the problem wasn't to do with how accurate it was or anything, it was just a very plain, boring and forgetable movie that lacked substance, regardless of it's comic book roots

wow that was quick but i anyway like it siad it wasnt that bad and you dont like the why are you in here then. it least i know why im here cause i like the movie and it wasnt that bad and it sure was better then 94 movie:whatever: , and i whouldnt be shooked if you still watch since you talk about so much. but anyway like i said before if it was bad would there be a sequel? no so that means that the first movie was fun and enjoyable to watch and wasnt even bad , so if you dont like it to bad!:cmad: go back and watch the real boring movies. ps: this thead is so dead thanks to the stupid naysayers. :wow:

So they're just going to set Galactus up for the next movie, he's not going to be a part of this film (except for maybe an appearance at the end or something), right?

I'd like to thank you guys for pointing out some of your criticisms about F4. While I may not agree with what you say, I appreciate you actually saying it!

Chill out there, newbie. These boards are here for discussion, whether it be about the positives or negatives.

I also enjoyed the movie, I was just asking for people to voice their opinions about why they DIDN'T.

well thats good i like reading news about ff. and i know i will like the second movie as the first so anyway i know that this movie will only get better.:yay: ps: the first movie is good and the second will be even better. flame on!:word:

they're making a sequel because the marketing of F4 was good enough to make lotsa money. Also I went to see it JUST because it was a comic book movie and because "it's clobbering time". The reason the second will be popular is because of the silver surfer, It's worth watching just to see how good they make him!

Hey and welcome to the boards.

Ok first of all, it's cool if you like the movie, that's fine.
Glad to know some ppl actually enjoyed it, which is the reason we are getting a sequal.

But you have to see that not everyone shares your same opinion. And alot of people around are F4 fanatic veterans. So these characters have been around for a couple of decades and have a huge following, these characters are really well developed and some ppl just feel that The movie did not do justice to who the fantastic four really are. IMO as a popcorn film, F4 was good. But F4 is more than popcorn, it's about the family and problems they go through, it's the Incredibles but more seriouse while also more ligh hearted. As a matter of fact i think The Incredibles captured the F4 that i would of liked to have seen.

And because we didn't like the first movie does not mean we do not have a right to be here. I for one am looking forward to the next movie and hoping it is alot better than the first.

PS. this thread was a question directed at the most naysayer ;) :D

Hate him because he's black? So I guess we all hate Joel Schumacker because he's white, and not because he directed a crap Batman movie.:o

Well being black has been a problem for many people for sometime so the schumacker comparrison is not valid.

The guy is saying that may be part of the problems people are having.

That coul be one factor that helps explain why online people are tearing Story apart as they know the director while so many movie fans enjoyed fantastic four.

On the other hand I must acknowlege that Tim did not give us all that we wanted. He himself acknowleged that he did not.

The real problem is that a lot of people on these boards seem unwilling to give him the benefit of the doubt, even knowing that they cut about 50 minutes of the man's work from the final cut.

Tim Story is not lacking in effort we know that. It was Tim who wanted SS and Galactus for the sequel to take it to the next level, to take FF to the epic it could be as opposed to what avi wanted a puppet master story.

Yet the fan boys sometimes refuse to give him any credit sometimes (well some of them) but me I am just glad that we are getting the movies man and hoping Tim can give us even more. He beat out XMen1 and I expect the trend to continue and that means we get three of these movies.

So I say lets hear it for Tim Story.

Oh and I am black so I know how tough it can be to get the man to listen to your ideas.

Tim must be having a hard time with the Fox suits.

And on that note, we have Avi Arad for being brave enough for choosing Story, that man does not get enough credit for the success marvel is having with these movies.

I think most are fine in his race, and that is not where they found fault. But I was told of some statements being said something to the effect of "Story had ghettoed up F4", I probably have not quoted it correctly since I only heard of the quote. I've read periodically on this board a few things similar to that.

As far as bringing SS to this movie. Actually I believe the quote from Story was that he would "love" to direct an SS movie. I guess he is getting that wish. Hopefully not at the expense of the F4.

I for one am glad we are not getting Avi's Puppetmaster, I don't know much of him. Only the little bit I've read in the MK issues. Wasn't real impressed with him. My GF finds him quite intriguing in his backstory, etc., but I found him kind of weird and boring.

I'm not sure if I'm happy with an SS storyline. I'm excited to see the excitement it brings. I'll hold a major opinion until I've seen the movie.

I too will give Story a second chance, but if he is not powerful enough to do "his" movie, then he has no place in blockbuster movies from this point on. I don't believe the negative judgement of his talent from the first movie is wholly warranted, nor do I believe that performance deems his crucifixtion before the second. I do believe, however, that his performance as a director in this second movie, should be analyzed to the fullest extent.

