Cast the Marvel Universe - Part 1

I never criticized your choice for Typhoid Mary by the way. I said that it was a great choice.
I know, it wasn't a point of disagreement, just explaining myself a little further.

It's just I think Typhoid Mary definitely shouldn't be just treated as a femme fatale because that's only half of her character. Mary was introduced into the comics as a very sweet and innocent girl who had a very dark, perverse side to her. Hence the uniform that looks somthing like a prostitute would wear.

Here is someone who agrees apparently

I made that photo for an old Daredevil fan cast I made at CBM.com... I think Zooey would be ideal for Typhoid Mary.

Guys, wouldn't Neil Patrick Harris be a really good choice for Iron Fist?

Well, I'll take a crack at some of the actors on that list, MarvelComix85...

Anna Torv as Emma Frost (a plus is that she actually looks alot like my primary choice Tricia Helfer too)
anna-torv-fringe09.jpg

Bonnie Wright as Wolfsbane (has the nationality and red hair at least)
Nickelodeon+Kids+Choice+Awards+UK+2008+4-DStsNrMH5l.jpg

Lena Heady as Victoria Hand (credit goes to another fancast I saw somewhere)
Lena-Headey.jpg

Evanna Lynch as Magik

Willa Holland as Kitty Pryde
willa-holland-5.jpg

That's all for now!

Well, I thought I'd never see you around these parts anymore, MK. Great choices, I might have to borrow Anna as Emma Frost for this X-Men cast I'm doing on **************. Nice shot of Evanna as Magik. And Willa Holland would make a pretty strong Kitty Pryde (SUP3R made that casting choice for his Ultimate Marvel fancast).

By the way, you should come back to **************, because I just posted up a brand new fancast for a Blade reboot. And I've got a Sailor Moon fancast coming up afterwards.

Thanks, MarvelComix! :)

In between a new job and my reinvigorated socal life, casting comic book characters has kinda taken a backseat to it all.

I am definitely working on other fancasts in the meanwhile. I'm actually working on a new cast for Axis Powers Hetalia, and hopefully, getting a Justice League cast too, haha.

Keeping on topic, a few others from the list...

Keith Carradine as J. Jonah Jameson
tn-500_carradinewm158008.jpg

Brie Larson as Dazzler
Brie%20Larson%20image%20(2).jpg

That's all I can think of for now.

I was thinking I wasn't the other one who got a Dazzler-ish vibe from Larson in Scott Pilgram vs the World. Not that close physically or personality-wise, but just the blonde with attitude vibe and the fact she is a performer.

I think I've officially just given up on this thread.

I'll check in from time to time because threads like these do remind me of actors, but I'm just going to ignore whatever roles they're suggested for.

Wow, nice updates there. I'll be looking forward to Axis Powers Hetallia and Justice League. Think about doing another X-Men cast one day, because I'd like to see if you made any interesting casting changes. I really enjoyed that you chose Paul Wesley as Quicksilver, especially since I saw him in an episode of The O.C. where he reminded me of the character. So, to that, I raise a glass.

On an interesting note, Robert Carradine actually voiced J. Jonah Jameson in the 2003 Spider-Man cartoon series. And I think hugekent took the words out my mouth in regards to Brie as Dazzler, but I've thought of Holly Valance and Aly Michalka as the character.

I think I've officially just given up on this thread.

Okay, how about this? Would you cast all the principle characters of Astonishing X-Men?

Steven Seagull? Wouldn't he be better for someone like, I don't know, Angel?

Thanks, MarvelComix! :)

Brie Larson as Dazzler

Marvel should definitely make a Dazzler film! But it needs a great soundtrack. That's very rare these days. Also it shouldn't be an action movie. It needs to be a tragedy of how Allison loses her pop star life after she's outed as a mutant.

When I first saw that photo I thought it was Scarlet from the Bendis series...

I think the standard response is to sh** all over this idea, but it has potential, especially since superhero movies seem to appeal mostly to boys and fall comfortably in the 'summer blockbuster genre'. There were a lot of comics like Dazzler and the Firestar mini-series that had good storylines for rom-coms, which neither Marvel nor the production offices who bought properties has tried. I wouldn't mind seeing a character go onscreen who covered a different genre, like horror, romantic comedy or [regular?] comedy. There is no reason for them to pigeonhole themselves into one kind of character.

I don't want Dazzler to be a romance story. I want it to still be a dramatic movie about prejudice, but also about how a celebrity struggles to keep her privacy. Allison wanted to entertain people. I think it's worth exploring what she wanted versus her being labelled a mutant.

Yeah, I can't see this working. I'd be hard pressed to get all mushy about the plight of a pop star who just wanted to be left alone.

And yet people are so fascinated with celebrities' lives, waiting to tear them down. There have been films about celebrities who struggle with success. I even remember an old movie about an actress who hid the fact her mother wasn't white but Indian.

