Logan Cliff Martinez to Score James Mangold’s Logan

I thought so too! I did really love the score, very different and outside the box for someone as generic as Beltrami. I've heard before that he can do incredible things if pushed enough, and that obviously is true here. Beautiful music for sure.

Beltrami isn't generic.
Even his soundtrack for A Good Day to Die Hard was awesome... and we're talking about a pretty mediocre entry in the franchise. And some of his best cues weren't even used in the movie.

Beltrami's very good at playing around in different styles and methods of orchestration, it's just sometimes his thematic/melodic material is a little underwhelming. His scores do their job when attached to the movie, but played on album can seem aimless and forgettable.

My favorite score of his is still 3:10 to Yuma. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is great, too. I, Robot, Knowing, The Wolverine, Snowpiercer and Fantastic Four all of their moments, too, but are somewhat uneven.

The best part of Logan's score is the new leitmotif in Loco Logan. But I only remember that showing up once late in the third act and then in the credits.

This score has a very 28 days later vibe to me. Just the slow build up in Main Titles really hits that home.

my favorite tracks are

"Don't Be What They Made You" - You know why
"Main Titles"
"Beyond The Hills" - features cues from The Wolverine theme
"Forest Fight" - I love this for that particular sprinting moment in the film. It's an adrenaline rush.

28 Days Later is also what it reminded me of closer to the end, especially the fights in the forest.
