When? The first heavy CGI movies was the 2nd Terminator and Jurassic Park. The t-rex still looks better than most CGI in movies today.

I thought I was the only one on God's green earth that had this opinion.

Movies like Top Gun and Terminator had no CGI and looked fantastic.

It really is getting outta hand.

no, a lot of people that i know who aren't into geeky things have told me the samething about Jurassic Park.

seriously....

next they're gonna be doing 4D where you can smell the film... and then people are gonna say its as important as 3D:oldrazz:
Not necessarily targeted on 3D, but there is historical precedence for a wide backlash against any new film technology that is to be integrated into all feature films. Just look up at what people said on color and widescreen.

Might wanna check out that film again. The final scene looks terrible, as classic as it was. :o

Yes, but all those people had to do was sit there and get use to it over the years. I have to sit there uncomfortably with 3d glasses on my glasses to see the thing.

Wearing 3D glasses is something you'd have to get used to, is it not? You don't think people's perceptions of movies were seriously challenged when they saw a widescreen or full-color movie for the first time?

Hell, you have people here complaining about 60FPS versus the traditional 24FPS, and the only difference is the former makes motion smoother.

Yeah, and it's 25 years old.

Superman Returns, 2012, Spiderman 3, etc. are all very recent movies with the latest technology and still look almost as crappy as the scene you speak of.

Pretty much every big budget movie is going to be in 3D from now on. So yeah, you do. And it's a ****ing travesty.

They will continue to show big features on more than one screen at a time, and many theaters don't even have 3D capability, so no—you don't.

I'm lost as to what the point was. You're going to find terrible/excellent examples for either technologies.

Well, I already went with my discisions. No 3D months ago. And sooner or later just like how silent films, experimental films, and the old way Castle did things were phased out, 2d will be as well. Im just waiting till they have 3D without the glasses. It'll be awhile, but I can wait. Still a lot of movies from the last few years I haven't seen.

Yeah, NOW. In a couple years if all of these movies gets moneyz? I wouldn't bet on it.

We'll have flying cars if or when 2D is phased out. I really wouldn't worry about it. Theaters are lucky to even have a single 3D screen at this point.

And Im sure Buck your seeing it as nitpicking at this point, but it's $11 a ticket now. And for a student thats harsh, the theater here is against discounts that showing your id, will in fact make you pay more. Thankfully we have a theater on campus. Either $2 or free. Fantastic.

Yeah, it sucks that ticket prices keep going up. We do get a higher quality product though, production-wise, not always content.

Ugh, I don't know. The last few movies I paid full price for in theaters got worse as it went a long. Looking forward to Iron Man 2 though. And when my school gets Red Cliff. And Im waiting for when they get Clash, which shouldn't be to long.

Saw the film in 3D at a free screening tonight. Do NOT pay to see this movie in 3D! I can't stress that enough.

I was all for going to see the 3D version untill I came in here and stared reading. Now I'm leaning to the 2D side, I just want to read some more reviews before for I decide either way.

Thank god my job is carrying the 2D version. I don't need 3D. When it's great, it's GREAT (How to Train your Dragon's 3D was terrific), but I don't need it for this and hearing these flaws makes it easier to decide.

Well after just checking showtimes for this weekend the theater I go to isn't showing Clash in 3D. Which this really doesn't bother me because of what I've read so far.

NON-SPOILER REVIEW

I caught an advance critic screening of Clash of the Titans, and it was OK, but nothing super-fantastic. Some of the updated CGI monsters worked (the giant scorpions, Pegasus and the Kraken), but others didn't really grab me the way they did in the original (Calibos, with a new backstory is a badass fighter, but his design was boring, and Medusa was too pretty in the face most of the time and seemed kind of video-gamey to me). I think it will appeal to God of War fans, but it didn't make me forget all about the original.
Some of the more pointed observations in the movie about humans needing to worship their gods will no doubt cause some interesting discussions among religious folks, and there is a big change in the romance department for Perseus. Overall, there was some good and some bad. It's worth seeing for any fantasy fans, but don't expect anything mind-blowing.

rating 6/10

I'm getting this thread back on topic.

I saw the movie tonight and it looked TERRIBLE in 3D.

This basically is why the rushed 3D for 3D's sake is bad.

The only thing that looked truly 3D in the movie were the CG closing credits.
