Canadian man on trial for putting baby in freezer

Question: If this happened in America woud the thread be American Man on trial for putting Baby in Freezer?

Probably not...so why not just Man on trial for putting baby in Freezer?

You all are sensitive lot, aren't you? :o

[South Park]Blame it on Canada[/South Park]

The guy was not entirely off the mark, though he did it in an extraordinarily stupid way. If your child has a super high fever, you need to cool it down, if not by ice packs then by cold water. If hospitals they use cold blankets that lower the temperature. But inside a freezer is totally the wrong way to do it and the child would not have first and second degree freezer burns after forty seconds unless she was crying and since she undoubtedly was, he should have considered that.

This is good to know. I wouldn't know what to do with a kid with a fever either....but putting them in the freezer is just plane ******ed.

Eh my father just gave my whisky. :o

Yeah, the fever is your body burning out the sickness, but your body will keep burning beyond endurance if you are very ill. It will damage itself because it has no real way to stop it. When you are feverish you feel cold because your insides are hotter than your outsides and it makes your body think you need to be warmed up even more. That is extremely bad. You need to lower your body temperature before your brain cooks in your skull like a pudding in a pot.

I think it would have been more sensible if he had taken the baby to hospital instead... As bad as the fever is freezing the child wont help IMO

Um, read my first post. I said he did the wrong thing already. I was clarifying why his idea was not 100% without merit in my second. I HATE when people call me out on points I never made in the first place and try to be all cute with their smileys like it makes it any less ignorant and offensive on their part.

I thought that was what the smileys are for to make sure you wont be misunderstood when you are trying to be funny /I wasnt as I can see now/
And I dont offend people (most of the time). And I certainly dont try to offend mods. I dont hide behind 100+ nicks this is the only one I use and the last thing I want is to get banned.

I knew there are some stupid people out there but this is just too much.
The baby had fever and the guy thought it would be a good idea to cool her down by putting her into freezer.

OTTAWA (Reuters) - A Canadian man who could not figure out how to deal with his girlfriend's feverish 10-month-old daughter put the baby into a freezer to cool her down, a local newspaper reported on Friday.

Derrick Hardy faces charges of criminal negligence and assaulting the infant, who was rescued when her mother came home, the Charlottetown Guardian said.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corp. said the mother found the girl crammed into the freezer alongside ice cubes and hamburger meat. Hardy said he had left the door ajar but the mother said it had been closed when she returned.

He told a court in the eastern province of Prince Edward Island on Thursday the child had only been in the freezer for about 40 seconds.

Hardy, 21, who admitted to police that he had no real parenting skills to deal with a sick child, said he had noticed the girl was very hot and put a cool cloth on her face, but this had no effect.

He then carried the girl outside into the night air but, frustrated that this also did not work and worried she might drown if placed in a cold bath, he put the baby into the kitchen freezer. She was wearing only an undershirt.

A local doctor said the mother had described her baby as "crying, sobbing and terrified." The child spent several days in hospital to recover from first- and second-degree freezer burns on her head and torso.

Hardy has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The baby's grandmother now has custody of the girl.

What a ****ing idiot, I may not have parenting skills as well but I wouldn't put a baby in a freezer I would know better or take her to a doctor who is a expert.:wow:

What I find absolutely hilarious is that he pleaded not guilty. Dude, you put a ****ing baby in a freezer!! The baby suffered first and second degree freezer burns!! How the heck can you not be guilty of criminal negligence and assaulting the infant??

I just typed in "baby in freezer" in google, and looked through the pictures till I found it.

This thread made me think of putting a baby in a microwave, which I find hilarious.:csad:

I just feel sorry for people this dumb.

I feel sorry for the people they end up hurting.

They won't need to lock this guy up. Just give him ten seconds alone with a parent's committie, they'll do the police job for him.

Can't believe anyone could possibly be that stupid though, seriously. I mean, where is the logic?
