Cast the Marvel Universe - Part 1

When casting hit lower and lower. I mean there's been some horrible ones in the past 3-4 years.(Julia Roberts as Wonder Woman and Cher as Circe )

And this thread honestly feels like it;s gonna repeat itself of brain hurt.

Reasons like this is why I ask people to kind of explain their choice. Is it for a movie they'd like to see? Is it for a model for fan art to be based off of? Is it who the posters actually see as those characters?

Sometimes it could work if done as a challenge for sport which I think was MarvelComix85's and others intention. However, I can see the point that's being made. If this is constantly done it does get a bit taxing because actors are just being cast because they look like a character regardless if they can actually play them. But as was said, people could actually see those individuals as those characters or in a movie they'd like to see themselves. But sometimes it gets annoying seeing a bunch of nick, disney, and cw teens (Not a knock on anyone, if that's your thing that's your thing).

Every poster might not have a knock out solid cast that gets a 100% approval, but it's most likely who the poster sees as the character. Everyone can cast someone that another might hate, it happens. Some won't admit it, but there are castings that not everyone agrees with. But if it's bad, so what? Just keep doing kick ass castings yourselves and let the others do their thing. Or why not get all the casting gods of the forums to make a how to casting thread? I wouldn't mind learning how to get good at something. Especially if the consensus thinks I need to. But if a person wants to cast on looks fine, that's basically what happens most of the time for movies anyway. Whoever owns their own computer and joins the forums should be able cast whoever and however they want so long as they don't cause trouble or are rude.

Majik, I also agree with what you said earlier in the thread about how it would be nice if people would do a small write-up as to WHY they chose a certain person. Sometimes a small explanation can make a completely random choice make tons of sense.

But, I didn't mean to cause any stir, especially since I haven't contributed in a while.

If one of you guys come up with perfect casting from my list, then I'll give you credit if I use it for my own casting.

Candice Swanepol is the hottest VS model out there. And her lips aren't blown out of proportion. Plus, look at that butt!

I was working on an Avengers cast where I was going to use Minka Kelly as Spider-Woman. I really don't know anything about the character outside of the current Avengers run/Secret Invasion. I didn't read New Avengers when she was in that, mostly because at that point, I was tired of Bendis using the same characters in every book (New Avengers, Secret War, guest spots in Daredevil every month) and claiming to be doing this big new Avengers book and only using like two actual Avengers.

My reasoning for picking Kelly for Spider-Woman was basically I have seen her on Friday Night Lights, so I know she is a capable actress, and mostly because she is the actress that I most want to see in that costume.

Mmm... Minka Kelly.

I don't know what her deal is, how good her acting caliber is, or whatnot. But I saw some interviews with her, and she is whip-smart a la Ginnifer Goodwin. Then there's Charlie's Angels coming out, so she's now knowledgable of action! So, the verdict's not clear-cut, but I'd like to become a fan.

I assume she's playing the Jessica Drew version of Spider-Woman, right?

Why all the all male models? I remember reading most of my comics and they drew the guys with pretty average looks. I mean sometimes they looked downright haggard. Most of the leading male actor greats used to have a certain amount of masculinity about them but nowadays it seems that if a guy isn't standing around pouting in some briefs with hair freshly showered he isn't shown.

I like some of the above picks but when everyone is models it's starts to look really fake. None of these guys have flaws. I mean you look at all the action greats and they have flaws

Clint Eastwood: Squinted and growled like he had an SOS pad in his throat
Arnold: Couldn't speak English and had an enormous head
Sly: Couldn't speak English and had that crooked lip thing
Bruce Willis: Looked like he worked in Radio Shack and was balding
Kurt Russel: looked like he was line worker down at local GM plant
Harrison Ford: Helll he was Han Solo in every movie and we loved it :P
Chuck Norris: could not act a bit and still was a success :P


I look around today and all the guys are umm... demannified (made word up but could not think of a better one).

There are some notable exceptions like McKidd and such but they are few.

Great cast there, Majik I was thinking for a young Storm and Colossus, maybe these choices could be suitable for the role if you think about it.

Nicholas Braun (23 years old, 6'4 1/2, Sky High)

Armie Hammer (6'5, The Social Network, Reaper, etc.)

Aaron Hill (6'5, 28 years old, Greek, CSI)

Colossus is tuff to cast. I wish we had a young Dolph Lungren around to play him.

