Yeah, why even have a plot?! Let's just have a two hour movie of random nameless characters kicking the sh** out of each other! In fact, f**k the dialogue altogether! All we need are the sounds of explosions and the screams of people dying!

You do know that that's why most people see movies, right? Character development, depth, etc. are only things that stuck-up movie buffs/geeks give a crap about. :woot:

It still looks like fun. I hope Sam Worthington doesn't bore me too much.

So if he sucks it up for you in this film, will that be the last nail in the coffin for you in regards to giving him chances?

I haven't seen this international trailer yet but hearing people say he still can't cover up his Aussie accent is humorous.

I'm waiting for a performance in a non action flick before I give up on him.

I think thats it's been established that he doesn't know what the hell he is doing regarding his accent. It sounds like his accent is wonky in the trailer but I honestly don't like judging it based on a trailer. Now if I had a clip...

It would be nice to see him in something like a drama or thriller of some kind.

He should go to an accent trainer, he could really use it.

Is it just me, or is hearing Liam Neeson as Zeus say "Release the Kraken" infinitely cooler than Davy Jones?

Maybe throw some planet of the apes in there... Jake wakes up as an Avatar, only to find that the Navi have embraced a technological civilized way of life and the humans are now enslaved and butchered by Navi. Jake finds a slave girl whom he falls in love with, Navi kill her, and Jake turns on his people again.

you can tell acting was something that he stumbled upon. which is true because he didn't get into acting until his 20s, when he was a carpenter. The Harrison Ford effect, but with Harrison Ford was awesome when he was young.

Actually, he didn't stumble into acting. I have no idea why he keeps saying that. He probably wants to project that bad-ass, don't care about acting vibe. He graduated from the most prestigious drama school in Australia(National Institute of Dramatic Art) and began working as an actor immediately after graduation. Before that, he went to a performing arts high school. So basically, he's been preparing for an acting career all his life. He's just not very good at it.

When did Mel Gibson lose his accent?

Well... he's actually American. He was born in New York, and he lived there till he was twelve. So he can probably pull a John Barrowman, who slips into a scottish accent whenever he's around scots.

He went to the John Curtin College of the Arts.

Bon Scott also went there, so it must be awesome. :woot:

This movie looks like a lot of fun, but I have yet to see the original.

Russel Crowe never got rid of his

But he can drop it when it's required. The only time I've heard him slip a little bit into his Aussie accent when he's not supposed to was in Gladiator. And even then it was rare. Crowe is usually very consistent with his accents.

I am sure Sam worthington being the star in the biggest movie ever is really worried about his accent slips. Not bad for a 'crap' actor. Just luck I suppose

Avatar wasn't the biggest movie ever because of him or because it was good.

If he plays his cards right Avatar will be the stepping stone to stardom but right now he's still not a star. Hell, he isn't getting "Leo played in Titantic" type of attention and his movie is going to be even bigger. Maybe thats because blue CGI creatures were the real stars or maybe thats because even the people who loved the film thought that he was lame.

Blah, don't wanna bring this up but, Tek, I think you're well...wrong. :o

Avatar was only as successful as it is because the 3D ticket sales. Worthington did nothing positive in the light of Avatar's success. It's all in the visuals.

The only movie that I can think of before Avatar that Worthington was in is Terminator: Salvation. And guess what? Walking in and DURING the movie people around me brought it up and said he SUCKED in that.

its hard to be a movie star in hollywood. a lot actors who are popular and have charisma can not get a good opening based on their name.

3D ticket prices don't account for the legs it's having or the amount of money it's making. My point will be proven when another movie with 3D ticket prices comes out and fails to have Avatar's staying power and fails to gross over 700mil domestically.

That being said we agree that Worthington didn't help or hurt the flick.

Zoe Saldana is getting more buzz for Avatar and she wasn't ever really shown, what does that tell you about Worthington's performance?

Even with Avatar on his resume I don't think Worthington goes anywhere in the long run if his post Avatar projects all fail like Salvation did.

I mean, where is Mark Hamil? He's a talented voice actor but the only live action thing he's done of note remains Star Wars.

Being A-list is a different thing now or days so I don't think that anybody expects every project that any actor plays in to be a huge hit. Johnny Depp is hardly consistant at the boxoffice but he is A-list, same with Brad Pitt. Clooney is A-list in name only in my opinion. He has far too many low grossers to be anything but that.

Same here. I've only seen bits and pieces of the original. The special fx's look as if they used lighting and smoke from an 80's disco. :woot:

If the remake comes out in 3-D, as I've heard, I'll be there on the opening weekend.

Worthington and Yelchin were the best things about it though. They both over shadowed Bale.

What was wrong with Worthington then? Sure he had a few accent slips, but that isn't something that bothers me too much. The rest of his performance was good. Like when he was chained up and the humans were treating him like some kind of freak, I actually felt for him.

He's totally not a 1 dimensional actor or anything like that...Not at all. Sam Worthington? Nahhhh....
