The average movies of 2010 gain a new member for the ranks.

I was surprised to see Mads Mikkelsen in the cast. I hadn't bothered to look at the cast list, so had no idea he'd be in it and despite his absence from the trailers he wound up having one of the most prominent supporting roles. :wow: I didn't even recognise him under the hair and make up at first. :woot:

I'm getting this thread back on topic.

I saw the movie tonight and it looked TERRIBLE in 3D.

This basically is why the rushed 3D for 3D's sake is bad.

The only thing that looked truly 3D in the movie were the CG closing credits.

how was the 3d bad?

because alot of people said the alice 3d was bad and it looked no different than avatar, final destination, etc

im goin for 2d... even if the 3d was good... those glasses freakin darken the screen wayyy tooo much.. its disgusting. all the work that goes into color correcting the film goes in the trash.

Did you see it in 3D xwolverine2? Because I did.

I mean I just saw Captain EO again at Disney a couple weeks ago and that had actual convincing 3D more than this movie.

It looked bad because it just seemed to make the picture darker blurrier and hard to see. It didn't really seem to have any actual depth like I could reach out and touch it.

This is easily Leterrier's worst movie ever. I have some serious doubts about Leterrier now. He's definitely not the man to do Avengers.

There were plenty of places where there wasn't a significant discernible difference. Much of Alice was created in CGI, so the 3D for those elements were authentic.

you know there is not just 3D. you have many versions of 3D.

for example Up used a different uproach then Avatar how they set up the 2 cameras. Up used parallel cameras while Avatar set up the cameras like human eyes. where they are both under a small angel so that you can focus on a specific depth.

That is besides the point, which is that many of Alice's 3D elements aren't like the post-conversion process found in this film, for example. While it may not have been the same type of 3D found in Avatar, it was still genuine 3D.

well he said that it looked the same in Alice and FD. it didnt look the same beasuse how they used the 3D and how they had gimmick shots flying in the screen.

Ignoring the 3D, how was the film?

You of all people know that the term "gimmick " shot doesn't apply to this movie. It was filmed in 2-d and it was never meant as a 3-d release. Lots of directors film shots in 2-d with stuff flying towards the viewer. Doesn't make it gimmicky unless they always had 3-d in their mind. Which isn't the case with COTT

LL can hold no blame for the crap 3D of this. It is SOLELY the studio trying to cash in on the popularity of 3D.

If this film was meant for 3D from the outset, then it would of obviously been better 3D.

i am talking about ALice and Final Destination.

That bad, huh? Could you go into a bit of detail?

As many have already stated, the issue in converting a film like Alice in Wonderland to 3D post-production is that so many of the elements in that film were already CG, you can get away with converting those renders after the fact (mind you, there are still people that didn't like the 3D in that film).

With Clash, the field of depth is nowhere as distinct as it could have been, because the film wasn't shot with the special cameras that are used for live-action 3D. And it actually hurts the CG elements of the film, because the conversion process separates them from what was shot live. Since the CG elements can stand out more than the live action elements, the CGI doesn't blend with the live action footage as well as it should. This is especially noticeable when [blackout]the flying demons unleashed by Hades chase after Perseus on the Pegasus through Argos once the Krakken is released.[/blackout] To say nothing of the fact that they have to compensate for the camera work, which at times can be a little chaotic.

Aside from that though, I really did enjoy the film in general. It's nothing groundbreaking, but the action scenes were strong, especially the fight with the Scorpiox, the acting was solid across the board (Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson as Hades and Zeus = AWESOME!), I had a good time, all things considered. Both female leads left something to be desired, though. Gemma Arterton was pretty much British Exposition (and nobody expects the British Exposition! :woot:) and Alexa Davalos is pretty much just there. There isn't nearly enough time devoted to her character.

Worthington was more of the same that he was in the other two movies. This is works a little better in his favor because it is action filled and he's pretty good at that but his more romantic scenes are not good at all. The guy just needs to relax a bit and emote a little more when it comes time for the tender scenes and he could become a good actor. Oh yeah I thought the movie was a solid 8 outta 10. Liam Neeson and Ralph Finnes are both fantastic, the action starts out great and keeps improving upon itself with every set piece. All the creatures looked really good especially Pegasus, the scorpions, and the Kraken. Definitely worth seeing in theatres but I guess 2D is the better option from the way it sounds.

Cool. I've said it before but i think Worthington should try some more comedic/wise cracking roles. He seems like a naturally sparky/funny kind of guy, could work well for him on screen instead of the more by the book leader/stoic types.

Ooof, this movie is at 14% on RT at the moment, I hope critics are actually reviewing the movie and not the 3D.

Worthington's still got a ways to go in general, but as an action star, he's aces. Watching this film, you could easily see him as Captain America, for example. But dammit if that man can't hold back his accent. He needs to get pointers from Hugh Jackman, 'cause as thick as that man's accent is, he's always been able to do a solid American accent.

Even if Marvel were casting non-American actor for the role of Capt. America, Worthington would never get the role because he just can't shed his Australian accent. There are other Australian actors who can do a far better job with the American accent than he does.

Some of the more pointed observations in the movie about humans needing to worship their gods will no doubt cause some interesting discussions among religious folks, and there is a big change in the romance department for Perseus. Overall, there was some good and some bad. It's worth seeing for any fantasy fans, but don't expect anything mind-blowing.

rating 7/10

What, did they make him gay or is it just not with the girl from the 1st film?

LOL -- no, he's not gay...

Perseus falls in love with the immortal woman Io (played by Gemma Arterson) who helps him along on his quest. Princess Andromeda stays behind in the city for the whole film, and while Perseus saves her from the Kraken of course, they don't end up together.

so is the 3d real bad in this? My friends want to go this weekend to see it in 3D but im telling them Ive heard bad things about the 3D and I dont want to plunk down $15 a ticket to see crappy 3D when I can have a better time in 2D ya know.

Definitely save your money and just see the 2D version. There are maybe three or four scenes in 3D that actually worked, but none of them were action scenes.
