The Amazing Spider-Man Can Marc Webb do action?

To be honest, after watching 500 Days of Summer, I really worry about this film. 500 Days was not a good movie.

I don't know. But apparently he can do light hearted romance, and somehow that lands him at the helm of one of Hollywood's all time biggest cash cows.

That and he came cheap. Oh, and his last name is Webb.

At the very least he seems to be a character director.

Last time I checked, we simply wanted directors that could bring drama and pathos, and didn't give a rat's ass if they could direct action or not.

No freakin way. You're kidding. I love that movie. Well, not LOVE but it truly is a good movie. It made a teenage romance seem...real. Probably one of the reasons he was brought into a high school movie.

If the movie is good & feels like the comics, I'll be fine with whatever action we get. Hell, I thought the action in TDK was good, while everyone hated it.

Yeah because wanting a director that can do action while directing an action movie is crazy.

Didn't we applaud guys like Singer and Nolan, who had were never known for action back in the day? We look for these indie guys, as geeks, and when it don't pan out, we ***** about it.

I agree about nolan, but i don't applaud for singer at all.

The only thing with nolan is his serious tone and demeanor carried well into batmans mythos, and his action cuts were some of the biggest gripes people had. He had it done significantly better in TDK(Yes I know arguable however the general consensus seems TDK is better in terms of fight sequences).

I'm not really for an action director, and I could care less about who we get as a director. To be honest, I wouldn't think James Cameron would of been my ideal choice for titanic, i mean he filmed aliens, terminator before that...how do you go from from aliens and terminator to titanic?

He hasn't really given us any indication that he can or can't direct action, we'll just have to hope for the best, for now. I mean, Joseph Kosinski never even directed a single movie before Tron Legacy, but that looks great. Of course, that is just going by the trailers and such. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

If we get action anywhere near this level then I'll gladly crap my pants with excitement.

I knew he was the 500 days of Summer director, but I kind of assumed he'd done more than just that... How did he get this gig?

I mean, the one good thing I will say, is that the thing I most enjoyed about 500 days was the directing. I wasn't particularly mad on the storyline or the ending in general, but I did enjoy watching it...

...but does that style of directing suit Spiderman? I have no idea...

There are directors who have good & bad movies in their career. Personally, I never saw 500 Days Of Summer, but what I am trying to say is that Spider-Man & 500 Days... are totally different movies, you cannot judge now. Plus its also the writtting and other stuff involved, it doesnt ONLY depend on Webb.

I'd love to see Spider-Man avoiding storms of bullets from gang criminals in a similar way!

Well, when I see how much people love the first Iron Man movie which has like 10 minutes of action scenes... Yes, Webb can handle action. I hope.

I am not usually a doomsday predictor type, especially for movies and franchises I am looking forward to, in fact I probably err on the side of being too hopeful(like with the new Conan film), but there is just no chance at all that the action in this new SM movie will match the stunts in the Raimi trilogy, just no chance whatsoever.
There is just not enough time to realise the CGI work necesarry for effective Spidey scenes, they should have started them already, so I am pinning my hopes on effective drama.
There will be about as much action in this movie as there was in the 2nd Hulk movie(meaning scenes with the Hulk), ie not much at all, especially in comparison with the previous movie which had more time and money spent on it.
In actual fact, this movie will be lucky to be as good as Spider-man 3, but I doubt it will be.

We'll just have to wait and see. Webb could either surprise us or dissapoint us.

Are you kidding? CGI films are a dime a dozen these days. They're churned out in the span of a year, maybe a year and a half. Perhaps it's not the best example, but look at the Twilight films, and how fast those come out. They don't take a decade to make. This isn't 2002.

This is a great topic which warrants much discussion, IMO.

I'll give it to Raimi, the action in part 2 was pretty great. But I want to really be wowed this time around. How can Spider-Man look more real in action? I wish WETA were on the case.

I really want to see some awe inspiring action - this is Spider-Man for Christ's sake.

I'd like to hear more interviews with Webb about Spider-Man. Just to see how he sees the character and the mentality he has about it.

The best example to go by is the time it took for the previous SM movie's CG action to be made, technology has not advanced that much since then. The last Spidey movie came out in 2007, they took three years with that and were still rushed to finish it in time. No matter how advanced tech gets, people still have to sit there and plan everything out from the script, storyboard it, animatic it, render, trial and error, etc etc, it will always be a time consuming process for a Spider-man movie for the foreseeable future.
I have not seen the Twilight movies, or know how long they take with those, but Spider-man is a character that takes a lot of work and planning if you want ambitious sequences, they started the train battle before they even had a finished script for SM2 because they knew they would be hard pressed to get it together in a 2yr time frame.

And with Twilight, they already have a story (books). They just have to read the book and X out things they don't want to do. With Spider-Man, they actually have to come up with a story

If he doesn't have experience in it, it doesn't mean he won't be able to handle
Possibly a quick learner?
