CBS is Bringing MacGyver Back to Television

even Hawaii 5O kept the damn theme even tho it was a shorter version of it at least it was the same sounding. I remember when before H5O came out they relased the theme and people did not like it and they redid it and it was a V A S T improvement. maybe they will realize that that theme blows and they will change it (not bloody likely but one can hope).

That new theme music sounds so generic and unmemorable. Why substitute a catchy theme for a forgettable one? It wasn't just the opening bars of MacGyver which people remember but more the main melody, which wasn't even included in this. If they wanted to use this new music, just use it in the background of some episodes or at the end

And Hawaii Five-0 originally had a different orchestration but fans hated it, so they rerecorded it to sound more like the original, albeit 30 seconds shorter. It's too late now though to change the theme for MacGyver since it airs tomorrow night.

If this show is made by the same people as Hawaii Five-0, then they made the same mistake with MacGyver that they made the first time round with H50 in allowing the composers to alter the theme. Stick to the original.

Ok the pilot was actually quiet enjoyable, I do hope they tone it down with the voice overs though

That wasn't a bad premiere. I wonder if Nicki's mother's name will have [blackout]Murdoc[/blackout] in it.

Mac also seems to handle himself very well in combat

I was skeptical when I heard of this show, but I set my DVR and recorded it anyway (I work weekday nights) and watched it when I get home, I kinda liked it, the new guy does a darn good job, and the dude from CSI was great as always. and I liked that Tracy from Revolution was in it as well as Vinnie Jones (you cannot go wrong with Vinnie Jones in any series/film period). I will be watching this from now on, good job CBS.

NOW, if only they could bring back the classic theme I would give it a 9/9.5 but right now it is a strong 8.

I thought it was just average. Nothing special. The classic theme was also sorely missing.

I find George Eads boring to watch. It still feels like I'm watching CSI at times. They should have found someone else.

Lucas Till was ok. I don't think they'll stop with the voiceovers. That was part of the original series. I don't think they need to keep labelling every element that he's using. That is unnecessary and feels too dumbed down. The original didn't need that. Do they need to spell out it's a cloned fingerprint, for example? We can see it's that.

Burn Notice had better voiceover explanations and was more inventive.

It’s a credit to the original show that “MacGyver” is now a verb (:cwink:) and that the character is firmly entrenched within pop culture. But in terms of actual quality, the series (as I recall) was fairly mediocre - at best: formulaic, lighthearted action/adventure.

And this reboot seems about the same. Were folks expecting/hoping for a dramatic reimagining akin to (e.g.) Moore’s Battlestar Galactica?

I hope there will be a Simpsons Episode about Selma and Patty watching it and their reaction :hmr:

I never saw the original MacGuyver show. I thought this was average and like Dark Raven said, nothing special.

I saw eps here and there back in the day but was never a huge fan of the show, my aunt and my babysitter at the time was a huge fan of the show. I may start watching the old show on netflix.

I was just hoping the explanations would be more like Burn Notice, which is a modern show that did the classic MacGyver-like voiceovers well, explaining the whole process of what he was doing or how to put things together. I don't like them having to label everything here and moving past the need for exposition. Burn Notice felt educational and made you feel smarter.

I thought it was ok, did enough to at least make me want to check out the 2nd ep. I like Sandrine Holt and I thought Till had the likability required for Mac, even if he is really young looking for a super agent. The opening of the ep was my favourite part, it reminded me of the opening of True Lies.

Here's a video which shows some of the better aspects of the season premiere:

Rerun of the pilot came on last night around 9:30. Fell asleep watching it around 10, but it was passable.

Amy Ackers is going to be in the next episode, so I'll continue watching.

This doesn't seem very interesting. And his improvisations don't seem very inventive. He almost feels a bit redundant at times.

The 2nd episode was a bit boring. I still don't like the big word labels they stick over everything and the lack of the theme tune is still noticeable.

I'm not sure what they're so afraid of about using the original theme in full. It would probably please a lot more people than it would put off with its supposed cheesiness. The level of positivity about the reboot might shoot up if the next episode replaced the new theme with a sort of modernized rendition of the old theme, accompanied by clips of the previous episodes edited in the style of the original intro and that mock up from before the show premiered.

This might sound kind of cynical, but it seems to me that people are just about as easily pleased as they are disappointed. On one hand, people were condemning Ghostbusters after hearing that it would have an all-female team, while on the other, people were praising Iron Man based on a brief teaser of Iron Man flying alongside jets.

They could have utilized Amy Acker better IMO.

So I watched the newest episode because of Amy Acker. Yeah, this show is pretty awful imo.

I know his screen time totals about 5 minutes over the 2 episodes, top. But can they kill off his roommate? Hearing him talk is irritating as ****.
