Cartoon Network to become "Network"

G4, I will never forgive them for crapping on TechTv. I used to learn computer stuff and then they buy it, and go "Hey how can we make this more like Spike?"
I have a friend who said something identical to your rant. :hehe:

Isn't that reality tv crap getting kind of stale by now anyway? When did this madness start anyway? The latter part of the 90s? Pretty soon you won't be able to tell one pay channel from another. :csad:

What do you all think of Nicktoons? If Network:whatever: shows any iota of success in the ratings, will it be long before they follow suit?

Not to mention Judgement Day. That was a great little review show... :csad:

Yes! Loved it. You know they didn't stop after G4. The show become Reviews on the Run.

Even though I thought Judgement day had better reviewers, I though the early X-play episodes were incredibly funny. Now they never say anything funny anymore and its barely a review show either.

Nicktoons, and Disney XD both seem to be doing well. As they both air old shows from there old networks, with new shows to get people to buy the cable package to watch. I could see Cartoon Network reworking Boomarang to be like those channels. With a possible name change for Boomarang, while Cartoon Network changes its name to go into full catching up to Disney mode.

Really, now that I've sat here thinking about it. I really just don't care anymore. CN was dragging itself for along time. Yeah I like some of the shows they air. Like Secret Saturdays and Batman the brave and the bold, but from what I've been hearing they won't be there much longer. Its sad to see something you grew up with die, but I have dvds sets now of most of my childhood shows. All I really need left from CN is dvd sets of Swat cats, Megas, and Dexters Lab and I'm done. I'm going to college in Aug. I won't have time for there shows anymore.

Yeah, I find myself watching disney XD a lot for the older DCAU/Marvel shows, Recess, Jackie Chan Adventures, Gargoyles, and Even Stevens.

Boomerang I get my 60s/70s cartoons, Dexter's Lab, Johnny Brave, and Justice League Unlimited.

Nicktoons I get Doug, Avatar, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats and other Nicktoons.

And Don't forget the N. They show most of Nick's old live action stuff.

At this point, I see no reason for me to watch any of the flagship channels outside of me watching adult swim.

I forgot about Jackie Chan Adventures. That show and Rush Hour 2 got me really into Jackie. I wish it was on dvd.

I'm too disgusted to say anything other than I Just don't understand. I'll leave it at that.

Heya,

It just seems that all "Scripted" or "Animation" style of shows are dying a very quick and horrible death for "Reality," but everyone wants piece of the pie and it's very cheap to produce.

I'm literally turned off on TV, not that I was a big fan anyways, but they are nailing themselves in the coffin, literally. I would drop my cable as the wife wants to keep it, and I would just keep the net. Oh, well.

Let's hope they wake up, but I doubt it.

I'm still holding out hope that animation will make a furious comeback and prevail but until I see proof of that, the television is rapidly becoming a very repetitive and boring format for entertainment.

Reality tv does not equal escapism for alot of viewers; I'm sure many of us see a-holes like this in everyday life be it at work, school or our own families. Why do I want to turn on the tube and see this all over again? That's when I want to unwind and indulge into the fantasy before me.

Damn it, I watch more cartoons than my kid does so this really ticks me off. :cmad:

I really hope that the medium wakes up and gets a clue.

There's not much I can say that hasn't been said. I miss the classic cartoons that they used to play, and I'm not subscribing to Boomerang...

They keep screwing up TV like this and Books will make a comeback. Fiction is cheap easy escapism that entertains.

They're now running promos for that basketball game with the trampoline that Spike TV had on a couple of years back. It's set to start airing on the "Network" in 2 weeks. ... :facepalm

So "Discovery Kids" type rejects weren't covering all the bases?

I will confess to have watched a few "Survive This" eps and a little bit of DBD for Andrew WK. But these shows don't belong on Cartoon Network anymore than 95% of the programming on MTV belongs on...MTV.

Also...Are you hearing what I said? What does that remind me of...

Is it me or is the cartoon slowly dying?

It's not just you. Honestly(and I know I'll catch a bit of heat from this) but I think this is partially because of video games. Why don't kids read comic books anymore? Video games. Why do kids prefer cgi to 2d? Video games. Obviously there are other factors in play in all of those scenarios but I think it can be argued that video games played a big part of that. I'm not some anti-gaming person but I think it's a legitimate point.

More on topic, I think what we're witnessing is the slow and eventual death of animation on tv as we know it. I think cartoons for kids peaked in the early part of this decade. Ever notice how most adult animation fans aren't watching more than maybe 2-4 cartoons nowadays? Oh sure we're still watching OLD stuff on dvd but mostly we're not watching much of anything else. Part of it is our age but I believe another is there is simply not much of quality left anymore for ANY age.

"Network!", just plain ol "Network"???, I'd prefer they stayed with "CN", and like "MTV", "BET" and "TLC" stop spelling out the name and the next generation won't even care what it stands for

Survivor.

I friggin hate that show so much.

I miss the the days when Cops, The Real World, and Road Rules were the only reality shows on the air. And now, everything gone to hell from washed up rappers "looking for love" to real-life housewives. I could give two s***s about how much money the networks are saving, We need scripted programs.

Sounds like CN is going the way of MTV back in 1992...Walking away from it's original mission into the abyss.

CN is owned by WB right? Explains a lot, as everyone there seems to have their heads in their ***es about running a network. I guess they're applying the same wrongheaded ideas about how they're running CW into their cable channels as well. WB suits must be smoking the same crack Dawn Ostroff has taken during her tenure as CW boss to think this is a SMART idea. Maybe she's a supplier; I don't know.

What do we need with more friggin' reality shows on a network that's exclusive to cartoons? I for one am tired of these doggone reality shows and the fake people on em; this is why I go days and weeks at a time without watching TV. It says volumes about the sad state of television when you have to go to YouTube to watch a scripted TV show in three parts or buy DVDs rather than turn on your TV to watch it.

Best thing for everyone to do is rant, write letters and blog about it. However if you really want the old CN back just stop watching Network altogether until it becomes CN. Let the ratings drop 50, 60, 70% so some boneheaded suit can get fired.

You won't get any flak from me because video games have contributed to this format's decadence.

I really hope that hand drawn animation doesn't die out though; there's just something special about its organic quality that has to be appreciated for generations to come. I can however, question the animated junk that is being spewed out currently & alienating kids from ever finding anything endearing about the medium.

That new Speed Racer digital cartoon comes to mind... :cmad:
