Cancelled shows of Tomorrow: The War on Chuck Lorre - Part 9

Has anyone ever watched the series "FBI" by Dick Wolfe?

Is it like CSI at all? It kind of sounds like the same sort of premise except with a different agency. Or is it more like Law and Order?

I'm trying to find a series to watch over the summer. I just finished watching LA's Finest.
Haven't seen FBI, but how is LA's Finest? I do like Jessica Alba.

I've had a huge celebrity crush on Constance Wu and I actually really like her on FotB. She has deserved an Emmy for her role.
But yeah he just doesn't look good here.
I saw people trying to defend her, but she just looks bad. Of course everyone is allowed to complain about their jobs. But:
1) You should never do it on social media. That's just ridiculously immature
2) Again she's allowed to complain, but when you're a successful actor maybe making like a million bucks per season you just kinda come across as an ***hole.

I do agree that maybe after Crazy Rich Asians she may have some offers lined up. But someone pointed this out on Twitter. Randall Park is really working despite being on the show. Maybe not that many lead roles, but he's working. Even better example, before he left Steve Carrell was like in every episode of the Office and he still filmed Get Smart, Date Night, Little Miss Sunshine. You're options are way more limited when you have a major show to shoot, but I'd be surprised if there's nothing good for her to sign on to. Maybe not a major blockbuster that shoots for 3 months and required reshoots, but there should be something. And I feel like if she asked, they could write her out for a few eps.

But this is all from the outside looking in. I do also agree that the show should probably end with season 6

I mean Chris Pratt still stayed on Parks and Rec after his movie career blew up. He still did the final season after Guardians of the Galaxy had come out. At least publicly he said he had no intention of leaving the show. Even if it was a lie, he made it seem like he wanted to stay on. Still showed up for press events and such, acted like part of the team and not a movie star diva.

I would've had more respect for Constance Wu if she apologized and just took the loss here. I get why she was upset but like complain to your friends and your representation. Don't put it on social media.

It is disrespectful to her fellow cast and crew mates who get to continue to work. And other actors in her profession.

It's alright. It took me a few episodes to properly get into it though, but the leads do have good chemistry and you do warm to the characters.

I think the show improved as the season went on. There's an overarching plot throughout the season which follows on directly from Bad Boys II, and then little mini cases they're also solving. I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue watching it at first after about 3 episodes, but I'd say by the mid to end of the season I was more invested and I'd watch the second season. Might be worth you checking it out.

It's nothing like the Blacklist or Blindspot but it has some action. All of the main characters are all FBI, so that makes it different than the other FBI shows, who use an outsider to help them out. This show has no outsiders helping them. It's more like Blue Bloods except without the lawyer stuff and the family stuff and a little more action than Blue Bloods.

The premise (from Wikipedia):

The series centers on inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). This elite unit brings to bear all their talents, intellect, and technical expertise on major cases in order to keep New York and the country safe. Born into a multi-generational law enforcement family, Special Agent Maggie Bell commits deeply to the people she works with as well as those she protects. Her partner is Special Agent Omar Adom "O. A." Zidan, a West Point graduate via Bushwick who spent two years undercover for the DEA before being cherry-picked by the FBI. Overseeing them is Special Agent in Charge, Dana Mosier, who operates under intense pressure 24/7/365 and has undeniable command authority. The team also includes Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine, the nerve center of the office whose ability to easily relate to and engage with both superiors and subordinates makes him a master motivator. Kristen Chazal is the team's most valued resource, a brilliant analyst recruited straight out of university who can piece together the big picture faster than anyone. These first-class agents tenaciously investigate cases of tremendous magnitude, including terrorism, organized crime, and counterintelligence.[7]

A few names in the cast you might know: Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue), Jeremy Sisto (Law and Order) and Sela Ward (CSI New York).

It's a good show. As I said, the fact that the show doesn't use an outsider makes it stand out compared to other FBI shows. Three of the characters have significant back stories.

I checked out the first episode. It was okay. I'll give it a chance. I do recognise all those names. Connie Nielsen was in the pilot but I guess she doesn't play after that.

I did think it was a bit like the Blacklist but without Ultron helping them out. Not so much like Blindspot, because that has more comedic elements at times.

I haven't watched Blue Bloods before so couldn't compare it.

I've seen it. It's nothing like CSI. It's more of a standard procedural.

Well I've been enjoying FBI so far and have watched up to episode 18. It is actually a little reminiscent of CSI: NY more than the other CSI shows. But also more of a Law and Order (or at least Criminal Intent) serious tone. It's like a cross between those two shows.

But I didn't find episode 18 which was the backdoor pilot for FBI: Most Wanted all that interesting. It had Julian McMahon as the lead. Who wants to watch Dr Doom-lite headlining a show? He's dull. The rest of his supporting cast aren't all that interesting either except for Alana De La Garza, but I hear she's going to be joining the main cast of FBI next season anyway (maybe replacing Sela Ward?).

I wonder why Sela Ward left. Did she feel she didn't have enough to do or maybe that the role was too similar to CSI: NY? Maybe it would've been good to have several teams as part of the regular cast working different cases or parts of the same case like CSI used to do. It seems that the only agents they have are Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki.

I don't remember, I might've quoted yours by accident when I meant to do someone else's. Sorry.

I seriously had no idea it was even brought back.

I think networks will be pretty ruthless with shows at this moment that haven't lived up to their potential, especially in this climate. I'm expecting All Rise to be cancelled soon.

Although I'm surprised by the episode they just produced that I'm reading about now that's set during the pandemic.

All Rise is one of the dullest courtroom dramas I've ever seen. I couldn't even tell people what the shows about. A judge and a bunch of lawyers....do judge and lawyer stuff.

Isn't that every lawyer and cop show?

Meanwhile Grey's Anatomy will last for another 100 years.

Y the last man has been cancelled after one season by FX and Hulu.

Not surprised. Looking at the responses I've seen on the internet, a lot of people found the premise ridiculous.

I have been underwhelmed by many of the new shows on Fox, CBS, NBC and ABC this year.

They removed the humor from the comics and made the show way more serious which probably didn't help.

According to RT, the series has been well received by critics and viewers (the few who watched). One complaint I found interesting: since the marketplace is overcrowded by dystopian fiction (allegedly), Y: TLM doesn’t really stand out.

But I haven’t heard anyone claim that the sci-fi premise was inherently silly.

I saw the announcement on Brian K. Vaughan's IG. Now they're shopping it around for a second season.
I hope they find it. We've been waiting a long time for Y to get adapted for the screen; would be a shame for it to end with so much story left to tell.

You on your own with that. They deviated way from the source. I have no pity when that happens. Maybe they will make more shows for the fans instead of having their own vision overshadow the show itself.

Y The Last Man came too late. The material became outdated.

That said I still don't know how Preacher got like 4 seasons. They butchered the source material.

I watched the first episode and that was it. Didn't get to the second episode because the first was so boring and build up was way too long.
