The article speculates that Leterrier may have wanted to shoot the film in stereoscopic 3D (native 3D) like Cameron did with Avatar, rather than how Burton is converting Alice in Wonderland into 3D but there wasn't enough time to get it all ready so Warner Brothers may be rushing to convert this film into 3D.
