Apocalypse Channing Tatum As Gambit?

With Jackman retiring Logan soon, Fox needs a new focal point of the X-Men. Guess Gambit is the heir apparent.

Hmm I'm not really sure if Gambit can replace Wolverine, but we'll see.

First off I love Keanu Reeves, he's my first movie star crush and I don't think he is a quarter as bad as people say he is. Loved him in The Matrix and Speed.
With all due respect, I just don't understand how you can be a fan of Keanu Reeves and hate Taylor Kitsch for being wooden. Keanu Reeves is probably one of THE worst actors in Hollywood. He's only found success because the movies he starred in had excellent plots like the ones you mentioned. Speed and The Matrix imho were good in spite of him, not because of him. Channing Tatum is basically in the same boat. But I respect your opinion.
Isn't this the point where people make manips?
I know, right? I suspect part of the reason why they aren't coming is because people aren't sold on the casting choice. I mean, I would rather not have Gambit in the movies than have him be played by Channing Tatum. And I say this as THE biggest Gambit fangirl you will ever meet. But whatever.

Well I would say his woodenness worked for Neo and it fit the character perfectly I couldn't imagine how different it would have been had Will Smith been in the role as was planned, Keanu is Neo.

Keanu Reeves, wooden or not, is not a bad actor. In fact, he's an excellent technical actor. He's also considered one of the hardest working actors in Hollywood by pretty much anyone who has worked with him.

I'd say give Jupiter Ascending a chance before ostracizing Tatum completely. That movie looks pretty good and it would seem to be a more accurate representation of his current acting prowess than 21 Jump St.

I'm not even interested in watching Jupiter Ascending/22 Jump Street. But I'm okay with this casting.

His woodenness doesn't bother anyone in the film because it's pretty unimportant. The Matrix is all about plot rather than acting - hence my assertion that he picks plot-driven movies.

How can someone who is wooden not be a bad actor? And hard work is fine and dandy, but it does not a talented actor make.

All the pieces do seem to point to that. They cast a big actor as a very popular character. And lets not forget that Tatum always plays the leading man in his movies. They're already giving him the Wolverine treatment with a solo film after Apocalypse, which makes me think his role in Apocalypse will be significant. In a lot of the X-Men films Wolverine always gets to play hero at the end. I'm willing to bet it might be a Wolverine/Gambit team up that saves the day. I'm still not sold on Tatum as Gambit but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for right now. He's one of those actors that I've warmed up to over the years.

I remember when Jackman was doing Wolverine Origins, he called Gambit a mini Wolverine. And I believe the reason given why he wasn't in some of the other films was because they thought he would take away from Wolverine. Though I could be wrong on that since it's been years since those interviews.

I don't expect them to "retire" Wolverine with Jackman at least not long term. But perhaps a couple of films without the character until TPTB decide what to do with him.

ugh!! I really wanna see him with Rogue! Channing is sexy enough that the chemistry between him and Anna would be fire! I've always felt like the relationship with her and Iceman was forced and a tad bit boring. if they wanted to use a 3rd wheel to cause friction between the two is should have not been Kitty but Gambit instead and that way we would've gotten him in Days of Future Past albeit a smaller role, but Cajun would've been kickin Sentinel a$$!!!

I just want to see him being flirtatious with Jean and Storm and seeing there friendship develop in this prequel

While they might be setting Gambit up as a Wolvie replacement in terms of having a shady anti-hero, I don't think he's meant to be the new face of the franchise. The studio seems interested in exploring other avenues-- there probably won't be a singular focal point representing the X-Men from here on out, because that would be somewhat limiting. He might be a big character, sure-- but not on the level of Jackman's Wolverine.

Which is why they cast Tatum. They're probably going to make him as big as Jackmans Wolverine. Of course he's not as big of a character. He was in one movie that isn't very good. Played by someone else.

I meant that he might be a big character in whatever future films he might show up in. Wasn't referring to his past incarnations or anything.

Tatum´s too bulky for the role.

Physically, Kitsch is way better suited for the role.

And actually he didn´t act that bad in XM:OW. The movie lacked direction and production, but wasn´t his fault either.

I thought Kitsch was one of the few highlights of the movie.
I think Tatum will be fine, though. Both in terms of acting and in looks.
He may be a bit bulky for Gambit, but I don't think it's a problem.

From Wikipedia:

"There were many new popular additions to the X-Men including Cable, Bishop and Gambit—who became one of the most popular X-Men (rivaling even Wolverine in size of fanbase)."

If someone was to ask me who the second most popular X-Man was I would say Gambit.

So, I believe having Gambit as the next face makes sense, if they don't want to recast and continue with Wolverine.

At the same time, one of the things that made him so good was that there was always this underlying level of mistrust in him, and moreso his relationship with Rogue. If they go with Gambit, they need to somehow incorporate that, but it all depends on the storyline.

i liked Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. he was just in a bad movie. that said, they wouldn't have cast Tatum if they didn't think they could physically mold him into the character. they know just how important visuals are nowadays. by the time they are ready to market this stuff, Tatum will be believable as Gambit. everyone will be talking about how much he looks like he stepped out of the comic book. it's just hard to picture right now; because Tatum is at his chunkiest. but he'll loose some weight, gain some lean muscle, grow his hair out (or wear a wig), and get some red contacts (unless they just CGI it). Omar Sy didn't particularly scream "Bishop" to me; prior to seeing him in costume.

I think it's funny people keep bringing up Kitsch. Fact is Kitsch took a huge hit to his leading man status when mega budgeted John Carter and Battleship flopped and Savages brought in mediocre numbers. No it's technically not his "fault" and he could easily make a comeback (Lone Survivor was a hit and it goes on his record but people barely noticed he was in that Marky Mark film). Fox are not going to put potential spin-off on his shoulders, period. You don't have to like Tatum but he's doing great right now and you can easily see why Fox would want him over Kitsch.

I've never bothered to read the Gambit solo run of comics , what would be the story for the spinoff film?

I would assume it would be a heist film on the Thieves Guild in Louisiana, and mostly focus on his gal Bella Donna who comes from the rival Assassins guild.

Basically Romeo and Juliet with thieves and Assassins.

I think you have far too much faith in big film studios. :p

I'm always puzzled when people bring this point up when others talk about Kitsch. Nobody has argued that Kitsch would be better than Tatum in terms of the box office. This is from a creative standpoint. They generally don't care if Tatum is box office gold right now. He is just NOT a good fit for Gambit to them. It's like someone remarking that they prefer oranges to bananas because they think the former tastes better and someone else countering by saying they should eat bananas instead because they are "a great source of potassium". Sure that's true, but what does that even have to do with what they were arguing?

Has Tatum ever had long hair in a movie?,I'm very mixed on him casted for this role but I am at least very curious what he at least looks like in the role..Assuming they give him the long black hair and trench coat
