Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 5

Does Carol get an honest to goodness one on one fight against another super human/alien foe in this is my question?

The closest I can think of is Ronan but in the MCU without the power stone in his hammer is he a threat?

I have a feeling she'll be fighting Minn-Erva.

Does she have that kind of power traditionally? I am blanking in my memory banks if that's so.
She has the basics. She used the Psyche-Magnetron on herself and ended up with flight, super strength, super speed, and "enhanced perception" that allows her to track down unique energy signatures like Carol. She's also constantly using Kree weapons for various scenarios, including energy blasting gloves that mimic Carol's energy projection abilities, teleportation tech, cloaking devices, etc.

Thanks.

I wouldn't be surprised if they incorporated the old Mar-Vell storyline where Minn-Erva was developing Kree biological weapons and essentially using Earth as a research/test site.

Minn-Erva and Ronan will be the 2 money solo fights Carol will have in this, no doubt. Unless they have some form of Super Skrulls in it as well (that can use kree energy like her). But that part would be speculatory. We can bank on Minn-Erva and Ronan.

I think it would be awesome if Carol handles Ronan with ease only to reveal to the audience that it's Minn-Erva that is the real physical threat to our heroine.

I hope the directors are up for delivering on that kind of moment. I still cringe at some of the CGI and action in BP which was so good but did have that as a noticeable flaw and I can't help feel it's that Ryan hadn't ever done something like that before.

That might be part of it, but I also feel like Marvel has their go-to players for VFX and post-production and the like, and the A-team was busy with Infinity War, so Black Panther got the B-team, so to speak. That could very well happen with this movie, too, but one aspect this has in its corner is that BP's cinematographer, Rachel Morrison, while great, was also new to the whole VFX game as well. By contrast, Captain Marvel has Ben Davis, the MCU's MVP of cinematography (imo), so he's VERY well-versed with this rodeo. Then there's the nature of the VFX at hand - Captain Marvel will be doing more outlandish things than BP, so that stuff's actually easier to pull off than, say, digital doubles doing martial arts, because we know what the latter should look like. So I think this has at least a couple things going in its favor in terms of the VFX in the final product.

With there being Skrull influence it makes me wonder if the Skrulls can possibly be connected to HYDRA? It makes me wonder if SHIELD all along has been under Skrull control and that is why SHIELD fell in the first place to HYDRA?

Hey stranger things have happened and it would explain a lot in the MCU

Fun speculation, but it mostly just feels like fan theories being presented as something more substantial (which is pretty common).

To make the Skrulls a bigger threat down the road, and I think that's the plan, I don't think they should be connected to Hydra or Shield in any consequential way. They are BIGGER than that.

Chewie turns out to be
An alien cat
in the comics though.

Which would be so much fun to see. Like she goes back present day to check on where she grew up and her cat is still there and she’s all “oh chewie it’s so great to see you! Wait, cats don’t live this long...” and then the fun begins

Yeah I kind of see them as like, if hydra was the alt right, the skrulls are Russia. Like there’s a threat of collusion there where they might have helped them gain power to help move their vision along

It actually would be amusing to me if she saw Chewy again after 22-25 years and just made some flippant, off-handed quip about it like, "damn, how young were you when I got you?!" And then he's revealed to be an alien in a sequel.

Also, my mom's cat is about to turn 23, so ya never know.

Oh how lovely! My cat is 16 and to be honest I worry every day.

Yeah that would be pretty cool, plus a great opportunity for an Ellen Ripley reference

Mom had a chihauhau that no joke we got in 1989 and she lived to 2004.

It's time to acknowledge that "I heard a rumor that..." -- actually means "I'm starting a rumor that...."

Very true. The link posted earlier uses the phrase "a rumor has surfaced."

Which is a cleverly passive way of putting it, but basically: "We are creating a rumor."

That’s fantastic! We had a budgie that I swear was the longest living budgie on the planet. They usually live for about five years but I think he did about 16!

I’m still not over how cool it is that this is set in the 90s. I mean at this time while carol is doing all this cool stuff Thor looks like this

(He’s the one on the right]

And Spider-Man looks like this

And captain America looks like this

Well damn, Thor hit a serious growth/aging spurt after the age of 1475...

Ha, yeah not many people know Thor used to be a backpacker picking fruit during the early early days of Australia and summer bay lol