Katerina Graham is a big NO. I think Halle was terrible choice i Storm as well. Storm needs to be a dominate charter. Halle and Katerina are girly girls. No knock on them but they have great sex appeal but no dominance. If I had a choice I think Nona Gaye would make a great Storm

3. They have mostly played the part either as another character in a different movie or actually played the character in an X-Men film like Taylor has.

Times change and what worked in the 70s/80s is a long shot to what works now. I get it, you missed the so-so/ugly looking guys of the past. I grew up on those actors too, but that's a job of an actor. They have to look a certain way and in the case of the listed actors above they had to look hot/attractive/sexy for those photos. So what if they get women to stare long and hard, why should that be a knock against them?

It's genetics lol. I could see your point if I fan-cast expendables 2, but it's the X-Men. They like many characters have been drawn many ways to do many things, and having sex appeal is one of them (Emma Frost, Angel, Gambit, Wolverine, Storm, Rogue, etc.). Just because someone is hot or good looking doesn't mean they can't be an action star or kick ass. All that matters is when they put on the costume they look the part and when the camera starts to roll they can act the part (Which I believe they can).

Not trying to be a jerk and bite your head off and stuff, I even agree with you to an extent. Besides, there are plenty of girly looking dudes out there that make these guys look like the cast of Predator (1987).

- I'm surprised the last name Michalka is foreign to you. AJ Michalka was in the movie Super 8, playing the bratty older sister to one of the child stars. Aly Michalka was on a CW series called Hellcats. I think Karolina Dean, the alien girl from Runaways, would be a solid fit since she looks like a pampered girl. Here's a shot of the sisters.

- I'm not familiar too much with Röhm's work besides Heroes. But I read that she's of German descent, so I think she might be good as Sin, the daughter of the Red Skull.
- Optimus_Prime_ made that suggestion. And what a suggestion that would be! I imagine him sounding like Soundwave from the movies.
- Jerry was born in New York, so that takes him playing Canuck superhero Guardian out of the equation. But Shocker is a resounding HELL YES!
- Szhor is tempting as Scarlet Witch. Her nationality would benefit to the gypsy origins of the character.
- Definitely down with Leighton as Silver Sable.
- The Kingpin's wife is named Vanessa Fisk. Though after In Plain Sight, casting Mary as Vanessa seems like larceny. I think Ms. Marvel might be in her range.
- I don't know Minka Kelly's nationality (IMDB sucks there!), so I can't be 100% certain if she'd be Silverclaw.
- Not bad with Piper as Tigra. My choice is Cerina Vincent.

Only problem I have with this pick is she seems very midwestern. Janet Van Dyne was very very New York cheek. I want to see someone able to bring this aspect out.

Well because he is Wonderman. That's like saying I don't see why HULK or Thor has to be huge with muscles.

I can go with pick but honestly I would rather have a no name actor for Kang and stick Bana's large salary into the movie rather then waste it on Kang.

Same as above. Why spend the millions on ROC when the executioner doesn't even speak? Executioner is a Henchman for the Enchantress. I say let's get someone cheap like Kane from WWE

I can't really think of actors right now who i think should have or should play comic book characters but some i didn't like...

Halle Berry as Storm.. honestly she was too white, not african enough and no attitude, leadership.

Ben Affleck as DD wasn't terrrible, unlike the movie, but I don't think the script gave him the chance to anything.

Hugh. J wolverine, too tall, not gruffy, too pretty, not stocky. But I do like him, just not my pick for wolverine.

Ryan Reynolds for GL.... come on. the dude was literally conceived to play DEADpool, and no one else.

Chris Evans as Cap. he was already Human torch, and he's just not a leader looking/acting/sounding guy. I seriously don't think i will like him as captain America.

Toby M. as spiderman.. nothing to say on him just don't like him as an actor.

Well because he is Wonderman. That's like saying I don't see why HULK or Thor has to be huge with muscles.

I rank Adrian Grenier experience playing an actor on Entourage higher than his size. "Well because he is Wonderman" could be repeated for any superhero, because frankly they are ALL drawn to look like bodybuilders. Wonder Man was one I always felt was immediate looks casted (for size) without much else consideration for the character. Grenier would have to put on size no doubt, it's a physical role, I just don't think he'd need to put on a massive amount of size to sell the role.

To be honest, Wonder Man's character isn't too interesting to waste a great actor on, and he mainly is the muscle man. Is there more to him than brawn? Yes, but not much to me personally. Adrian Grenier, an actor I like, is totally wrong for the role.
