Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" (July 21, 2017) - Part 2

Agreed. I think back during the TDK days Emma even said he was interested in tackling a western. Although, with his brother doing Westworld for the foreseeable future he may not want to step on his toes there.

I remain 100% convinced that Chris has some uncredited input into Westworld. There are certain things about that show that seem far more Chris than Jonah to me. I just kinda dig the idea of two brothers spitballing ideas about it on the sly :yay:

I used to think that him doing Bond was just a pipedream, but after listening to him on Josh Horowitz's podcast, it sounds like he's absolutely serious about it- knows his take on the material and everything but is just waiting for the right time.

I think you could be onto something with action though. I would love to see Nolan's version of a Die Hard or Speed type of high-concept, but reality-based action film with a suspense scenario.

Being a Nolan nerd from back when he was first announced as doing Batman, I've known for a long time that he's a huge fan of James Bond - as is right and proper for any British filmmaker :woot: It will happen at some point, of that I have no doubt. I am fascinated to see his take on Bond's psychology. The fragility of Bond's identity is perfect fodder for a Nolan analysis. I think he would produce the most cerebral and intelligent Bond film ever made. Also, Hans Zimmer scoring a Bond movie? :hmr:

A romantic comedy written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Let's go.

Not so sure we'll ever get that, but I can easily see him tackling a film with a heavy romantic emphasis. I'm thinking something like a 21st century Romancing The Stone. Nolan taking on a swashbuckling adventure type movie sounds marvellous.

...oh god, now I want a Chris Nolan Indiana Jones reboot.

Dunkirk was the absolute summit of Christopher Nolan on the things he is good at. Constructing elaborate plots that shuffle time and space, large scale set pieces, music as sound, sheer spectacle. Nolan doesn't get better than this.

For his future features, I want Nolan to focus on the things he is not so good at. I want him to make a protagonist that isn't a brooding male pining for a loved one. I want him to make a film with sexuality. I want him to make, or shall I say make again, dialogue heavy films that feature less obtrusive exposition. I think that's the way to move forward for him.

We have witnessed peak Nolan. Now I want a Nolan that when you say peak Nolan, doesn't mean a certain thing.

He ain't gonna do what he don't wanna though.

He also worked on Person of Interest on CBS. I never watched it but heard it was pretty decent.

Westworld is all Jonah Nolan and Lisa Joy. It shares a lot of the same things as Person of Interest, which Jonah was creator/co-showrunner. POI made it easy for me to pick out which Nolan wrote what in a lot of scenes in the Dark Knight Trilogy.

I couldn't really get into POI despite being a huge Michael Emerson fan, but I'll check out Westworld for sure. I've needed a new show to watch.

It's ridiculously good. Tessa Thompson is in it too.

POI has Michael Emerson's best work and it's just an amazing show.

Best picture material here folks. Nolan's way overdue, he changed superhero films, and now he's changing war films too.

While this is definitely worthy of a nomination, it will have to be a very weak awards season for it to win Best Picture. Time will tell. Cinematography and hopefully Best Score should be a lock though.

Best director is more important than Picture here.

Guys, Mia Khalifa hated Dunkirk. She said, and I modified it in the name of decency, that this movie engaged in more oral action than she did all through 2014.

Well that settles it. We have our Razzie frontrunner.

So, that Dunkirk film kicked a lot of ass.

It's been 5 years since I saw a Nolan film in IMAX. Said film was TDKR. Dunkirk was amazing. The minimal dialogue was on point and along with Zimmer's score, really upped the tension. No one does cross-cutting between different scenes like Nolan.

Dunkirk just might be my favorite film of the year thus far.

Glad you liked it Jack.

So I had some plans fall through tonight and am considering a solo movie outing. I still need and want to see Apes, but I am just feeling that itch for Dunkirk round 2. Ah, decisions, decisions...

BatLobsterRises, go see Dunkirk again, lol. After me and my buddy left the theater we immediately wanted to see it again.

"All it takes is a little....push."

*buys ticket*

I need to rewatch this again.
was the French soilder pretending to be English the one that drowned in the boat they were hiding in? He and the other English soldier looked so similar to me. :funny:

Yup.

I'm going to check this out again sometime this week.

Thanks to problems with the others accompanying me, I missed a bit at the opening, but what I did see today was electrifying, and one hell of an experience in IMAX. I'm going again tomorrow as, like I said, I missed the opening, and I'd like to take advantage of being temporarily a short distance from a 70mm screen. It's going to be a good watch at home still as it's an expertly made film, but this was an absolute treat seeing it in the format.
