On the TV Sherlock front Lucy Liu directed a episode Luke Cage for season 2.

Jude Law's best friend and Cumberbatch Frankenstein co-star Jonny Lee Miller is the only current Sherlock associated actor to have not done anything with Marvel yet.

Miller would be an amazing Silver Surfer.

Well Iron Man and Doctor Strange will definitely be in a scene together in Infinity War. Would love if one of them said to the other “Aren’t you a regular Sherlock” as a joke.

Mar-Vell being in the movie suggests to me that they are not straying too far from Carol's comic book origin. I think that's for the best, honestly.

I know some fans don't feel that way though. I've read some of them suggest alternative ideas for Carol to get her powers from a nuclear explosion (no joke) and that she get the name Captain Marvel from one of her friends suggesting it for her, or a newspaper giving her that name. They hate Mar-Vell being in the movie so much that they come up with some of the stupidest ideas ever to replace his role.

'cause people are morons. Captain Mar-Vell is my second favorite Captain Marvel right behind Monica Rambeau. I'm still depressed he doesn't get his own movie

But I don't even think Silver Surfer can be used in a Captain Marvel film because aren't his rights still with FOX? Unless Disney they got the rights for Silver Surfer because then if they do then I could see him being teased in a future Captain Marvel film

Why are people against Mar-vell?

There were people harping on about any inclusion of Mar-Vell takes away from Carol even though that isn't true.

Carol needs supporting characters and one of those supporting characters is going to be the exposition person that tells the audience information. The role is often filled by a mentor or friend character in a film so Mar-Vell could fill that role perfectly.

I think Mar-Vell is important to Carol's story, but I'm assuming they'll find a way to give her agency in her own story.

Mar Vell being in this for more than just a few minutes excites me. He can have a significant role without taking anything away from Danvers. Look at the Ancient One in Dr Strange as a perfect example of making a mentor bad ass while still being a supportive character.

Hmm... Good point. How much of alien races did SHIELD already know during the90's? Was what happens with Carol the origin of the Kree body on AOS?

Rights issues has no bearing on if I think Miller would be a good Surfer.

I know it's certainly not popular but I always thought an interesting take would be to present the movie as Marv-Ell's story and then he dies midway, imbues Carol with powers and we the audience realize that no, this isn't the story of another male hero but actually the story of the non-powered female supporting character, which actually makes her the lead. Kind of like having Carol as a "sleeper" lead. Done right I think it would be very different for sure.

I think it'd be a great idea but then you'd lose the marketing aspect of it and many who wanted to see that wouldn't even have seen the film I the first place (like JL with Supes and Cumberbatch in Star Trek).

Yeah, I've had similar thoughts in the past. There's a part of me that thought it would be REALLY fun to have what appeared to be the "love interest" character become the main hero midway in a sort of bait-and-switch scenario, pulling the rug out from under the audience's collective feet, but at the end of the day...there's just no feasible way to market that. Especially with all this pressure being their first female led movie. People are gonna be aware it's her, so marketing it as a Mar-Vell movie or making the character they know to be the main star appear to be the love interest in what's supposed to be her own story, or appearing to focus on the male lead for the first half of the movie, would not go over well.

For all those who don't know, will the general audience and some critics think that Marvel are now so confident of their brand that they just name the movie and character after themselves?

Will people be asking what's next? Captain DC? Although that won't be next.

I'll be honest, I kinda thought of the possibility back when it was first announced. I don't know.

I find it a bit odd that they have Larson filming on A4 as CM before she even works on her own solo film, which is supposed to come out before A4.
