Chadwick Boseman dies at 43

It's been a while since I've posted on here, but after seeing this news, I wanted to come here and pay my respects.

First off, Chadwick's death is very personal for me. My mother passed from colon cancer although she was 62. This is a disease we have made so much progress on since my mom passed 20 years ago, yet we still have far, far to go. In general terms the best weapon against colon cancer is screening. Normally for men and woman that starts at 50 but for those like me with a family history it starts at 40 and screening every 5 years instead of 10. For Chadwick, any cancerous polyps under 40 are usually much more agressive, and likely Chadwick had one or more genetic factors that caused him to be diagnosed so early. Needless to say, I implore all of you to get screened, and if you have a family history talk to a gastroenterologist for your best treatment.

Secondly, this is a gut punch. Chadwick was T'Challa and it will be difficult for me to see anyone else in that role. It is even more heart wrenching when you learn that Chadwick was fighting this disease the whole time he was portraying this character.

I am a suburban white guy, but for millions of Americans and people of color around the world Chadwick's portrayal was a symbol of hope. At this time especially in the United States, we are showing how far we still need to go. Black Panther was about more than just a superhero film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was about showing to the world that no matter who you are, where you come from, or what you look like we all have value, and that we must do whatever we can to heal the barriers between us.

To me Chadwick's performance can really only be compared to Christopher Reeve in terms of impact. While Superman was much more of a household name than Black Panther, both actors embodied the character and understood the cultural importance of what they were doing. It was clear from all the red carpet events and the Comic con appearances, knowning what we do about what Chadwick must have been suffering with, it shows his professionalism, his wisdom in understanding the importance of what he did and the dedication. The struggle of the workout routines he was doing to stay in shape for the character while at the same time likely struggling to keep weight on through countless surgeries and chemotherapy treatments.

I can't express enough gratitude to what Chadwick has meant to me as a fan before I knew any of this, but it has expanded 10 fold.

To Chadwick's friends and family, my deepest prayers and sympathies.

RIP Chadwick Boseman!
Yibambe!
Wakanda Forever!

I never even knew he had cancer, not that it's something people generally advertise, so I suppose it's no surprise that he kept it out of the press; that or I just overlooked the report?

Needless to say, this news was a shock to the system when I woke up just a few minutes ago only to see the flood or RIP posts for him on Instagram.

Didn't know him, obviously, but he seemed like a decent, grounded guy. RIP.

This is just shocking and sad. Chadwick Boseman played a great Black Panther and played a great Jackie Robinson and to find out that he died on Jackie Robinson day in baseball is just so sad. We lost a great actor once again way before his time. My heart goes out to the family and his friends we lost a legend today. RIP Chadwick Boseman you will be missed Wakanda Forever.

This man underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and went through a huge amount of pain, stress and fear... and got up every day, went onto a film set, and acted in a series of physical movies. I can’t get my head around how he managed to do that. For FOUR YEARS.

RIP.

Tragic. The role of Black Panther was always going to be a very tough one, but he brought a quiet dignity, strength and toughness to it that made him impossible not to like.

He must have been a man of great courage and inner strength as he would have been sick while making some of the MCU films, which would have been so physically demanding.

Hope you've found a better world CB, and a rest free from illness and pain. Much love to your family.

Loved him as Jackie Robinson in 42...loved him in Get On Up as James Brown but for me I loved him as T'Challa/Black Panther in Civil War, Black Panther, Infinity War and Endgame...I wonder what happens to the BP character or the franchise in general? Do they recast?

Very shocking and sad, he was such a talented actor and wonderful person. RIP.

I just wanted to second this. I had my first colonoscopy three weeks ago. It's nothing to be afraid of. The prep is bothersome but it's only for one day and then it's over. If you're due for one, don't put it off. You might find out that you saved your life.

Should they recast T'Challa/Black Panther and a new actor steps into the role picking up from where Chadwick left off or do they kill off the character? Should they make Shuri the new Panther of Wakanda and the new Queen of Wakanda?
