The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 4: The Gathering Storm (Spoiler Discussion)

This episode was miles better than last week's, purely for the Slave 1 scenes alone and you know, well-directed action scenes in general.

Can't wait for next week. Potential Mando and other bounty hunters!

Question:

If they had shown the Mod Clinic/Shop where Boba got Fennec fixed; would you have been more accepting of the Mighty Cyborg Vespa Rangers?

Also shout out to the guy who got a Kano eye and the other who got a scouter attached their face.

Their coolness is over nine thousand.

I wonder if any of those extras were Rodriguez's kids.

For me its just their cheap look and design that puts me off, also none of them have really been any character development so nobody to really care about.

I LOVE the concept of Boba having a street level gang being his younger ears and eye's and being a biker gang makes total sense in terms of the show as well, its just their execution that failed for me on their first impression anyway.

Another meh episode, the Mando theme gave me chills though...

I like this show, (It's fine, not great) but them teasing that theme just makes me think how I would rather have Mando season 3 right now... and I don't know what was up with all the techno music.

The whole Slave 1 thing is really just a big non-story.
It is. Especially funny since so many of the people who pretend to care that much about it don't spell it Slave I as it's supposed to be. I guess that's what happens with the name of a ship that isn't mentioned very often in canon and not at all in live-action.

Good episode.

But I’m really at the point where I think they should have just told the story in chronological order with the first 2-3 eps being entirely flashback material. I get why they didn’t, but still.
100% agree. I like the material, some of it quite a bit. But I feel like the flashbacks have overwhelmed the current story, making it feel like it's being "held back". If they told the same story in order, we'd still be where we are, arguably in a more well paced manner.

Either way, I'm excited to see where we are going with the final 3. Should be fun.

I mean, the score playing the opening notes of the Mando theme when she said it was like a double-wink. A blink, if you will.
That was a neat moment, but it felt incomplete. This would have been the natural point for Shand to mention that she knows a team of mercenaries.

I’m expecting sooo many cameos next week :D:

Probably the best episode so far imo, we seem to finally have wrapped up the flashbacks with a Slave I heist and him partnering with Fennec, and the stage seems to finally have been set for things to start getting more intense in the show's present. Boba's probably kidding himself if he thinks none of those crime bosses are gonna screw him over for the Pyke Syndicate though.

That would've been too jarring after where we last saw Boba Fett in Mandalorian.

I think it's possible some of those gangsters might try to screw him over. At the very least, he's surrounding himself with competent allies in the event of such a thing. However, he should be coming up with backup plans for backup plans in case that happens.

Open the season with Boba on the throne, maybe him having a conversation with Fennec about what he wants as a crime lord, then after that opening scene cut into flashbacks for the rest of the episode and all of the following ones. You’d probably catch up to the modern day story by the end of Episode 3.

Their vision of Fett is while Fennec gets to take on the entire palace guard, Fett essentially derailed into taking on the droid equivalent of ...Robot-Ratso-Rizzo.

And apparently Fett (along with the audience), are all trying to forget that the once badass Boba Fett, was knocked out and robbed by a couple of Jawas.
lol.gif
The "once bad*** Boba Fett" who was originally 'killed' by being knocked into a hole by a blind dude with a stick...

Ok that was good. That was really good. Bummer about that third episode because if it had matched the quality of episodes 2 and 4, the momentum would've been consistent. Either way I'm very pleased.

I don't disagree with this from a big picture perspective when say we view the series as a whole, but on a week by week basis, had they done that I somehow feel the criticisms would change to the show wasting episodes with pure flashback, with no scenes in the present informing how the past has affected Boba in his operation.

Let's not even get into how the flashbacks so far are much stronger than the present day stuff which would've made the first 2 present day episodes (likely filled with Boba being in over his head and all the Mod gang stuff) robbing ALL momentum smack dab in the middle of the series.

I think no matter how you slice it, this show having lengthy flashbacks was always going to get criticisms from people who just want post-Mando crime stuff, but I think doing everything chronologically would feel better structurally.

And honestly, I feel like a lot of the present day stuff in the first two episodes could probably be cut down and condensed without having to transition back in time.

Yeah. As one who like to re-watch the episodes together after each new release, one thing that becomes apparent. A good chunk of the "present" content exist to frame the flashbacks. There could be a good deal of streamlining, beyond the obvious stuff with the tank.

Episode 1: The past up through the day he got his staff.
Episode 2: Everything through getting his ship back.
Episode 3: The entire present storyline.

Structurally, it would work a lot better, especially framing it around that moment of him sitting on the throne like you suggested.

Well, looks like we are finally done with the flashbacks. At least this time, the split in the episode felt like it made sense.

The mod shop scene was so over the top, so very different than what we have seen in Star Wars, and played so straight, I love it. **** it, I love it and the Vespa gang. Cyberpunk is canon in Star Wars now. Deal with it nerds.

The sarlaac scene was clearly just because someone wanted to do the actual sarlaac. Happy to see the beak still exists.

One thing I've enjoyed is that Robert Rodiguez clearly loves droids. We have been seeing a lot of different droids, a lot of bringing back classic droids. Seeing EV9-D-9 being demoted to kitchen duty with Chef Grevious was neat, and seeing the rat catcher make its way to live action was great. RIP Gonk droid.

The Black K scene was great. I really am happy with the actor they got for him. Once again, brilliant choice of using a Predator actor.

And now, we wait for the the build up to the finale.

Defintely think Bossk is coming in next week. I think that Krrsantan scene with the Trando's, and even the first scene of Boba taking tribute, was meant to clue the audience in about existing tensions between Wookiees and Trandoshans.

Still feel we get a Bane tease at the end of next episode too.