Fantastic Four + Silver Surfer + Doctor Doom + Galactus = Mega Dramatic Action Packed Epic.

I think we all agree that a much larger aspect of FF2's quality should be attributed to Story, however, chances are, because of hate, his failings in FF2 will be analyzed to the fullest extent, while his overall performance, and successes will be overlooked on boards like these. If the movie is perfect, people will generally just be quiet, or pick out ludicris "faults," not extoll Tim Story as a great director.

Also, it's easy to hate black people: Watch the news one night. It's preprogrammed into American society, regardless of your color. This is psychology guys, nothing personal, but let's be real. (Disclaimer for those making assumptions: Just because it's easy to be racist doesn't mean you ARE racist... just because you hate Story doesn't mean you're racist either.)

As for Story's "power," obviously he'll get more powerful as he directs more films. To say that he should not ever direct Blockbuster's because he's not powerful enough to push Fox around right now is silly.

Exactly. You can be friends with a black, latino or chinese guy, but as soon as **** hits the fan and you get extremely pissed at them, you can be the most sensitive person in the world, but they'll become a *****, wetback or chink if you get mad enough. The appearance is the first thing to attack when you get angry.

I personally find it kind of ridiculous that everybody immediately jumps on the "race" wagon when people badmouth Story. People badmouth MSJ for Daredevil. People practically crucified Bryan Singer for Superman. I believe Joel Schumacher is still under some federal relocation program for his involvement with Batman. But nobody claims this hate stems from them being white directors. It's because (in some people's opinions) they did a bad job on the films they were in control of.

I'm a white male from the southern USA (Georgia), and when I say Story was the wrong guy for Fantastic Four, it's not because he's black. It's not because I'm racist. It's because I felt the film was sub-par. It's because I think someone else could have done a better job.

Now, of course, there's racism in the world. It is a real problem. But let's not be so naive as to say every black person's failure, or that every criticism aimed at him, stems from racism. Sometimes it's a lack of quality in the finished product. Such was the case (for me) with FF.

If you loved the first movie, if it was everything you wanted in an FF film, then - seriously - great for you. I'm truly happy you were satisfied. I was not. I found the film merely mediocre. And it has nothing to do with the color of the director's skin.

^People ragged on Singer's homosexuality when they were pissed with his work. Dude, if there's something externally particular about you, they go for the jugular always.

^^That's totally true. When a woman cuts you off in traffic, the first word out of your mouth is "B****!". The overweight driver gets called a "Fat***." And while it does create sympathy for the offender, I hope it doesn't excuse the offense.

This thread is silly. Literally thousands of pages have been written about what a cinematic crime F4 was and Tim Story's shortcomings and ineptitude as a director have been detailed in the extreme, and you want us to just, repeat it all, or save you some reading and research time, as if we're your secretaries. :(

As for the appeal of Galactus and SS....um, Galactus is a giant guy that consumes whole planets, so when he comes to Earth, it's, like, scary, you know? 'cause, it would kill the whole planet, but he's so huge and powerful, how could anyone stop him?!?

And, the Silver Surfer is, this really wicked looking silver guy that flies around impossibly on a surfboard and has cosmic powers.

There you go.

Amen brother!

It's not like I'm asking you for a direct link to a picture that's been posted in 3 other threads or anything.

I haven't been around the F4 boards up until now. Don't make it sound like I'm being lazy by asking people their opinion.

Who are you replying to?

The fantastic four movie was pretty good in my book, certainly not terrible but maybe not fantastic either.

The thing and Johnny Storm were both great and most fun to watch. The casting of Reed and Sue could have been better but by the end of the film I was getting used to alba and that guy from hornblower.

The cheesyness was pretty extreme at the end were Reed kisses Sue and everyone on the boat watches also the actress playing alisha should have been wearing shades because she just looked silly pretending to be blind.

Seeing the human torch flame up was really cool, hope there will be more of that in rise of the silver surfer. It was a solid first attempt but I hope the sequel will be better.

This was not an epic movie, and it was barely even an action movie. The FF make ONE rescue after getting powers (saving people from an incident which wouldn't have even happened if not for themselves), and have ONE short fight. Some heroes.

And as most people agree, movie Doom was a disgrace. Way to wussify a great villain.

Now ^THAT^ is a valid criticism. People ripping the cast or Tim Story is just foolishness. Story could only shoot the script he was given with the limited budget he had. Tim, the cast and the FX worked remarkably well in the first film. I liked FF but I agree that it could've been greater given a more solid script. Still, I said the exact same thing about X-Men and I was more then pleased with the leap in quality of X2. FF2 should see the same "epic" progress given the increased budget and new characters involved.

Like Visionary stated earlier...
