Can Spider-man break the "Third Superhero movie" curse?

Spidey 3 is gonna be something really special. I haven't been this hyped since the WTC Spidey teaser was released!!!

well since not many people consider spider-man 1 a classic, and spider-man 2 is considered the superior film. Its safe to say the 3rd film will not suffer from this "Cruse"..
Well, that's part of it. I said with 2nd films that fans tend to like them better than the first, but the general public remembers the first one better.

I see this with Superman II. I see this with Batman Returns. And, from gauging the opinion of uber fans and casual fans, I see this with Spidey as well.

Still, it is a general pattern. Most franchises lossely fit it, but there are variations.

lord of the rings didnt suffer from a third movie curse.

I know you're joking. Because it would be laughable rediculous if you weren't and I'd have to take that statement down. Hard.

But, I know you're just joking. Good one!

I´m pretty confident it will, but if it doesn´t, well, there are the Chris Nolan Batman sequels...

well it will definately do better than other sequals since SM2 was way better than Speed 2: Cruise control, so SM3 should be fine ... lol

Believe it will.:) No change in director, most of the people that worked on the previous films are back etc.

It's not just for super hero movies.

I think Return Of The King was one movie that broke the third movie curse.

Blade 3 and X-men 3 were disappointments.

One has to wonder, why has it been so hard to get a perfect superhero trilogy? Why do the directors always leave after the 2nd film?

There is no curse. It's the material. Studios usually get cocky and think they can screw around with the formula and make the 3rd films a parody of the previous ones like Blade Trininity, Superman, Batman, and to a more severe extent Escape from LA. It was always the material. If they had made Superman 3 as good as 1 & 2 there would be no issue. X3 to me didn't suffer from that problem. It's the #1 film in the franchise now so while the insulated environment of the SHH forums might have a band of people who hated it...the rest of the moviegoers enjoyed it and can't wait for Wolverine and X4. Clearly Spiderman 3 has all the same talent back. There will be no failure there.

Boredom, not getting stuck in a rut, not wanting to deal with studio rushed projects, leaving on a high not ala Elway...etc...

i beieve this will be an excellent movie...havent been this hyped fora while!

EDIT: never have i been so hyped

Escape From LA wasn't a third movie . . .

X-men 3 did have that problem. The humongous dropoffs, terrible reviews, and disappointing fan feedback says it did. Pirates of The Carribbean 2 or the Spider-man films didn't have the dropoffs like X-men 3 or Fantastic Four did.

I know Escape from LA wasn't a 3rd movie but it was an example. The material was lousy and Carpenter instead of making a kick ass sequel or remake decided to parodize his own film that everyone loved. He took all the fans for granted which was the sames as some of the 3rd films. My point was there is no 3rd film curse. It could happen on film 2, 3, 4, etc...It's all in the quality. EFLA was such an F'up I mentioned it. X3 did not have a humongous drop off. Everyone keeps forgetting the drop off came directly after a holiday. X3's opening Sunday came before a holiday monday. It's second Sunday had no holiday after it so the drop off % was exaggerated. You also forget that movies are opening on many more screens nowadays. Same # of theatres or less but on more screens in each theatre enabling everyone to get in in the first week really. Superman just didn't have the interest to draw that many people and opened on a Wendesday so the drop off appeared less but in reality WB would switch positions with FOX in a snap. If Pirates opened on a holiday weekend the 2nd Sunday would be considerably less exaggerating the drop off.

X-Men 3 was complete and utter garbage. And the changes made to the storyline were a big factor in that. Now after hearing Raimi is going to alter Spidey's origin from Spidey 1 then this may suffer as well.
If Sandman is made the real killer of Uncle Ben then this will bring the movie down a lot for me personally.

I'll admit, if that happens I'll certainly be disappointed. Especially since it's become such a cliche in the superhero genre. First Batman, then Daredevil, then Elektra, now Spidey too?

I will be mad if Sandy is Uncle Ben's killer...but it won't ruin the film for me.

I love how There's two different guys who killed Batman's parents in the movies. Look, I know BB was a re-start, but they should of just let it be a random dude, or Keep it Joker like the first movie. As for Spidey, It would be pretty lame and predictable, but hey, it can't ruin the movie for me.
