused.
JOEY
What do you mean?
Dent sighs.
DENT
Grab yourself a drink, Joey. My treat.
JOEY
Man, I work here. What the hell do you mean I never will?
Dent reaches into his pocket.
DENT
Alright. I'll just pay and be on my way.
Dent pulls out a wad of dollar bills, and places it on the counter. He unwraps the folded wad to reveal a single silver dollar. He looks back at Joey. The bartender looks confused.
DENT
Chance. Luck. Life. Two sides to every coin. Two outcomes to every scenario.
Dent flips the coin, catches it and covers it.
DENT
Heads, I leave all my money and walk away. Tails, I snap your neck. You see, I know what you did to me Joey. I know what you sold that piece of slime, Maroni. But don't worry, I'm gonna get him later.
As Dent slowly removes his hand from the coin, Joey reaches under the bar for his gun. Before he can raise it, Dent grabs him by the throat, knocking the gun from his hand.
Joey struggles against Dent, kicking and thrashing wildly. Dent grits his teeth in anger.
DENT
You ruined my life, Joey. You are your boss. And because of you, I'm not me anymore.
JOEY
(Struggling)
Harvey....please...
DENT
You keep calling me Harvey. Why? Harvey died weeks ago.
There is a loud cracking noise, and Dent steps back, letting Joey's dead body fall to the floor.
Dent turns to the camera and for the first time we see his full, disfigured face. Half of his face is burnt away and scarred terribly. His teeth on one side are completely rotten. He is a monster.
DENT
I'm Two-Face now.
