With Killian and Pierce, Marvel has demonstrated a willingness to create their own filmverse lead characters and simply assign names of Marvel bit characters to them.

Good point. Very good point. Story comes first, by far here. I think the story they want to tell

I think Red Skull will appear in avengers 3 to give a human story just as strucker appears in avengers 2....As for Zemo, i can't see who will play a guy who has no face such as Zemo.....I think that's one of major downsides of that character, other than the one that he has no powers.....

He does have a face, it's just terribly scarred.

I would like to see more of Arnim Zola in his robot form. Perhaps he and Zemo together.

Zemo & Zola with Batroc and Crossbones as hired help.

An introduction to Radioactive Man towards end of movie as a bonus.

Again I don't think Radioactive Man as he was in most of the comics would work today. Radioactive Man seems to represent America's relationship with China in the 1960s and didn't have much character beyond generic commie villain who hates American super heroes, because he is a communist.

Ellis made him into a character who is a frienemy, not quite an ally, not quite an enemy, that presents the modern China Us relationship. Radioactive Man should be a Chinese patriot who's goals can be similar or in conflict with heroes like Captain America or Iron man, depending on the situation. He should be more of anti hero then a flat out villain.

Captain America:TFA and Iron Man are probably my favorite MCU films behind The Avengers, but I'm still pissed about how they handled the Red Skull conflict here. It just feels so unresolved. I really feel that Red Skull HAS to come back, he has to be the primary villain of the third film.

I feel that Zemo and a MASKED Crossbones should both be involved too though. .

My vote would be for Zemo and Crossbones, with Red Skull revealed to be pulling the strings..The third film should emphasize why Red Skull is Captain America's nemesis.

I don't care if Hugo Weaving comes back or not. If he's going to be that unappreciative about playing such an iconic character with so much history... then get rid of him. He was great as Red Skull, but a lot of what made that character work was the writing and the makeup/wardrobe. There are plenty of other actors that could play the role just as well.

Agreed. I say bring back the Red Skull, regardless if we need to recast him or not.

One scenario I've been thinking about would be bringing the Skull back similarly to the way he was resurrected in the comics (issue v1 #350 to be exact.) At the end of CA:TFA, Skull is pretty clearly zapped into the Nine Realms by the Tesseract. What if only his body was zapped into the cosmos and his consciousness somehow got trapped in the Tesseract?

The cube is recovered by the S.S.R who after the war recruit several former German scientists into their ranks including Arnim Zola. No doubt the cube was being studied by the S.S.R and later S.H.I.E.L.D during the intervening years between TFA and TA in which case Zola might have secretly discovered that Schmidt's mind was inside the cube.

Given that CA:TWS already established Zola was successful in transferring his own mind into an A.I. then it would not be out of the realm of believability that he would also be able to transfer Schmidt into a new body or like the aforementioned comic issue into a clone body of Steve Rodgers. Since Steve would still be in the ice, Zola would have to use an alternate source for his DNA. The main option would be the samples of Steve's blood the S.S.R drew from him after Erskine was killed the hopes of trying to reverse engineer the SS formula.

This is how they could replace Hugo Weaving. By having Chris Evans play a dual role as both Steve Rodgers and his clone self; Johann Schmidt reborn. A great potential scene could be Schmidt getting his face disfigured back into the Red Skull by the "dust of death" or some other means and having Evans don the mask/makeup. It could also be revealed that the newly revived Skull was really the one behind Hydra's reemergence in the present day.

Baron Zemo would be an excellent choice. I'd love to see him in a live-action movie. Alexander Lukin has essentially been done already, because Robert Redford's Alexander Pierce was based partly on Lukin. The character of Pierce was essentially an amalgamation of Lukin and various corrupt/traitorous government officials from the comics. Zemo would be interesting because he would probably be a villain trying to take advantage of the chaotic fallout from the events of TWS and trying to use that chaotic situation for his own gain and his own power. It would be interesting to see how Cap deals with a threat like that.

Do you think Arnim Zola will be back ?

I hope so and in his robotic form update needed. He may seem goofy to some but I like the design of his robotic form & to me he is the original Krang. lol.:woot:

Still also would like more or better appearance for Batroc too.

Baron Zemo is the way to go. Why bring back Red Skull for a solo film? Zemo is arguably Cap's 2nd biggest arch-enemy. They need to put him in there

I think Arnim Zola returning could be pushing it.

His appearance in TFA didn't set him up for anything obvious, so his appearance TWS was a surprise, not the least to Cap.

Then it looks like he died. If he comes back again, it could look tacky.

Why not? I look at it this way, Marvel obviously chose not to kill off Red Skull at the end of TFA so that he could at least be an option for future films. The problem is under the current plan, Chris Evans only has three films left on his contract. AoU is spoken for and Thanos will most likely be the focus of Avengers 3 so Cap 3 is pretty much the best opportunity to use RS again. Personally I think it would tie the CA trilogy together quite nicely to have the villain from the first film return for shot at revenge in the third.

But hey, Red Skull's my favorite villain so I'm a bit biased. However, having said that, I wouldn't have an issue with Zemo being the main baddie either.

I actually feel like we will and should see Zola, in his traditional comic form at some point. His appearance in TFA actually does set up/foreshadow/plant the seeds for his transformation into Robo-Zola. The blueprint for the Robot is in TFA, it's seen when Zola grabs it and stuffs it into his case as he's evacuating the factory facility. Robo-Zola actually featured in the Super-Soldier tie-in video game but that has been rendered seemingly non-canon by Von Strucker's appearance in TWS and soon to be AoU.

