Yeah, as an actor, you don't just outright bash your films. That's how you slowly become alienated. A (good) promotion is part of the job.
I remember when Chris Evans was doing press for Fantastic Four 2 and you could tell he really didn't want to be there and wasn't enthusiastic about the movie.
At least not while they are in theatres. Actors talk about their bad films all the time at a later date.
There are also times it is refreshing to see an actor state they didn't feel the movie they were in was good. If an actor can't put pride in their work on a film, they should be able to say as much. Tactfully of course. This idea that you should promote a bad film for publicity shouldn't be above honesty.