Yeah so what? Sure there are actresses for whom we feel sorry, but Dazzler just doesn't scream "dramatic drama about all her dramatic problems". She's a super-powered and exceptionally rich celebrity diva, and generally a fun character too. Allison Blaire has never really been that dramatic, but I feel like her partnership with Longshot and the Mojoverse could be enough to carry some sort of film. If you want a story of hardship I'd pick someone like Dakota North who is a little easier to ground in reality.

In case anyone's wondering, I posted a fancast for a Blade reboot @ **************. Click here to check it out.

And here's my cast:

Michael Jai White as Blade (Eric Brooks)
Well, what can I tell you? He's the fan favorite. I once had him as Luke Cage in my New Avengers and Marvel Knights fancasts, but in the latter, DDD hammered me that Mikey wasn't tall enough and suggested I go with Henry Simmons. Then there's the fact that Idris Elba is campaigning for the role. So, to honor everyone's best intent, I decided to go along with the group and cast him as Blade. But it is for the best, because he has the voice, height, and black belts in 7 styles of martial arts.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/BLADE-MJW.jpg

Morgan Freeman as Jamal Afari
With Christopher Nolan's Batman film franchise coming to an end, I guess it's time for their principle cast members to find new work. In terms of Morgan Freeman, he'd be perfect as the man who Blade rescues and, in return, offers to help him.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/JA-MF.jpg

Malcolm McDowell as Quincy Harker
If you disagree with this, you have no taste in movies. Malcolm's career goes back to the days of A Clockwork Orange, and since then, he has played various characters like the eerie, yet sympathetic Sam Loomis in the 'Halloween' remakes, Principal Gibbons in the Emma Stone smash 'Easy A', and many more. His wisdom and sympathetic approach to characters would be perfect for the leader of a squad of vampire hunters.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/QH-MM.jpg

Ethan Hawke as Frank Drake
I hear Ryan Phillipe is popular for this role, but I have him for Angel in my upcoming 'X-Men 2' fancast (see 'The Lincoln Lawyer'). Meanwhile, the best choice to play someone on the road to redemption is an actor who's practically played characters like this his whole career, Ethan Hawke. Proof: 'Assault on Precinct 13', 'Brooklyn's Finest', and 'Daybreakers' (this united him with the Spierig brothers; joy!)
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/FD-EH.jpg

Maggie Grace as Rachel Van Helsing
Some of you may recognize her as my choice for Sharon Carter back when I did my 'Secret Avengers' cast early this year. However, since Amanda Righetti is now playing the Ultimate version (the one with red hair), now I need to give her a new role. This one, little did I know that MrMurdockk used her already. But Maggie not only looks like the spitting image of Abraham Van Helsing's granddaughter, but I think she'd be capable of playing an intelligent role for the first time.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/RVH-MG.jpg

Damian Lewis as Hannibal King
I know people want him as Banshee, i.e. DDD himself, but I've got someone else in mind. Damian Lewis, to me, looks like the spitting image of Hannibal King. And unlike Ryan Reynolds, he'll be capable of playing it straight rather than a goofball in 'Blade: Trinity'. It doesn't hurt also that Lewis looks like a vampire.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/HK-DL.jpg

Abhishek Bachchan as Taj Nital
I lack knowledge of the character. Therefore, I relied on teabag's 'Tomb of Dracula' fancast to find this actor. He's got an excellent build, and has a great resume in Bollywood movies.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/TN-AB.jpg

Eva Green as Lilith
I think Eva Green deserves a better role than Scarlet Witch, and I've got a pick for the character that'll cause you to stain your pants at level red. I've seen that steamy sex scene from 'Camelot' that she was in, and she was pretty damn intense during that. And with that presence, she'd be excellent as the vengeful daughter of Dracula.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/LILITH-EG.jpg

Ian McShane as Dracula
Dominic Purcell's portrayal of Dracula in 'Blade: Trinity' was a wet blanket. And it's sad, since his work in 'Prison Break' was surprisingly good. I can see why people want him to play roles like Scorpion for a new 'Spider-Man' movie. Well, for the new 'Blade' movie universe, I chose someone who can bring menace and charisma to the character of the mythical legend. Watch Ian's movies that he's been in: 'Kung-Fu Panda' as Tai Lung, 'Pirates of the Carribean: On Strange Tides' as Blackbeard, 'Shrek the Third' as Captain Hook... I could go on.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/DRACULA-IM.jpg

Tobin Bell as Deacon Frost
Now, I'll be upfront and say that Stephen Dorff's portrayal of Deacon in the first 'Blade' movie was really good. And he made an excellent foil that the character has been the whole time. However, for the reboot, I'd like to see someone who looks aged like the character, and who better than the guy who brought Jigsaw to life in the 'Saw' movies. Tobin has that very creepy voice, but on the whole, he can play intense and intelligent villains. For the film, I see Deacon Frost as someone who aligns with Dracula to even the playing field between him and Blade.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/DF-TB.jpg

Ehh, I'm still rooting for Eva as Scarlet Witch, since she's definitely not scared to show off a more intense, mentally unstable side. And honestly, Wanda deserves better than some generic, cookie-cutter eye candy "actress."