Then there's Zola's presence in TWS. I was aware that Zola was gonna be in TWS somewhat early on and a part of me was kinda hoping we would see Robo-Zola as the twist villain, big bad but for a while I was expecting his appearance to be more of a flashback to the WW2 time so the fact that what we got was somewhere in between was pleasantly surprising for me. The writers actually said that they scripted a bit where you see the Robo-Zola get up and walk away either right before or after the bunker is destroyed so they were seriously toying with the idea. Pierce says "they cost ME Zola" and seeing the modern USB port plugged into the '70s style computer system implies that significant work was done and it's possible and very likely that a digital copy or several of Zola's brain are still in existence, just that Pierce and his wing of HYDRA no longer have direct access.

It's like an equation. We have two seeds. 1(Robot blueprint/TFA) + 1(Zola's digital brain/TWS) = 2(A seed for a potential future appearance of Robo-Zola). Even in the scene in the Bunker, Computer-Zola repeats the HYDRA motto, "cut off one head, two more shall take it's place" complete with animated graphic showing the HYDRA emblem dividing like a cell. It seems like it could be some more foreshadowing. I guess a question is when might we see Robo-Zola? Personally I would be pleasantly surprised to see him as a secondary/sub-villain/henchman in AoU. We already know that HYDRA will have a role in the story and will likely be dealt with decisively in AoU. Cap's fought many a mechanized villain in the comics i.e Zola, Machinesmith, Ameridriod. Now that I think about it, Zola's also the main reason why Bucky is the way he is now, that's something I could see being worked into Cap3 possibly.

For Cap3, yeah I would like to see some new villains. I think I might have posted in this thread previously. Zemo would be cool but if they use him they should reveal that he's serving/working for the Red Skull, much like he was in the comics. Even in Bloodstone Hunt [blackout] Red Skull was revealed to be secretly shadowing the events via his agent/henchman Crossbones(his first comicbook appearance)[/blackout] If they bring back Red Skull could they do it without HYDRA? The writers already said they may want to take a break from HYDRA. I think the best way to go would be to bring AIM into the mix perhaps. Maybe HYDRA sold them or they acquired a copy of Zola also? The writers mentioned '50s Psycho Cap before backpeddling on that and I think they've mention ideas for both Zemo and MODOK. If they do decide to bring MODOK into the MCU it should be in a Cap film. MODOK to me feels like one of Cap's arch-villains at least from the '60s/'70s, infact I think MODOK first appeared as a Cap villain. Bucky is gonna be in the mix but I don't he should used as a villain again, maybe make Cap and the audience question it for a bit but have him be revealed as an ally again. Imagine how cool it would be to see Cap and Bucky teaming up and taking on a MODOC squad or having to put down Robo-Zola once and for all? I can see Dr. Faustus being in the mix at some point as well, they could do some psychological thriller type stuff.

Either way the creative team has a lot of options. After TWS I got a good feeling about Cap3.

Baron Zemo or Red Skull, anything else would be disappointing

I could see that being a case of and/or. If they bring back Red Skull, which I hope they do at some point, there needs to be another secondary/henchman/sub-villain role or several. I like my action/adventures with ensemble organized villainy. Zemo makes the most sense to bring in as a fresh villain. Perhaps we can get an opening teaser showing Cap, Bucky and the Howler's raiding his castle. That event actually happened in the Super Soldier video game although Zemo himself wasn't present, but it's now non-canon but I know Evans used it as an action reference for TWS. There's a years worth of missions and raids that was compressed into a 2-min long montage in TFA. I want to see a bit more of their exploits and Cap the Howlers taking on Zemo is one of them. Next they could have the son Helmut perhaps be allied with AIM in the present day and maybe equipped with a copy of Zola and Rumlow as his henchman/mercenary. Crossbones was always Skull's right hand but they kinda incorporated some aspects of Zemo into the Skull and they've shown that they're not 100% straight-up adaptations but rather hybrid amalgamations at times. It still feels like and respects the comics at certain points but it still it's own thing when you get into the details.

I would like to see them expand on the villain formula they used in TFA and TWS. For TFA there was Skull, Zola, Kruger, and arguably the "Hordes of HYDRA" count as comic book villains. In TWS we had [blackout]Pierce[/blackout], Bucky/Winter Soldier, Zola, Rumlow, Rollins, Batroc, Machete, Sitwell, Sterns and a host of HYDRA sleepers and mercs. For Cap3 I could see something like Flag Smasher as a Batroc like villain early on, Zemo working with AIM who has the support and patronage of a secretary of defense Dell Rusk. Rumlow is back as the muscle for Zemo, maybe Faustus is the mix working for Zemo trying to drive Cap crazy. I'd like to see the AIM "beekeeper suits" as cannon fodder and perhaps rather than MODOK, I'd like to see a MODOC Squad that Cap and Bucky tag team to take down in some engine room, factory, industrial area/hazardous environment i.e turbines, crushers, grinders, vats of chemicals/molten steel, furnaces/ovens/incinerators, exposed wires, large objects that can fall etc. I love pulpy stuff like that.

Zemo, and wih the Masters of Evil to introduce some villains that wouldn't stand on their own as "big bads". Perhaps, when Thanos shows up in Avengers 3, they could then employ the Masters Thunderbolts-style to help in the battle against Thanos?

For Cap 4,

Captain America: Liberty and Justice
or
Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty

With the emergence of the time stone infinity stone, so too comes the return of Red Skull and a resurgence of Hydra. Now with modern technology and new plans for world domination.

General Ross is tasked with taking down Hydra and decides to assemble the Thunderbolt Strike Force. Made up of Helmut Zemo, Emil Blonsky and Ulysses Klaw.

Cap/Bucky/Falcon are caught in the middle. Toeing both sides of the law to bring down two dangerous organizations led by fanatic masterminds.
